OCAD Methods

OCAD has a number of pre-defined text objects.

A text object is a rotatable symbol, it can be rotated with the direction tool and will rotate with the map if the “include symbols” box is checked when the map is turned.

Drawing Considerations

The initial appearance of the map is made or spoilt by the positioning, colour and size of the Text objects. Take time and care with your text. Do not cram all spaces with text, white space is vital for visual balance.

OCAD does not allow easy text editing, use the tips on text throughout this file to make life easier. More tips can be found with text topics such as Legend and the OCAD Help File.

If you use an unusual font, you will need to check with the printer that the computer bureau also has that font, as OCAD only sends the summary details of the font and the text with the EPS files, not the actual font file.

If you linked here by clicking on the white text in the lake a method of making this text is to define a new text symbol, with the colour set to knockout the blue, by having a "-1" in the blue column.
