Technology: Neural Lash, or Neurowhip.
Simple both in concept and in use, the neural lash is made from countless metal coils which generate a current when flexed. The resulting charge plays hell with the nerve endings of a target, causing considerable pain with very little physical damage.
The neurowhip is a vicious and unpleasant weapon, with very little military value. It’s too unwieldy for riot control, offers no defensive capability, is easily damaged by other weapons, and is dangerous around electronic equipment. Needles to say, any being who does choose to carry one simply likes to cause pain...
