HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR

#394 Mike De Pavia takes two out of three as #28 Thorndyke Takes Final

Around 30 cars turned up for the Halloween Spectacular meeting for stock rods as this was an extra meeting to the fixture list. The weather  was not the best but the rain did hold off but it was like a really heavy mist that came down making the track very tricky to race on as we were only following the bangers. The man of the first race #394 De Pavia taking the advantage of his yellow grade as he seemed to find  his way to the front in no time as no one seemed to have the grip as he did from the whites and yellow graders, off the front of the blue saw #472 Phair  going very well  he was making some nice moves to get himself up the field with star men Carter ,Smyth and Sturt were all going well in the greasy conditions #219 Shinn was on it from the off and was going  well. Keeping himself from most of the red grade drivers. But no one was going to take this one from #394 De Pavia, 2nd  ‘472 Phair. 3rd #28 Thorndyke

Heat two got under way as the track was still very greasy yet again we saw #394 De Pavia finding a good line  around the Foxhall  stadium this  time saw #472 Phair again going very well from the front of  his blue grade #168 Sturt ,#447 Smyth and #500 Carter were all on the move and all going well #162 Waller Barrett  was not finding the line Carter got under him and Barrett went in to hard  spinning himself out, #447 Smyth seemed to have found the best line as he got himself past Sturt and Carter and  them pulled himself a large gap. Young Jimmy Galloway #72  was going so much better in this one and giving chase to #472 Phair  but none of them were to pass the southern driver of #394 Mike De Pavia 1st #394 De Pavia 2nd #427 Phair 3rd #72  Galloway.

Final all cars were out on track as the Clark of the course had seen the way that #394 Mike De Pavia had been pulling his self a great lead in heat's one and two from his yellow grade so he put Mike back to the back of the blue grade, I have known Mike for many years he would not have minded this as he has done a  few years of racing. As we saw the pace car pull away (I for  got to say that we had rolling starts all night) as track was very slippery this time from the back saw young #17 Mc Donald on it from the off he has been down for the last couple of meetings and has not had much luck at all lets hope that gets better for him as its a long way from Scotland, but back to front runners saw #555 Lee Close on it from yellow he is a new comer to stock  rods and  sure he wont be at yellow for much  longer had some good placing in last few meetings. But the  man on the move was {young well could say old hahahah ) #28 Alan Thorndyke he was holding a good line lap after lap #472 Phair #91 Wayne Leedell had a bad coming together making a bit of mess of both cars but sure they will be back for next meeting . #219 Shinn #152 Taylor  and #162 Waller Barrett had a coming together but no damage to any cars which was good  for all three drivers .Smyth #447  done really  well getting himself up in the  top  five. The one we were keeping a close eye on was #394 De Pavia as he started at the back of the blues and still got him  self   up   in contention he's sure going to be a driver to give the top men some good racing but the  man of the  final #28 Thorndyke 2nd #555 Close and getting himself  up to 3rd  #394 Mike De Pavia  all in all  was a great meeting for the stock rods
Next  meeting we have  Best in Britain  and may the best man win good luck to all drivers

POLLEYSPORT/YOKOHAMA FINAL  WIMBLEDON 25TH OCT 2009

What a night for stock rods with over 30 cars and they all seemed to all want to win the race in the first lap with so much pushing going on and  not a sign of a black cross ending up with  so many cars that got damage in  every race, drivers need to  pull themselves in  to line coz no driver  can keep  taking  the cost of  the  damage that has been going on. On a good note  we have had some  great  numbers of  stock rods  over  2009  and we want  to  keep it that way  but many  meetings like this we will be having  less cars and  that's not  good  for  any formula  especially  as the drivers were called  for a meeting  and were told they  would  be black  crossed and so on this  didn’t seem to make any  difference. That's my little point across now give you a quick run down.

#152 Taylor was on pole and lead them away #500 Carter got under Taylor when Taylor came back across Carter putting  Carter on the infield Carter got himself  back on the track only to be pushed on by #148 Pat Smith  leaving Carter stuck on the outside line for many laps #87 Abbott  had a big push from behind him not sure what happened  #472 Phair was behind him but didn’t see what went on Taylor #152 was trying to hold the lead  but as the cars were just in a long line behind him and then he ended up being  taking out #77 Owen took over the lead and  Pope #381 was going well from  were I was standing . #87 Abbott got himself back up on terms but #77 went on to take  the win then #381 Pope and in 3rd #87 Abbott the top three in the rounds saw 1st #87Abbott#, 2nd #152 Taylor, 3rd #500 Carter

Heat two all cars out on track saw final winner of the Polley Final  #77 Owen did an impressive roll coming out of the score board end talking  to  him he was not sure what  happened  he said  that he  got under #60 Rea and next thing he was up and over, which made a mess of his car  but hopefully  can be repaired so all good. On the re start saw #313 Bowring go across the water from the #77 Owen car after his roll but was unable  to keep car in a straight line ending up going into a post  making a right mess of his car also in the same  crash saw #213 Moreton,  then the  #313 car bounced out and went into the side of #447 Smyth car making a mess of his car as well. This  race was just  full of contact,  I was not sure  what drivers had on there minds as no one wanted to go around the outside and just drove through them then when drivers did try the outside drivers were just going in harder and deeper to stop them passing. The man off the front saw #394 Mike De Pavia  really going well and took the lead one that seem to be going a lot better  this meeting was also was young Jowers #31 he was having a battle with #472 Phair  from the front of his blue grade he was going  well. #17 Mc Donald  didn’t seem to be  having a good meeting  but  its always nice to see him  race with  us.
1st #384 De Paiva 2nd #31 Jowers and good drive in 3rd from #472 Phair

Final the track was bad after the  bangers but all staff were working hard on the track cars lined  up and yet  again saw a  ew cars  getting  some damage #8 Bibby was on outside  and  clip  the  post on the pit bend at the same  time saw long distance  traveller  #17 Mc Donald on the  outside going in very hard into the side of  Bibbys  car with Spedeworth star man Andy  Sturt  #168 coming in on the end of  it. red The flag was out  Andy  managed to get his car  to the middle and with help got his car back out . Our  other star man  #447 Smyth was on it making his way up the field very fast when he  got himself  under #101 Bowring  when they made contact with each other ending  up with Smyth getting a  puncture ending his race. #27 Stimson was out in his nice looking car  he was going very well. But the man on a mission  saw #28 Thordyke he took the lead  and no one was  going  to pass him 1st  #28 Thorndyke, 2nd #472 Phair and a  really  good  drive from his red grade #418 Pat Smith we have had a meeting added to  fixture  list  this sat 31st  Oct so lets put on a good  show and  try and  keep it a clean  meeting  with lots less  contact see you all there

SMYTH #447 5TH TIME IN HIS RACING CAREER TAKES THE ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Around 34 cars turned up for the English Championship at Wimbledon all drivers pulled their grid when they went to sign on at the office  We had reverse grids on the two races the points you made in the two heats determined where you started for the  English. The points system that was used was the Carole Longhurst grid matrix system, The positions went from 1st to 20th giving pints from 250 down to 60 points for 20th place. It looked a lot of cars out on track star man #168 Andy Sturt took the lead and left the rest of the pack fighting to get there positions. Then new World Champion  #829 Fox was off the back for the first race and was having a good race with  #924 Stuart Wright and #500 Carter all making up some good places to get up into the top twenty to give themselves some points. The other man that was on the move was start man #447 Smyth getting himself up in to top ten. #280 Luke Stonehouse and #313 Bowring had a coming  together and #163 Pickett got on back of  Carter  #500 which  ended up with  Carter in the tires on pit  bend after the race was over.  #168 Sturt went on to take the win in 2nd #Ed Trofer and 3rd #381 Pope. www.stockrod.co.uk sponsored the top three in points for 2009 and there trophies were handed out 1st Smyth #447 2nd Sturt #168 3rd Carter #500

Next heat was out on track seeing new World Champion #829 Fox on poll position but the man that was going really well and got himself a great little lead was #87 Steven Abbott, Steve always turns out a nice car and  takes a lot of pride in his car so was nice to see him have a good race  that was going his way, Fox #829 was giving chase to Abbott. Carter #500  was finding it hard work with his car after the encounters with tires in first  race which saw #8 Bibby pass him. But by the  end of the race Carter’500  and  Wright#924  were on the back of  Bibby #8 Carter got underneath him as did Wright as they went on to have a close race with each other. Yet again saw star man going well #447 Smyth getting himself up into top ten grabbing some more good points #168 found himself up to twenty first but that didn’t give Andy any points in this one but with his win from the first heat he was  going to have some good points and be up there on the grid.

