GC Rules and Conventions (23/06/99 )
Interactive fiction is flexible--the writers all need to have their own space to work within the given universe and to exercise their own creativity. However, a few rules need to be established in order to keep things running smoothly and to help new writers fit in easily.
1) Respect. This is a bit of a catch-all. Respect for other writers, and their ideas and opinions, will keep conflict at a minimum. Interaction between characters and plotlines is encouraged--but do it reasonably, not by tampering harshly with another writer's plot without their permission.
Also, respect our policies on language and content. Recall that this board is moderated, so failure to follow this rule may result in messages going unapproved or being deleted.
2) Follow continuity within reason. A lot can happen in the GC universe, but a swarm of Teletubbies pouring through a dimensional rift into VDS1 would only send the story downhill.
3) Use threads. In order to keep the message board neat and easy to read, major plotlines will be started with a new post, and any writing within that plotline should be posted as a reply to the original message, keeping each story grouped together. The "Welcome!" thread and any threads designated "OOC" (Out of Character or Out of Context) are open for writer chat. Start new threads when writing new plotlines separate from anything else in progress, e.g., character background stories.
That'll be enough rules for now, I'm sure you'll agree. Oh, and yes--
*4*) Have fun, and be creative!
