Ron "Smudge" Smith was born in Hockley in 1928, drawing and painting has been a part of his life since childhood. Ron has a high profile in Birmingham and around the West Midlands. He has been interviewed on local radio by Carl Chinn, Jenny Wilkes and Malcolm Boyden. He and his work have been included on a video of Birmingham and he has had numerous exhibitions.
In 1984 the first of a trilogy titled "A Paddle in Hockley Brook" was written and published.