English Championship
The front row saw #829 Fox then #669 Trofer then star men from Spedeworth #500 Carter on inside  #447 Smyth on the outside #924 Wright our  other two top drivers were joint on points to had to spin a coin they did and #87 Abbott won the toss so he took the next place and #168  Sturt came in behind him as the green flag dropped saw Smyth and  Carter get themselves in to first and second and before long  Smyth had pulled himself a nice lead Carters car was still not right  from his crash in heat one when the rest of  the field  started to close in on him. Trofer, Sturt  and  Fox they were all very close when Carter got spun out by Trofer not sure it was all his doing but he did get black flagged off there was a big long line of cars that went in #4 Matt Ovenden hit Cater head on and young Jack Tuffen was flat out into the back making a mess off all three cars . They stopped the race and  re lined them up Carter  did  take his 2nd place on grid but not for long as car would not go round .Smyth #447 pulled  himself a large lead and I was fairly sure no one was going to take this race from him. #924 Wright was going well and our other star man #168 Andy Sturt  was trying every which way to get pass him to give chase but with the World Champion 829 Fox on Sturt  bumper  he  could not get pass and they all just stayed in there same positions English Champ #447 Smyth  2nd #928 Wright and in a very close 3rd #168 Andy Sturt.

#17 ROBERT MCDONALD WINS THE FOXHALL 500

Around 41 cars booked in for the  Foxhall 500 with #29 Dave Philip and  #17 Robert McDonald from Scotland which also saw the  return of  #27 Dean Stimpson in to stock rods it’s always  nice to see drivers come back, #219 Mark Shinn  was also back  after  his  big  crash at Yarmouth a few weeks ago.  There was a drivers meeting before racing got under way and were told that they would be put in grids of 8 cars which would then be reversed.

Race one all car’s were out on track and  it looked to many cars out at once but all the drivers drove the best they could  with so  much traffic. #60 Daniel Rea  was another to return after his ban as  was also #194 Tony Barns and sods law  they had a coming together in the first few laps just a racing incident

The front runner from pole saw young #72 Jimmy Galloway taking the lead. One that seem to be going really well #17 McDonald further down the field  saw Smyth #447, #418 Pat Smith, #500 Carter and Davy Philp#29 having a great race and was all going forward up in front of them saw Jason Pickett #163 on the outside of young Charlie Jowers #31 for many laps Picket then got him self past the top boys was on Jowers #31 when  #447 Smyth  manages to get  round him Carter went out to do same  when  #418 Pat Smith clipped the back end of  Carter car putting them both side ways ending up with Shinn #219 and #152 Shaun Taylor being hit from Paul Frost ending up with cars having  lots of  damage, Carter#500, #152 Taylor and #418 Smith all sat on the infield and which also meant it was the end of their racing  for the night. The top five over the line in heat one was  all from the front pack of the  grid 1st #72 Galloway 2nd #17Mcdonald 3rd #381 Pope 4th #288 Palmer and in  5th #4 Ovenden

Heat two out on track and we were now down on numbers after race one incidents but still managed to field 35 cars on track this time saw #29 Philp was the pole man. #29 #168 and #447 pull away from the rest of the pack. The man that we had our eyes on was young McDonald as he came from the back of the field to make his way up to get on the back of Paul Frost #316.  But cant  take any thing away from the winner  #29 Philp he held the advances from Spedeworth’s top two star men at bay 2nd  sturt #168 3rd #447 Smyth 4th Paul Frost #316 and in 5th #17 McDonald from way down the grid.

FOXHALL 500

This saw long distant traveller’s  from  Scotland #17 McDonald on pole then on outside pole #72 Galloway then it went #29,#447,#381and  #77 as the flag dropped  the two Scottish drivers  McDonald and Philp were away and  getting a great jump on the rest of the drivers Smyth#447 then spent a few  laps getting past the #72 car of  Galloway but by this  time the top two  had pulled themselves a really good  lead. Smyth dropped the rest of the field and was giving chase but was not meant to be for Smyth this year as they had a great start on him. Philp was pushing  McDonald every lap and they were  very  close racing when in the last few laps  Philps  car started to miss fire and had  to retire from the race leaving #17Mcdonald to take a  easy win this then put Smyth up to 2nd and  Richard Pope #381 up to 3rd  I would  like to  thank M&R Travel of Woodbridge for  sponsoring this meeting its  great  to  see the stock rods get great sponsors like this I am looking for some sponsors  for  2010 if  any one would  be able to help   stock rod out contact me at any meeting  or  email me at  kimjane500@aol.com   even if  it just a set  of trophies would  be good . Stock rods have really picked up. I would like to thank all the sponsors that helped me out over the 2009

The next big meeting is at Wimbledon 11th of October for the ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIP and wish all drivers the best of luck.

BALLYMENA RACEWAY - 25 SEPTEMBER 2009

Shane Murray retained the Stock Rod Irish title after a fast, thirty lap title decider at Ballymena Raceway on September 25. The grid was formed on the basis of points scored in the province throughout the entire season and paired Murray with Victor McAfee on the front row. Murray surged into the lead at the green flag as McAfee dived down into second ahead of Micky McFall and Raymond Harper. The race quickly developed into a battle between the pair as their ferocious pace up front pulled them away from the main pack. The gap between first and second ebbed and flowed as they worked their way through knots of back marking traffic, but once the pair returned to clear air again Murray always managed to ease out a slight gap once more. Despite McAfee’s best efforts it was Murray who kept his nose in front all the way to take the title for the second year in a very row, with McAfee in second and Yokohama Champion McFall in third.

The support race was run in roof colours and it was Gordon who ended the season with a win ahead of McAfee and Alastair Calvin.

Stuart Fox wins the World Final

Drivers from all over the UK came to the Cowdenbeath Stadium for the 2009 World Final for the stock rods

All drivers had just only five laps to put in there best time to get their grid position when the first set of cars went out onto a  track that was wet as we had just had a shower of rain which meant that no one was going to be putting in great times. After the first of of times Spedeworth driver #168 Andy Stuart was on provisional pole after putting the best time as track started to dry then we had a second run for the lap times as by now the track was in great shape and the man that put the best time in was Incarace driver #829 Stuart fox and from where I was standing he looked liked the one that every one had to beat as he was making it look so easy round the Cowdenbeath track. Spedeworth’s young  Jimmy Galloway #72 came with no engine in his car as he was waiting for a new one to arrive which it did and they worked hard to get it all done only to make the last chance race when he had a big coming together with #388 James Halkett car making a bit of mess of Galloway’s car which was big shame after all that hard work. G M P top man #29 David Philip seemed to be the next one in line to get any where near the times to Fox #829  and #101 Ian Ostler was putting some great times as well #67 Kerr Paterson  seemed to be right on the pace as well. #447 Smyth seemed to be close to the top runners but his car didn’t look as smooth as usually is. #500 Carter was not having a great time at all as he just could not find the line around the race wall. Talking to Spedeworth boys none of them seem to take to it here.

The Scottish drivers all made us welcome  #168 Andy Stuart said we all would need  500 laps to get the hang of  it but they all gave it a good go. #17 Mc Donald crashed in the first few laps as did #171 O'Dell with in a few laps we lost a few more cars as the front man #829 Fox was just pulling himself a nice lead when the yellow flags come out this letting David  Philp #29 to get right back on terms with fox #829  with #657 Lattka on the bumper of them  both the green flag dropped  Philp #29 pushed as  hard as he could  but fox just seemed to pull away again giving himself at least 10 cars length as he went on to take the win with loads in hand  Philp#29 had a comfortable second and in third Lattka  #657 for  Spedeworth drivers 447 Smyth did get himself up to forth but along way off the  lead cars. Our  next meeting  for  Spedeworth  drivers  is at Ipswich 26th Sep FOXHALL 500  been told we have a full booking of 38 cars so one not to be missed.

