Lock and Load (03/07/02 )
Meilyn stood in the center of a square little room. Around her on racks, tools of aggression and war sat beckoning for her to choose.
Meilyn smirked, “If we’re in dream why couldn’t I just imagine bigger guns.”
“Mei… er… ma’am, could you just pick something so we can get your armor fitted.” Geon said with an obvious impatience.
Meilyn winked, “Just hold your horses sugah, it is something of an art to pick the right one.”
Bregan peeked around the corner and mouthed to Geon, “horses? Sugah?”
Geon just shrugged and whispered, “She’s been watching too many of those human holovid shows… Wes Terns or such.”
Black, foxy paws grabbed both of them by their arms and dragged them into suit up.
Kailli smiled, “Come on kits we don’t have all day.” She called back to Meilyn, “Mei, hurry it up… how hard can it be to pick a weapon?”
Geon and Bregan simultaneously, “It’s an art to pick the right one…”
“I can’t believe it, I’ve hired comedians!” Tycko shook his head.
Leaving the two Lupines to merge with their suits, Tycko and Kailli examined their gear.
Tycko mused, “I should have known something was wrong… I mean think about it, Meilyn got clearance for a Mesh-Mek. Heck, WE got clearance for them… these things are so experimental it isn’t funny.”
“I guess maybe you can shape your dreams to an extent Ty…”
In the armory Meilyn whistled. She entered the suit-up area with a big grin on her face and a light support particle beam cannon.
“Lookee what I found!”
Geon raised an eyebrow, “We had one of those?”
“One of the marines must have brought it.” Meilyn shrugged and stated matter-of-factly.
Tycko nodded, “Maybe we all can shape things in minor ways.”
The group suited up in their Mesh-Mek suits and headed to the airlock section. Several Marines were stationed at the ship’s hatchway, which was not yet opened, ready just in case of a potential breech assault. Each saluted and continued to hold their respective positions.
The ship’s scanner read a breathable atmosphere similar to that inside of their ship itself. Power signatures were low and the airlock observation cameras showed the locking area free of any hostile personnel or equipment.
Bregan shook his head, “breathable Fenrisian atmosphere, that’s too damn convenient for my tastes.”
“Never the less, we have to do this. If we can loosen the things grip on our minds, we can free ourselves and escape this dreamscape.”
Geon looked at the ground, ears back against his head. “Wee, wounds and pain…”
Kailli touched him on the shoulder, “better than living in dreams, dieing in the real world and feeding our life force to whatever monsters trap us here.”
Everyone collectively nods to her assessment of the situation.
“Lock and load everybody… we’re going in hot.” Tycko commanded as he powered up and removed the safety on his weapon.”
