A TALE OF TWO CAMPS
September - November 2003
Mansfield Museum and Art Gallery, Leeming Street, Mansfield.
CLIPSTONE CAMP 1915-1920
This was a military training camp where thousands of soldiers and some WAAC's trained during the First World War.
At the end of the war it became a demobilisation Centre
FOREST TOWN HOSTEL 1944-1959
The Hostel built for Bevin Boys, was additionally used for Epileptic Evacuees (Children from Lingfield, Surrey),
It became the first Police Training Centre after WW2;
then opened for European Volunteers & Refugees of many nationalities.