Would like to say a big well done to Fox # 829 on his world final win.

Smeatharpe Stadium – Stock Rods West of England Championship

Sunday 6th September

There was an excellent turn out of stock rods today – 28 in total. The regular Autospeed drivers were joined by a number of visiting drivers most notably Mike De Pavia (394), Nick Taylor (858) and Chris Bradbury, British F2 Stock Car champion joined the racing in Colin Higman’s 778 Nova.

The healthy number of cars was split into 3 groups and racing consisted of a 3 heat point’s accumulator for grid position in the West of England Championship.

Heat 1

Luke Thomas (916) got off to a flying start on a dry track and easily pulled away from a squabbling pack behind. There was a lot of contact as drivers battled for positions ending in Ian Frampton (224) and Nick Taylor (858) receiving black crosses and 2 place penalties. Mid-race Kev Lock (49) thumped the fence on the back straight sending him into the path of Rob Peters (30) who had to take evasive action resulting in a head on with an infield tractor tyre. A race suspension was called to remove the heavily damaged car and Rob to receive medical attention. Andy Giles (565) and Stuart Watters (241) also retired to the infield at this stage. Racing restarted with Luke Thomas stretching out his lead to take the win. A good battle between Andy Thomas (27) and Barry Tricky (37) resulted in 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

Heat 1 result: 916; 27; 37; 34; 925; 858; 181; 244; 54; 193

Heat 2

Heat 2 saw Andy Giles (565) making it back onto the grid with steely determination. John Tait (54) started on pole with Rick Cornell (40), Andy Thomas (27) and Andy Giles (565) quickly battling through the field.  With the pressures rising, so did contact which saw a coming together of Chris Bradbury (778) and Brendon Sealy (730). Harry Palmer (288) was black crossed for contact on Bradbury’s rear bumper; this left Andy Giles running away with the lead. Contact between Adam Daniels (92) and Andy Thomas (27) resulted with Daniels spinning off into the infield. Andy Thomas and Mike De Pavia (394) black flagged for contact as Rick Cornell (40), Andy Thomas (27) and Andy Giles (565) frantically battled for the lead. Andy Thomas received a 2 place penalty promoting Glen Sanders (34) to third position.

Heat 2 result: 565; 40; 34; 27; 550; 394; 288; 151; 42; 92

Heat 3

With Mike De Pavia (394) on pole the sun finally made an appearance. A slow start from Ian Frampton (244) caused a bottle neck which saw De Pavia break away from the pack with ½ a lap lead. A racing incident involving Harry Palmer (228) and Chris Bradbury (778) saw them both retire from the race. Back marker number 50 (no name on his visor!) got caught up in the battle for 1st place between De Pavia and Nick Taylor (858) and clipped the fence on the home straight and ended up spinning on the start/ finish line. Chris Drake (193) and Jordan Pattison (925) took evasive action which bought them together with Pattison heavily hitting an infield tractor tyre and sustaining massive frontal damage. Racing was suspended while Pattison received medical attention. Racing re-started with De Pavia still in front with Taylor close on his boot lid. Ian Frampton (244) was black crossed for jumping the re-start. An impressive outside overtake saw Taylor take the lead with only a few laps to go.

Heat 3 result: 858; 394; 193; 916; 244; 42; 40; 181; 60; 550

Temperatures were running high in the Final which saw Luke Thomas (916) and Andy Thomas (27) battling from the off.  Nick Taylor (858) took advantage to take the lead leaving the two Thomas’ fighting for 2nd place. Andy Giles (565) quickly joined in the battle which saw his car take to two wheels and using Thomas’ nova to stop him from rolling over. Giles was black crossed for this manoeuvre while Thomas sped off to recapture lost ground. As the pressure mounted there was some excellent racing between the top 4 as they passed through the back markers. 3 laps to go and the pressure was on Nick Taylor (858) to keep the lead. Contact between back markers Adam Daniels (92) and John Tait (54) on the pit corner leaving them stationary leaving the top 4 having to take an unusual line to go around. Quick reactions saw Nick Taylor (858) cross the line, hotly followed by Andy Thomas (27) and Andy Giles (565) but with Giles penalised 2 places Luke Thomas (916) took 3rd place.

All so we have  come  to the  end of  the Spedeworth  National  Point  chart  1st #447 Smyth 2nd #168 Sturt 3rd #500 Carter  as usual the Stock rods have  put  in  some good racing in  2009  and  hope we  keep it  up for next  year . Back to the meeting in hand with around 20 stock rods and weather was kind to us. #152 Taylor seemed  to be  going  well in a new car he was out in, #704 Cowles and  #116 Madden seem to be having some contact  with  each  other for most of the  race  the man that was on the move was  #428 Pat Smith from the red grade as was #500 Carter and  #91 Wayne Leedell all seem to be  having a great  race with each other  back to the lead car and by this  time saw  #116 Madden take the lead with #704 Cowles  pushing him all the way lap after lap but Cowles could not  find  his way  past #116 Madden  1st #116 Madden  2nd  #704 Cowles and  in  3rd  #418  Pat Smith . The fastest lap of race one was set by Wayne Leedell #91

Heat Two

#74 Riches  was going very well and holding  the lead for lap after lap the only  man  that was pulling him in was #152 Taylor,  #704 Cowles was going  well as  was #381 Pope #91 Leedell and  #500 Carter again were having a good  race when not  too sure  what went on but Leedell #91 and  #381 Pope had a coming together ending  up  with  Pope in the  pit  bend  fence. lucky  with not to much damage  talking  to  Wayne Leedell in the  pits said  he just could not get off  the back of  popes  car. Back  to the race leader #74 car of Riches was being  pressured  by #152 Taylor , Taylor tapped the back end of  Riches car and  he was under him to go on and  take the win  Madden and Carter got themselves up in the top five. #313 Bowing  didn’t seem to be having a good  meeting  #162 Waller Barrett  had engine  problems so end of his racing for the night  young  Lusher #14 was not having the  best of meeting not going  right  for him as Yarmouth  one of the tracks he seemed to go well at. 1st #152 Taylor  2nd #74 Riches and in 3rd #704 Cowles Kim Carter #500 set the fastest lap time in this heat.

Final

Cowles #704 was on it from the off  and in no time had himself  a large lead to leave the rest of the field to fight to get the other placing’s #555 Close was going well finding himself casing the  #704 car of Cowles he was closely  followed by #74 Riches, the man on the  move from the back in this one  #91 Wayne Leedell he found himself up in the top five by the end of the race  #152 Taylor car put all its water down on track  sending  Carter #500 spinning on it  but still managed to recover  and keep  going #87 Abbott  didn’t seem to be his usual self  around the  Yarmouth  track #116  Madden managed to hold  off Leedell#91 to get himself a  forth  but not  taking any thing  away  from the  winner he had  this race sown up 1st  #704 Cowles 2nd #555 Close 3rd #74 Riches  Fastest  lap set  by  Carter #500next  meeting is at Aldershot  hope to see you all there.

Smyth #447 retains the southern championship

Arlington Stadium 26/08/09

Twenty stock rods turned out for the Southern Championship weather was not sure what it wanted to do. Heat one: as the cars came out on track and the grid was drawn and the next was to be reversed. As the race got under way #87 Abbott and #418 Smith had a coming together, ending up with Pat Smith getting a black flag .Pope was off the front and was going well as was #280 Stonehouse but the man on the move all the way from the back of the grid was #447 Smyth getting himself up in top five with in no time. Carter #500 Sturt #168 and Pickett #163 were having a long battle all race some good racing from them all. Young Jowers#31 had a coming together with the pit bend wall (talking to his dad mike said he just got squeezed wide coming in to the bend so I am sure they will get that sorted by next meeting.)

Heat two out on track seeing #447 Smyth on poll no one could see him being beaten in this one, the one that came the closest to get any were near him was #168 Sturt others were all closing on the 3rd place man #394 Mike De Paiva #500, #313, #418, #77 were all getting in a heap behind him ending up in the last lap it all going a bit pear shaped but no one got any damage so seemed to all be happy Smyth went on to take a easy win.

