Boarding shuttle (27/11/99 )
Boarding shuttles are designed with one goal: to get a squad of troops on board an enemy ship in order to neutralise the vessel as quickly and quietly as possible, without recourse to a ship-to-ship battle. It is essentially an APC, it’s weapon mounts refitted with shield generators. A single photon cannon is fitted in a sponson slung beneath the cockpit.
The multiple shield generators offer superb protection for such a small vessel, and boarding shuttles can deliver it’s cargo of fifteen strike troops in reliative safety. Once the target is reached, a special shield variant is used to secure the ship firmly onto the target’s hull, and plasma cutters automatically remove a panel large enough for troops to enter.
Boarding shuttles were once considered an elegant solution to costly battles, and enjoyed immense popularity among Accipterons, Fenrir and other races with excetional strike troops. Since the Gyran expansion, however, boarding shuttles are less and less popular, a ferry to almost certain death.
