Description: The Fenrir Mesh-Mek (commonly called M&M’s, serves about the same operational purpose as the GC Ninja Mek, but it’s design principles are radically different. The ‘mesh’ in the name refers to a conglomeration of nanites that are meshed together by strong individual short-range magnetic fields, comparable to the GC shield technology. These nanites constitute the skin/armor of the mek and form a supple casing around the wearer, allowing unprecedented freedom of movement. In other words, the mek is worn like a suit and hardly adds any bulk. A six-foot Fenrir warrior, when suited up, will be just over eight feet tall. Weapons are carried externally, attached to the hardpoints of the backpack/powerpack (being one of the few solid objects of the suit, the other being the triple-redundant comp unit and helmet/forepaw controls).
Walking/running movement is achieved by a shifting of each individual magnetic field, altering the shape and angle of the mek’s limbs, using very little energy but resulting in swift and powerful propulsion on the ground. In the air, the nanite casing can alter shape to form a gliding wing (passive) or, when used in combination with a thruster pack, shape itself into an active wing configuration. Finally, in space, the suit is manoeuvered by using the multi-directional thrust vectoring of the standard thrusterpack.
The suit is usually controlled by internal sensor readings copying the movements of the occupant, combined with tongue/chin activated helmet toggles and forepaw control pads. The Fenrir squad use a different method though, linking up their internal nanites with the nanites of the mek, thus allowing finer motor control and dispensing with the need to use the other switches/toggles/buttons (patterns of slight muscle contractions are used instead, similar to the way an amputee would learn to control a cybernetic limb).
It goes without saying that the energy signature of this mek is extremely low, making it the ideal tool for covert insertion into hostile territory. Once in place, all other energy sources can be reduced, and the slight mimetic properties of the nanites can be used to alter the shape and texture of the suit. Color can be varied by changing the angle of refraction of the nanites, allowing it’s usual dull black exterior to shift to dark gray, blue, yellow or red (or mixes thereof, blended or in pre-programmed camo patterns).