Southern Championship

The two star men of stock rods of Spedeworth #447 Smyth and #168 Sturt were the two poll cars both drivers have held this Championship a few times between them and they always give us a good show. #381 Pope #77Owen were next in line, #394 De Paiva was doing well to get up this far on the grid as he is a yellow grade driver. The  two top men were on it from the off Smyth seemed to making the race his pace, Sturt was pushing hard trying all the tricks of racing to pass but after a few laps Smyth seemed to have pulled himself a small lead and keep this to the end #77 Owen and #381 Pope were having a battle for the  third place then down field saw yellow roof driver #394 De Pavia driving his stock rod hard but was having blue flag for many laps as Carter#500 was all over  back of  him  ending  up  with #394 De Paiva getting a black cross for not  keeping line all in all it was a  good meeting. Smyth#447 retaining the Championship once again.

GREAT YARMOUTH 23rd July

#77 Owen takes two out of three.

Around 20 Stock Rods turned out for Thursday’s meeting at Yarmouth, which is good for a Thursday night as so many drivers have work commitments. We seem to see the start of the race start in the pit lane, all drivers trying to get to the front of their grids. It was funny to see them all rush. A driver we don’t see very much up at Yarmouth is #171 Dean O’Dell, so it was good to see him turn out for the meeting.

Heat one got under way #77 Owen was going really well  and his car was going round the outside of  many cars  and  looking good, other drivers that were going really well was #219 Shinn and #316 Frost they both seemed to be  getting up the field well,  #381 Pope got himself  up and on to the back of Shinn but could not find no way past, drivers that seemed to be having a bad  day was #91 Leedell and  #500 Carter I can tell you that kim’s car had a misfire and talking to Leedell in pits he was just having  problems with his engine. Young Galloway #72 had a coming together with newcomer to Stock Rods and that was #704 Robin Cowles ending there race but back up the front saw #77 Owen take another clear win, 2nd #219 Shinn 3rd Pope #381

Heat two got under way this time new comer #555 Lee Close was on it from the off and was keeping a  good racing  line . Young Galloway #72 was not having a good night as his bonnet came off and race was stopped so end of his race once again. Steve Riches #74 was  going well with his new engine after his engine letting  go here last meeting.#38 Scott Billman was  giving chase to #555 Close  but was running out of laps to do anything with him #87 Steve Abbot was trying very hard to get up grid  but  the star men were  finding  it  hard to  get up in the top ten Mark Shinn got himself up to third and the win going to #555 Close 2nd #74 Riches 3rd #219 Shinn.

Final once again it was  funny  to  see  as the race  started in the pits for drivers to get to the front of there grids  this  time  Galloway was  on it from the off and got under the  #74 Riches but they  had a coming  together ending  up with  Riches #74 going  in very hard do hope he’s  ok and sorts the car soon, Galloway  was black  flagged  off  not  sure  what  did  go  on but talking  to Jimmy in pits  he said he was under #74 Riches and they bumped wheels but I didn’t see it  .this  time Paul Frost got  off the  front  of the reds and I was sure he was  going to  take the win but he  had a bad  coming  together and  ended up on infield  but  got him self back out on track  and  going well this time we saw #87 Abbot  and #500 Carter on the move #87 Abbot got under #162 Barret and #500 Carter was  following  Abbot  through when #162  tried  to  come  back in but  Carter was there ending up with #162 Barret being taking  round .Mark Shinn #219 was  going  really well best  that I have seen him  drive  he had some bad luck so always  nice  to see any one have good  times in racing. The man that I had my  eye on was #316 Frost  he was  going  really well and after he was punted on to the  in field he still got himself  up into the  top  three well driven Paul . Yet  again we saw #77 Owen take the win from his  blue  grade I am sure that this will be his last meeting at blue he has  had many wins so he will be up in the  points  next meeting  coming home in 2nd #316 Frost and  3rd #219 Shinn.

Our  next big meeting  for  stock  rods is  at Hednesford  for the national weekend  stock  rods   put  one of the  best  shows on at this meeting  with around  70  to 80  cars  going to be one not  to miss .The  trophies  for this meeting  have been sponsored  by ex stock rod  lady driver Gillian Philip so would  like  to say  many thanks  to  Gillian   I wish  all drivers the  best  of  luck  see you all there.

EUROPEAN CUP #70 MURRAY TAKES THE HONOURS

Spedeweekend was upon us and the weather was great one man that was missing in our line up of stock rods was star man Andy Sturt #168 I would like to congratulate Andy and his wife on the new baby girl. A large turn out of over 40 cars with some of the drivers were saying that we need more laps in heats and for the final with the amount of cars all out unfortunately being Spedeweekend this was not to happen. There were some new cars out with the likes of #163 Pickett that he done just in time for this weekend also #8 Stuart Bibby car looking like a new one as well as young Jack Tuffen #817 were looking very nicely turned out cars as was many more cars that were looking great. It was great to see #49 Calvin, #70 Murry come  over from Ireland with #29 Philp, #17 Mc Donald  and young Tony Lattka # 657 from Scotland all of them top class drivers.

Heat one  came out on track with the line up as they came out on track this was going to be the line  up for heat one this saw star man #477 Smyth on pole with  another star man #91 Wayne  Leedell on outside. The race got underway and Smyth made a  great start with Carter following him close behind him but the man on the move #29 Philp he was on both drivers quickly and made his way to the front to take the lead. Carter, Smyth and Philp left the rest of the pack and even went on to lap some drivers coming into the last lap, As Philp went to go around a back marker and ending up having a coming together let Smyth come under him to take the win.

1st Smyth#447 2nd Philp #29 3rd Carter #500

Heat two got under way this time it was reverse grid we had Spedeworth drivers in the top four rows so they knew they had no pressure from visiting drivers to push them #163 Jason Pickett was on pole in his nice new turned out car. Carl  Waller Barrelt #162 was giving Pickett a good race  for lap after lap, this time star Smyth #477 was at the back as was #29 Philp and  #500 Carter on the start there was lots of contact and Carter ending up hitting the rear end of #313 car Jamie Bowring  leaving the back of Bowring car bit a of a mess, talking to them after race said they all seem to stop and Carter didn’t see and just went in. Pat Smith #418 didn’t have a great first heat but seemed to be going better in this one Philp#29 was going well up the field as was smyth#477 when #447 Smyth came up to #8 Stuart Bibby, not sure what went on there as Bibby just took Smyth out I am sure they have sorted this out by now as both drivers just like to get on a do their racing. Other drivers that were going really well were #829 Fox as was #49 Calvin and #70 Murray but back to leader saw Pickett#163 take his first win in new car

1st Picket #163 2nd 162 Waller – Barrett and from down the field saw #49 Calvin taking 3rd

EUROPEAN CUP

This looked to be a great race with #29 Philp on pole with #70 Murray on his outside #49 Calvin inside 2nd row as the green flag dropped the top three cars were away and pulled themselves a bit of a gap on the rest of the field #163 Pickett #657 Latka with Spedeworth star man #447 Smyth was sat trying to get passed these two drivers mean while he could see top three cars getting away. Carter #500 had problems with his car but kept going just keeping a tight line for drivers to pass #162 Waller –Barrelt was trying for many laps and did pass Carter in last few laps Smyth did get himself past #163 Pickett, Latka held him off but the race of the day was going on at the front with #70 Murray sat on the outside of #29 Philip for over twenty laps with #49 Calvin right on there bumpers. There was some contact made not sure what went on as #49 Calvin took the chequered flag but found himself docked two places for contact so the win went to #70 Murray 2nd #29Philp #49 Calvin, this was one of the best races of the weekend, our next meeting is 15th July at Eastbourne and hope to see you all there

POLLEY MOTORSPORT TYRES ROUND. YARMOUTH 21ST JUNE 2009

YOUNG LUSHER#14 RETURNS AND TAKES THE FINAL WIN.

Around 22 cars turned up for the Polley round. I feel that a few drivers are saving their cars for the up and coming event Spedeweekend! Two newcomers to Spedeworth Stock Rods ranks were  #555 Lee Close and #704 Robin Cowles I have  been told he has came across from Swaffham  Raceway to join Spedeworth in a newly turned out  nova, we also saw the come back of  #14 young Gary Lusher return after have a month ban from the last meeting at Aldershot. I’m sure he was glad to be back out racing. #162 Waller – Barrett was out in a new nova.

