Technology: Mass Driver weapon.
The mass driver is a large weapon system which projects a searing bolt of energised matter. The mass driver fires a stream of tiny particles accelerated to a significant portion of the speed of light. The momentum and energy of these particles gives the weapon a fearsome punch.
Viewed along it’s axis, the discharge from a mass driver is little more than a small flash. Viewed from a distance, it resembles a coloured flare of laser light, as the particles give off energy in all directions.
