Specifications

503 Minor road

Road 3 - 5m wide. The space between the black lines must be filled with brown (50%).

Colour: black and brown 50% (60 lines/cm).

Black line widths 0.18mm

Spacing between lines 0.3mm

ISOM 1990 Definition

As ISOM 2000 but line width was 0.125mm and brown tone at 50% only.

The overall width is 0.65mm which is 9.75m on the ground

OCAD Methods

Defined as double line symbol 503.0, uses special road colours to allow automatic knocking out of borderlines by the fill. This allows easy digitising of junctions and roundabouts.

The default fill colour is defined as a 50% brown tone (street infill colour number 15), but will also knock out the normal, lower, browns including contours.

Can be drawn with any drawing tool, but bézier mode is the most efficient. Do not allow bézier handles to overlap or very strange effects occur!

Drawing Considerations

This is a symbol, not a scale representation of a road, so some adjustment of neighbouring features may be needed.

The overall width is 0.66mm which is 9.9m on the ground.

The new specifications for motorways and major roads allows the road edges to be replaced with walls or fences; there is no similar allowance for this symbol. Clarification will be sought as to whether this is an omission.

Pictorial Descriptions

- BOF Rules, Appendix One

Road: a metalled/asphalt surfaced or dirt road, suitable for vehicles in all weathers.

Small lengths can be widened by:

Putting a section of road over another:-

Parking areas can be a problem, as the default brown does not knockout the road edge.

Either redefine the parking colour to the street infill colour, or use the above tip with different shapes.