Race one got under way and the track seemed to only have one line, man on the move Wayne Leedell #91 who was going well when #666 Paul Rice closed the door on him leaving Wayne no were to go ending up with Wayne  going up and over the  tires on the pit bend and almost rolling the car leaving driver’s behind  Wayne all  having to back off  87 Steven Abbott, 219 Mark Shinn and  Carter 500 were all a long way down field by this  time but from his blue grade saw Andy Owen #77 going  well  but the man that seemed  to be  getting a good line round here was #116 Madden. The newcomer  to  stock rods Lee Close was doing well as it only his  second  time out in a stock  rod as he was holding a good line and looked full of confidence I  am sure  he’s going to be one to keep an eye on after he as a few more  meetings under his  belt. Another newcomer to Spedeworth #704 Robin Cowles seem to look quite fast but his line didn’t look to good, as he seemed to be going out wide and then just cutting across other drivers. I am sure this will come right for him as at Spedeworth where we have a big turn out of stock  rods,   drivers all know they need to  keep tight as the  top  drivers will go round outside  but if they leave the  door open they will sure be in it .Back  to  the  leader the man that took the  chequered  flag in the  first  heat was #116 Madden 2nd #77 Owen  and  a  big well done or new comer 3rd #555 Lee Close fastest lap  time in heat one  #87 Abbott.

Heat two got under way young Lusher #14 lead them away, Owen was off the Front of his blue  grade and was pushing hard to get on the bumper  of Lusher and did so within a few laps, Carl Waller Barrett was off the front of the reds in his new car and looked to be  going well. The other one that was going well and nice to see make the  trip  to  Yarmouth  #472 Steven Phair  as  Steven  is  leading the Polley points at the moment he made the  trip to try and keep on top. Yet again #116 Madden was going well and got himself  up to the  back of  Lusher, further down the  field  the star men again were all finding it hard to get up in top  five, yet  again we saw Wayne  Leedell  going well only to   find himself  put onto the infield this time by 100 Kevin Teager shutting the  door on Wayne  making a mess of  Wayne’s car talking to Wayne after the race, he was not happy and ending up  putting car on trailer  his luck was not good but  knowing Wayne he be back on it for the Spedeweekend. Mark Shinn#219 was going well and getting himself up in the placing’s from the red grade. #152 Shaun Taylor was making his way up through the field but I think all drivers could not get grip any on the outside line so they all seemed just to all be in long line. But taking the win with a ease 1st Owen 2nd Lusher, 3rd #116 Madden, fasted lap time in heat two was set by #500 Carter

Final we had a long wait till this one got under way as the 2ltr Stock Cars in race before gave the fence a good pasting, so marshals were all out on track doing a good job.  The race got under way and again Lusher was on it from the off he was going really well, the first car to him was Owen off the front of the blues, he was having a good night as well. Man on the move from front of red grade  #162 Waller – Barrett  making his way up to get on the back end of Phair, further down the field saw Carter have a coming together with #116 Madden ending up  with Madden being taken round Carter and 87 Abbott were  having there own  little race and got themselves on the long line of drivers at the front no one would try the outside line but Phair did give it a go and in doing so lost his third place  to Waller- Barrett, back at the front there was no way young Lusher was going to let Owen pass and went on to  take a nice win. 1st Lusher 2nd Owen 3rd Waller- Barrett, the fastest lap time in final came from #219 Shinn.

The next meeting is the big event “the 2009 Spedeweekend” with a great turn out for all the formulas and not one to be missed. Let’s hope the weathers good to us all and hope to see you all there. I would like to wish all drivers the best of luck and may best man /lady win on the weekend.

BIRMINGHAM WHEELS

#29 DAVID PHILP WINS THE MIDLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

There was a good turn out of cars for the Midland Championship with around 45 cars of which 17 were Spedeworth cars. A few of our drivers I do believe have been doing some of the Birmingham meetings throughout the year others have not been for 5 or 6 years. Smyth #447, Carter#500, Smith #418 and Ovenden#4 were all there for when gate opened to try their cars as none of the Spedeworth drivers seemed to be on the pace, there were a lot of drivers from Scotland and the ones that seemed to stand out in practice were #17 McDonald and #29 Philip after a couple of runs #17 McDonald had a engine let go so they were flat out to change the engine before start time. It was nice to see Jonathan Lattka back out in a stock rod. Last time we were up there he was doing himself a fine stock car but he didn’t seem to like stock cars so good for us he’s back in stock rods in a Ex #163 Pickett car and going very well.

Young Jimmy Galloway had been racing  here before so there hope was for him to do well for Spedeworth it was a big shame not to see another star driver #168 Andy Stuart. Stuart Fox was the man on a move as he seemed the only car that was going around the outside of every other car that he came to as he just made it look so easy taking the first heat win with in second saw #29 Davy Philip and in third #991 Matt Smith following them home saw star man for Spedeworth #447 Smyth and Incarace driver #755 Mark Barber. Pat Smith #418 was being pushed very hard down the track by Richard Harrison #892 not sure what was going on there but they both ending up being loaded for the rest of the meeting.

Heat two this time saw Stuart Fox at the back for this heat and eyes were on him as he would come through the field with ease but the man that was going to take this race was young Jonathan Lattka #647 on his return to stock rods with in second Alex Hunter #730 and the fastest man of the day making his way up to third place Fox #829, further down in the next two places was #313 John Bowring and #982 James Baker.  With Foxy #829 getting  himself up to third in my mind made him on the pole position for the final I could not see any one getting near to him as many drivers seemed to be finding it hard to get there cars sorted for this Birmingham track.

Heat three This time #171 Dean O’Dell was on it from the off but young Jimmy Galloway was not going to let him get away with this easily neither was #17 McDonald they pulled themselves a small gap from Carter#500 and #44 Martin Mclean but Mclean got him self passed Carter as they both tried to give chase to the top three leaders. by this time #171 O’Dell went on to take the chequered flag first one for a Spedeworth driver of the  day very close in second #71 Galloway third #17 McDonald following them home #44 Mclean and #500 Carter.

Birmingham wheels final for the Midland Championship.

With fox # 892 on pole every one was sure he was to be the new Champ and as the race got under way he pulled himself a really good lead from #29 Philp but with all cars out on track Fox was going to have to cope with the back markers. Carl Waller-Barratt #162 came around the top bend on the rumble strips and ending up on infield and then came back out on to track into the side of Carter #500 leaving Carter no where to go ending taking #313 Bowring round I am not sure but I think #313 clipped the back end of young Galloway #72 sending him round as well, #447 Smyth seemed to be getting his car better by the end of the day but still off pace to the top boys from Birmingham #669 Ed Trofer and Mark Barber#755 as the laps were winding up Fox #829 had a coming together with #657 Anthony Lattka  ending up with Fox up the bank ending his race this then left the race in the hands of Davy Philps#29  who went on to  take a comfortable win and becoming the new  Midland Champion in second Birmingham  driver #669 Ed Troffer in third #755 Mark  Barber and chasing them home fourth #647 Lattka  and in fifth Smyth #447.

#101 JOHN BOWRING WINS THE FINAL

It was good weather and a lot cooler than we have had the last few days, Twenty three cars were booked in and looking to be another good meeting the grading seems a bit funny at moment as all blues and reds seemed to at this meeting, we get a practice with a track was that was so dusty making it hard to see and to get there cars around. I did wonder if they had a couple of speedway meetings during the week, as I have never seen it that dusty until now.

Heat One got under way looked strange as there was only one yellow roof and the rest all blues and reds, 77# Andy Owen seemed to be going well as did #280 Luke Stonehouse young #31Jowers was going well but  seemed to be finding it hard to keep a good line, but with a very dusty track it was not helping anyone none of the star men were making there way through the field  seemed all to be in a long  line #447 Smyth  did  try  going  on the  out  side  of #168 Sturt but soon as  you were off racing line the dust on track just made the  car push on to the wall. but as we all know Smyth normally makes the outside line work this time it didn’t pay off, Pat Smith #418 was black flagged for contact on #313 Bowring.  #152 Shaun Taylor was going well and who went on to take the win 1st #152 Taylor 2ND #280 Stonehouse and a close 3rd #77 Owen

Heat  Two was out on track green flag dropped this time there was a lot of pushing  going on at the front  of the blues  #31 Jowers #77 Owen and a few others  were finding it hard to keep in straight line when by this time Carter #500 was up with them went to go  down outside of  #77 Owen  when  Owen stepped out and Carter had no were to turn with #77 Owen with both drivers ending out and just sat there. After they all settled down #110 Kevin Wareham was on the bumper of our only yellow grader of the day #257 Ashley Brown but #257 Brown did well to keep young #31 Jower at bay yet again no red graders could not find there way through into the top five. As it’s always nice to see different winners with the star men finding it very hard this year as we have a lot of up and coming drivers all with good cars 1st #110 Wareham 2nd #257 Brown 3rd #31 Jowers.

