DEER PARK ROAD

Deer Park Road is in the area of the medieval deer park built by Bishop William Ralegh in 1250 after whom Ralegh Crescent is named. Park Farm is on the site of the hunting lodge and is another Witney farm to succumb to swathes of modern housing. During the Second World War 60 acres were requisitioned for use as Witney Aerodrome, another 88 acres became the Deer Park Road development and the balance of 127 acres were situated between Burford Road and the river Windrush.
Along with the farmhouse there was a dairy, a good selection of barns, cow sheds etc and a pair of cottages. The main house can be still be found in the midst of new housing, right, and the cottages are on Tower Hill, below. Thanks to Mark & Debbie Blakeley for allowing this picture to be taken from their front garden. Malcolm Henderson.

Park Farm Cottages

The pair of cottages are of similar design to the ones on Curbridge road that belonged to Burwell Farm. Malcolm Henderson.
