This Lenco was inspired to a certain degree by the VPI
MKIII plinth. I think it is more elegant, due to the
chamfered black-piano-finished bottom of the plinth,
which is visible below the oak trim to a depth of 1
inch. This makes it look slimmer and sleeker. The solid
oak box hides a large and deep stripe of "liquid"
rubber, more like plasterscene in consistency, which
cures in time to hard rubber. The oak trim is nailed
and glued directly to the MDF body, the two extra
elements meant to act as "constrained-layer damping" as
the whole is a single mass, even if not layered
horizontally. This Lenco body replaced a Maplenoll
Athena/Ariadne/Kiseki Purpleheart Sapphire combo as
well, which it beat by a large margin when armed with
the Rega RB300 re-wired with Cardas and Music Boy
interconnects, and mounted with an Accutex 320 MM
cartridge. Other photos show the Rega tonearm in the
original Lenco hole, showing the severity of the VTA
discrepancy, which one can see is not so severe after
all, a tall cartrdige going a long way to mitigating
this.

Despite imperfect VTA and geometry, the Lenco/Rega combo
executed this way beats all belt-drives I have heard so
far, including some very heavy hitters, and no
distortion is audible as the Lenco's supreme speed
stability improves cartridge tracking! So for those who
don't want to butcher their Lencos, try this!