Final I am sure many drivers were wondering what was best thing to do to with their cars to make it better on track as it seemed no one going anywhere, less contact was made no places were gained. As we got the final under way and star men was sure they be up by the end of this race as a few more laps ere added but the man on a move was #381 Pope it looked like he  jumped the start as he was away before the rest of   the cars moved but fair play to him as he was away and on the back of  the blues with in a lap the other one that was standing out #101 Bowring again there was lots of  bumping and boring going on all the way down the grid #381 Pope got himself up in the middle of the Pat Smith #418 was going well but had a black cross for making contact. Stuart Smyth #447 had a tie bar snapped and finding himself sat in the pit bend wall but by this time #101 having the lead with  #381Pope running out of laps to that a win. 1st Bowring 2nd #381 Mr Pope [our little  joke] and well driven #110 Wareham 3rd  he had some good results tonight

Our next meeting we will be  joining  Incarace for their MIDLAND CHAMPIONSHIP and to let all Spedeworth driver’s know this will count for points  for us and I would like to wish all driver’s the very best of  luck and may the best man win on the day

Hope to see you all there

IPSWICH 25TH MAY

#77 ANDREW OWEN WIN THE FINAL

We have had some great numbers in stock rods so far this year and this meeting was didn't disappoint with around 35 cars. After engine problems with his engine it was nice to see Mark Shinn #219 back, although we were missing some drivers due to them having received ban's after the last meeting at Aldershot #60, #194 and #14 .

Heat one got under way saw Stephen Phair #472 and Charlie Jowers #31 having  a great little battle, #288 Harry Palmer  seemed to be pushing hard on the back of Jowers and Phair  unfortunately there was some contact made as he passed them. Smyth#447 and Sturt #168 didn’t seem to be getting to grips with the newly laid tarmac, as many drivers were also finding it hard, it seemed like it was going to be low grade drivers who were to be taking the win from race one, as the star men were not finding their way through the field. The leader  #288 Palmer went on to take the win, but after the video was watched he was then docked two places for contact on the #472 Phair ending up with  1st  #471 Phair 2nd #31 Jowers and in  3rd #288 Palmer.

After talking to some of the drivers in the pits the comment was that the newly laid tarmac seemed to be knocking off some revs in the stock rod class but it is hoped that after it has been raced on more it will come good. This time saw young Matt Ovenden #4 on it from the off as also was  Jowers #31, #472 Phair didn’t seem to be going as well in this one and top men once more were racing there hearts out and making any ground up on the lower grade drivers. Carter #500 was one that seemed to be closing the gap on #171 Odell but was still a long way off of the leaders, #447 Smyth was not going like he normally does so he had problems Sturt #168 got himself up to Carter #500 but they were no where in it. Young Matt Ovenden#4 drove very well to hold off long time chaser #31 Jowers Coming up through the field #555 Lee Close but the laps running out for him, 1st  4 Ovenden, 2nd #31 Jowers and in 3rd #555 Lee Close.

Final  Young Charlie Jowers #31 was on it from the off giving all the yellow graders a good run for there money #472 Stephen Phair was the only one that seemed to be going with him but the man on the move was blue grader #77 Andy Owen coming up the field i don’t have know much about him although I know that he helps many drivers that live near him help them with there cars. Further down the field  saw #219 Shinn, Carter #500, Smyth#447 and Andy Sturt#168 in long line when Sturt and Smyth attempted to go around the outside Sturt then had a drive shaft go ending up with Shinn, Carter and Sturt hitting each other with #101 Bowring clipping Carters back end. which put most of them out of the race, up at the front #77 Owen takes the win and 2nd #31 Jowers and in 3rd #472 Phair.

ALDERSHOT MEETING SPONSORED BY RUNNING WHEELS #472 STEPHEN PHAIR TAKES THE FINAL WIN.

When pulling on to the track with the weather was that so bad with heavy rain that they were out on track sweeping as much of the water off, with 35 cars at the Aldershot raceway they were split into 2/3 rd heats with all cars to be out in final. I would like to say you to Simon Gade Stock Rod #36 of RUNNING WHEELS for there sponsorship for this meeting.

As heat one was out on track by this time the track was dry, the flag dropped #31 Jowers was away and pulled himself a nice lead when  his car started to miss fire ending  up with young Jowers #31 having to retire to the infield this let then Matt Ovenden #4 take up the lead with #288 Harry Palmer giving chase. Dropping from his superstar status  #171 Dean O Dell was off the from the front of reds and seemed to be the only red top  driver getting through the field #110 Kevin Wareham  got himself up in contention, although young Matt Ovenden #4 went on to take the win.

1st #4 Matt Ovenden, 2nd #288 Harry Palmer and a close 3rd #110 Kevin Wareham.

Next heat was sat waiting to come out onto the raceway when the rains came down making the track very slippery. This time long time racer #148 Wayne Shackleford (off the yellow grade) and was going very well from the start coping with the track conditions,  once again #288 Harry Palmer going well. Young #14 Gary Lusher found  himself under pressure  from the new comer to Stock Rods young #72 Jimmy Galloway (ex mini stock driver). The top  drivers were having no luck getting through the field as there seemed to only be one line around the Aldershot track for Stock Rods which it hard for them to overtake around here but sure it will come right in the end. #418 Smith, #168 Sturt, #318 Pope and #500 Carter were just in long line with no one going any where. Carters engine lost all power, as he was pulling off  he got spun around as they were all so close to  each other coming out bend. Back  up  the  front of the pack  #148 Wayne  Shackleford going very well and he went on to take a comfortable  win.

1st #148 Shackelford 2nd yet again #288 Palmer and in 3rd #72 Galloway.

Every one in the pits seemed to be saying that they can’t pass each other on track so all drivers getting up tight. Next heat out on track and young #14 Gary Lusher was on it from the off as  was  #148 Shackleford was coping  ok with the  track once again young #72 Galloway putting the pressure on the leading cars. Further down the field the only one to be making the any move was #171 O Dell off the front of reds who he seemed to be getting the best of the top boys as the others seemed to be finding it hard getting around here? Smyth#447, #194 Barnes, Carter #500 and so on were just in a long line going no where. The  yellow flags came out and I couldn’t see why some  drivers were in the wrong places when rejoining, the green flag dropped # 60 Daniel Rea and  #194 Barnes had a coming  together not sure why  this went on but #60 ending up in pit bend wall and being  pushed around  leaving his car in a right mess. Back to the lead car was #14 Lusher but not for long as #72 Galloway got underneath him and went on to take a win #171 was going well and got himself up to forth place but the laps ran out for him to reach the top three. 1st #72 Galloway 2nd #14 Lusher 3rd #148 Shackleford car #60 and 194 was both loaded and we await the out come of this for both  drivers.

 RUNNING WHEELS TROPHY FINAL

All cars out on track think we all new it was going to be hard for any driver behind a blue grade to be getting in the top three in this final. As the race got under way which saw  #472 Phair and Wayne Shackleford # 148 and young #31 Jowers were all having a close race when #148 Shackleford went spinning across infield and hitting the big concrete blocks making a right mess of Wayne’s car. I am sure Wayne was not to happy but as I didn’t see what went on as I was watching the star men trying  to  find there way through the pack Carter #500 started at back all meeting as he car was  shutting  down every now and then. at the front #72 Galloway came in to hard to pit bend hitting #36 Simon Gade and many other  cars round on pit bend #171 being one of them cars. Yet again #168 Sturt and #447 Smyth have a good battle but they both again were finding it very hard to make any ground up on leader. #168 got docked  two places for contact on #18 Meenehan then  #418 Smith having a black flag for taking  #101 Bowring out, #14 Lusher received the black flag as well but not sure why, up the front the battle was  still going on  and by this  time young Jowers #31 had caught # 472 Phair and went on to be a close finished for Phair but he managed to hold on to take his  first  final win  1st #472 Phair 2nd Jowers and in 3rd  #72 Galloway

Our next meeting is bank holiday Monday at Ipswich 25th may hope to see ya all there

Jane Carter.

