About Us

In January 2003, I bought a fortnightly magazine called Practical Watercolour and tried my hand at painting. This interest in watercolours came from seeing a Paul & Thomas Sandby collection at Bolton Art Gallery when I was a young lad. Of course, I wasn't any good at painting, but like so many others, I enjoyed learning this great hobby.

Shortly afterwards, I created a quick website called The Watercolour gallery to allow other subscribers of the magazine to display their attempts at magazine projects. I was pretty short on time because of work commitments back then, so after a while I had to close the site, but one of the members reopened the site in an MSN Group and called it The New Watercolour Gallery. The same members are still posting their work there today.

In October 2003, I gained sponsorship from a local art supplier (Ken Bromley Art Supplies) to run a competition to raise funds for the local Hospice. Entrants had to submit a 7"x5" painting in order to have the chance to win a fabulous Mahogany Paintset from Windsor & Newton. 102 member paintings were submitted and the prize was won by Syd Collinson in St Helens. The paintings will be sold and all profits will go to Bolton Hospice.

This competition gave me the idea of painting for charity. I decided that all my painting would be done for charity. This website will serve to advertise my paintings and to advertise those of others who wish to join me. All the paintings submitted from the October 2003 competition will be sold on behalf of Bolton Hospice.

Profits from other paintings will go to  Martin House Children's Hospice.
