ERS Missile (06/09/99 )
Extended-Range Standoff (ERS) Missiles
Class: Most commonly used in C class or larger
Speed: Moderate (by missile standards; can outrun all meks and most skimmers)
ROT(Rate Of Turn): Slow (missile standards)
Penetration Damage: Moderate
Concussion Damage: Very Low
Explosive Damage: Very High
Range: Extremely Long
Desc.: The ERS missile is commonly used against slow ships of equal size. This missile is capable of tracking and engaging targets at extremely long distances, so it is equipped with a lot of fuel. The missile itself is relatively large, and it packs a lot of punch. It also has a relatively wide area of effect. A missile of this type from a C class or smaller craft can destroy most other craft of equal or lower class with one direct hit to the hull. However, there is a drawback to this weapon. Due to the amount of fuel required for the missile and the size of its warhead, a sacrifice had to be made in terms of the propulsion system's size. The missile still moves quickly, but designers decided that they would rather sacrifice maneuverability than speed. As a result, the missile cannot turn very quickly, and good or regular pilots of lighter craft can often outmaneuver it when they detect it's approach.