ADR RACE PANELS SPONSORED STOCK ROD MEETING

I would like to thank ADR panels for their sponsorship for this meeting and hope you will continue this for next year.

42 cars were booked in but a few drivers didn’t turn up leaving us with about 37 cars but was still a great turn out. When drivers went to sign on they were then given the heats that they were out in.

Incarace driver #991 Matthew Smith made the trip which always nice to see different drivers.

As heat one got under way young Charlie Jowers #31 lead them off and seem to be going well, he seems to be having a good time of it over the last few meetings,  #8 Stuart Bibby was all over the back of Jowers and went on to take the lead. Further down the field Pat Smith #418 was on a mission from the off, Jason Picket was off the front of the blues, as Smith #418 was soon on him and in no time made his way past also #28 Thorndyke was going well in his Corsa. It was good to see Tony Barnes #194 back out after he drove all the way to Yarmouth last time and his engine let go. Bibby went on to take the win.

1ST Bibby, 2nd Jowers and getting himself in to 3rd Thorndyke.

Heat 2 this time young Matt Ovenden #4 was on it from his yellow grade going very well closely followed by Stephen Phair #472 and Luke Stonehouse #280. Jason Picket once again taking advantage of the blue grade start, giving chase the two that were on the move and having a great race were Pat Smith and Kim Carter #500 they were both pulling in Pickett  every lap but the laps ran out for both of them. Phair and Ovenden have both moved over to Spedeworth from RTS and both are becoming more and more on the pace Ovenden went onto to take the win.

1st Ovenden 2nd Phair 3rd Luke Stonehouse

Heat 3 The man that seemed to be on it once again was Bibby, he’s having a great run of wins at the moment, he was on it from the off. This time round Matt Woodcock #144 who seemed to be more on the pace was giving Bibby a good race, Star men were again having great battle with Carter #500 on the outside of #116 Michael Madden but not finding his way past when Smyth #447 and Sturt #168 were on him and Carter had to fall in line behind the other two star men Smyth and Sturt, but lucky for Carter he managed to get back under both to get back in his placing back that he lost. #87 Steven Abbott was going well giving #77 Andy Owen some good racing but cant take it away from the man on the move #8 Bibby he went on to take another  win.

1st Bibby, 2nd 114 Woodcock and in 3rd #77 Owen.

Final ADR Race Panels

I had Jason Picket 163 down for the win from the front of his blue grade and as he didn’t have many cars in front of him that would give him too much trouble but as the race got under way with young Matt Ovenden#4 and Phair #472 there was some contact on young Charlie Jowers #31,  Pickett was pushing hard on Ovenden to get underneath him, Steven Phair took the lead but would docked for contact on Jowers as was Ovenden, further down the field. The top drivers were having a hard time of it with many drivers receiving blue flags for many laps and not keeping there line. Pat Smith got underneath #28 Alan Thorndike when Thorndike came across Smith forcing him towards the infield lucky for Smith who got back on track Carter #500 made a brake  from the rest of pack until he came up to 101 John  Bowring ending up with the two of them having there own little battle. Barnes #194 made a brake from the pack and was around outside of  Carter when John Bowring hit the inside tires on the pit bend leaving Carter with no where to go with both ending up in pit gate (big shame for them) mean while Smyth and Sturt were finding it hard to pass #313 Jamie Bowring there was  some contact made ending up with Bowring being punted out and Sturt and Smyth going past, After a lot of docking the result was announced as 1st Picket #163   2nd  #194 Barnes and docked  to 3rd  after taking the win  3rd #472 Phair. Crash of the night went to #416 having a huge roll.
The next meeting for us will be Aldershot 17th May Polleysport /Yokohama Tires Series Round 4.

Hope to see you there

Jane Carter

WAYNE LEEDELL#91 RETURNS TO TAKE THE HONOURS IN EAST ANGLIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

33 cars were booked in for the East Anglian Championship; we were missing two or three drivers but still a great turn out of stock rods to be contesting the championship. The grid was drawn out the hat and it was run in 2/3 heats with the points that were scored gave you the grid position for the final.

Heat one saw #666 Paul Rice on poll with star man Andy Sturt#168 on outside poll. Rice got away to take the early lead  but would lose out early to Andy Sturt #168 and  Carter #500 who went on to pull a large gap  from the rest of the field, #313 Bowring was  going well in third place. Further down the field another star man Stuart Smyth #447 was finding it hard to get through field. Carter #500, Sturty#168 had close racing, as well  was some close racing  going on further down field from  #115 John Madden #829 Stuart Fox (it’s always good to see Stuart Fox down racing with us and hope to see him more as it’s always nice to have visiting  drivers) 1st #168 Andy Sturt  2nd #500 Kim Carter and  in 3rd #313 Jamie Bowring .

Next  heat  was out  on  track this  time  Jason Pickett #163 took the lead but with  in  a few laps saw #418 Pat Smith pressuring Pickett #163 forcing Pickett to go wide and   Smith took the lead then pulled  himself  a larger lead, #171 Den O Dell,  #144 Matt Woodcock and Carl- Waller Barrett were  all having a  great race, as young Mark Shinn #219 had engine problems and  found himself  flat out in the pits putting his dads  spare engine in .#168 Andy  Sturt done well to get him self  up  to 7th place from  way down the field  but no one  could not match #418 Pat Smith.

1st #418 Pat Smith 2nd Jason Pickett and coming home in 3RD #91 Wayne Leedell

Last heat  before the final  was out  on  track we were waiting for a bit  before we  got under way as  #152 Shaun Taylor  was  still working on his car he had  snapped  his  steering  rack and drive shaft,  we also saw  young Mark Shinn #219  going  around  and  around  the  track as he had no  gears  so  could  not stop and had  to start  off the  back  race  got  under way Carl Waller Barret #162 had a line of  cars behind  him  all waiting  for #115 John Madden to make  his way past he managed  just  to get  underneath  him when #162 came across him ending up with Carl Waller Barret #162 over the  tires and on the infield. This  then let  #91 Wayne Leedeell  get  to the front of the pack with John Madden#115  with his brother #116 Rusty Madden pushing his  brother all the way. Pat Smith #418 did really well to get himself  up  to 4th as did  #171 O Dell  and #500 Carter getting  up in to sixth.

East Anglian Championship final

#91 Wayne Leedell was on poll with Pat Smith #418 on the outside poll, then local  driver #115 John Madden with star man Andy Sturt #168  as the race got under way  when 313 Jamie Bowring clipping the fence  yellows came out when two lead  cars just  missed Bowrings  car . Leedeell is no  stranger to this  Yarmouth track and was making Pat Smith #418 work very hard to   keep with him, # 500 Carter car went wide on the pit  bend when Jason  Pickett  came in  hard and made up a place #168 Andy Sturt was trying very  hard  to find his way  around the outside of #115 Madden as the  front two Leedell #91 Smith#418 were getting away. Carter  got himself  going  and  passed #163 Picket to give chase to  Madden and Sturt  but  time was running  out for Sturt and Carter as the laps were rolling down Carter finaly got  himself  past  Sturt in the last few  laps but  neither of them were  to pass #115 Madden. The  battle at the front was a  great race from both  drivers 1st Wayne Leedell in 2nd pushing  himself  all the way Pat Smith #418  and in 3rd #115 Madden followed  home by  Carter #500 then Sturt #168.

The Stock rods seem to be having a great boom in numbers, lets keep this up great racing by all. Next  meeting is Wimbledon 3rd again I here we have a  big  field of  stock rods  for this  one so another one not to miss see you all there.

GRIMLEY STOCK RODS EASTER MONDAY APRIL 13TH 2009

HEAT 1

Nathan Rees was the early race leader with a healthy lead but unfortunately lost a lot of time trying to lap the back markers allowing second place man Max Lewis to find a gap and nip through to take the win ahead of Nathan who came through to take second.

HEAT 2

The pace was a lot quicker in the second heat with newcomer Simon Martin Jnr. Driving a superb race holding onto first from start to finish with Adam Proudman  and Steve Levell both new to this formula battling hard for second place.

FINAL

The Final was a very fast and entertaining race where everyone had the opportunity to take the win. Simon Martin Jnr. Led the majority of the race but as Max Lewis and Nathan Rees battled from the back of the grid, Simon Martin jnr. Experienced mechanical problems whilst resulted in him needing to pull off, allowing Max Lewis to take up the lead but within a few laps he also lost drive letting Simon Martin Snr. Through to take the win from a very close Nathan Rees in second.

ARLINGTON 13TH APR

#8 Stuart Bibby takes honours in the ADRIAN TILLMAM TROPHY

26 cars turned up for the Adrian Tillman Trophy. Adrian has been sadly missed by all so this tribute meeting mean a lot to all drivers especially those who knew him. It’s always good to long distance travellers so it was nice to see Dave philp#29 all the way from Scotland. The weather was nice all  day although the track was very dusty but all drivers seemed to be coping very well, Heat one got under away young Matt Ovenden #4 and #31 Charlie Jowers were  having there own  battle and were matching each other move for move, when they both made contact with  each other. Stuart Bibby #8 was taking  full advantage of his new yellow roof status was going really well, the man on the move #280 Luke Stonehouse, when the yellow flags came out as  #148 Wayne Shackleford and  #288 Palmer had a coming together ending up with #288 Palmer hitting the pit bend wall. On the restart flags Carter #500 was on it from the off and making his way up the field, as well as #’447 Smyth and #168 Sturt. Back at the  front young Matt Ovenden #4 took the win  but was then docked for contact on #31 Jowers handing the win to #280 Luke Stonehouse, 2nd #8 Stuart Bibby and  3rd  Matt Ovenden

Heat two under way this time saw #472 Stephen Phair on it from  the off with #4 Matt Ovenden giving chase. Jason  Pickett  #163 was making his way through the field although 29#Dave Philip was not having  the best of meetings (I know Dave has only  been to Eastbourne once before this time  and that the car was not in his own) Smyth #447, Sturt #168 ands Carter #500 were all battling when Philip #29 came in hard into  the pit bend taking Carter #500 around   coming out pit bend ending up with Carter  retiring to the infield. Most of the drivers  seemed to be coping really well  around the   Eastbourne track although the star men were finding it very hard to get up into the top ten, Andy Sturt #168 is very well known   for taking many wins here but this was not  going to happen in this one as #472 Phair keep his cool and went on to take an easy win yet again Matt Ovebden #4  and  making  it into  2nd place  with Jason Picket#163 making his way to 3rd .

Final Adrian Tillman Trophy

The man that got a greatest start #8 Stuart Bibby he was going very well as was #148 Wayne Shackleford  and #31 Charlie Jowers the two of them were having a great  race from the off, Matt Ovenden #4 once  again was pushing forward and getting on the end of  Shackleford #148 and Jowers #31. Simon Gade #36 was going well when he had a drive shaft let go sending him around on the pit bend, further down the field were Sturt, Smyth and Carter as they were all having a great battles as they all change places many times during the race it was good to see them having some good close racing from all three of them. The man of the day went to Stuart Bibby #8 making this was a great day for him as he went onto win this. I do believe Stuart and Adrian were very good friends so big well done I am sure Adrian would be very  happy with  Stuart taking the win and in 2nd Charlie Jowers with  3rd placed Wayne Shackle ford #148 all in all a very good  days racing hope to see you all at  Yarmouth 26th April for the East Anglian Championship.

Swaffham 29th March 2009

12 cars turned up for the first meeting of the new season, it is nice to see some new cars and drivers out there and when the half a dozen more of the regulars from last season come over as they have promised it will make some good numbers on the track.

Race 1;

#188 Mike Cunningham led them away from the White grade for a couple of laps before #368 Joe Smith caught and passed him followed by #17 Micheal Benstead. From the back #83 Scott Apprigliano picked his way trough the rest of the field followed closely by #704 Robin Cowles.
#199 Mark Shinn snr was parked up along the home straight with first meeting gremlins and #91 Wayne Leedell was having trouble with his gears only being able to get round in 4th gear.
Back up front #17 takes up the lead followed by #83 who made a costly mistake on the pits bend allowing #704 and #368 to get through and that's how they finished #17 1st #704 2nd and #368 3rd

Race 2;

From the off #368 got passed #188 quicker this time and pulled a good lead #91 has sorted his gears out and was heading the pack from the back while poor ole #199 was spectating from the pits bend still with his gremlins. #17 started to gain on #368 over the next few laps while on the pits bend #704 spins out #188 resulting in a black flag for #704. Back to the front and #17 makes his way into the lead with #91 working his way up to third, unfortunately #704 ignored the black flags shown to him several times and was told to load up for the rest of the day, race finished with #17 taking the win #368 2nd and #91 3rd

Final;

As in the heats #188 and #368 swapped places after a couple of laps with #17 charging hard looking for a hat-trick of wins also charging hard was #91 who made his way up to third and #83 who was up to fifth and at last #199 was on the move in fourth after a near rebuild in the pits only to find a dodgy cut off key. It looked like the race was going to finish in this order but on the penultimate lap the leaders had a bit of a skirmish while passing the back markers which allowed #91 to sneak through into the lead where he wasn't going to be caught, race finished #91 1st #17 2nd and #368 3rd

Next meeting is April 26th where hopefully the promise of some more cars will be fulfilled
and the good racing will continue..........

YARMOUTH 29TH POLLEYSPORT/YOKOHAMA TYRE SERIES ROUND 3

Once again a great turn out of stock rods with the weather nice, a few drivers made the long trip in the shape of Pat Smith 418 from High Wycombe, Kim Carter #500 from Southampton. It was good to see young Jimmy Galloway #72 there as he had raced at Birmingham on the Saturday night before, so I was informed. It was also nice to see that Yarmouth Stadium had put some new steps from pits to the race track. Stuart Smyth was there but not racing he made the trip with Stephen Phair #472 from Uxbridge so he was on the spanners all night.

Again we had split heats race and as heat one got underway the track seemed very dusty as many cars  were side ways out of the pit bend, Steven Riches   seemed to be coping  well and in no time took the  lead. Shaun Taylor #152 and young Jimmy Galloway #72 were having a good battle and there was some contact between them, further down the field Pat Smith #418, Carter #500 and Jamie Bowring #313 with the rest of field in one long line Carter found himself on out side and did manage to get back in when he was just clipped by  #313 Jamie Bowring  sending him onto the infield. The first three cars at the front #152 Taylor made his way pass #74 Riches as did #72 Galloway, but young Galloway could not find his way past Taylor.

 1st #152 Taylor, 2nd #72 Galloway, 3rd #74 Riches.

Fast lap was set by Kim Carter #500

Race two got under way Gavin Pike 514 went off from the front Gavin has only done a few meetings and he seemed to be really enjoying himself, but as the green flag dropped Pike #514 exhaust came off and in no time was black flagged, Carl Waller Barrett #162 was pushing hard from his blue grade, Steven Abbott #87 was making his way up through the field #14 Gary Lusher found himself in the fence (talking to Gary he said his car just pulled him in) which brought the reds out. On the restart Waller Barrett was on it with an open track in front of him, the only car that was getting near him was Steven Abbott bringing Michael Madden #116 with the rest of the field a long way down. Carl Waller Barrett was well out in the lead which meant no one was going to take this win away from him.

 1st #162 Waller Barrett, 2nd #87 Abbott, 3rd #116 Madden.

Fast lap was set by #116 Madden.

Race three got underway and yet again #162 Waller Barrett on it and in no time he was again in the lead this time, Carter was on the move and coming up field. #38 Scott Billman was going well and trying to keep on terms with Waller Barrett. From his red grade Carter was pressuring both of them; Carter got under Billman then gave chase to Waller Barrett and passed him to take his first victory for some time.

1st Carter #500, 2nd Waller Barrett #162, 3rd Billman #38

Final all  car’s were out in grid order, Carter found himself on the out side of Pat Smith #418 but they then made Carter move to the back of the reds. Carl Waller Barrett was in the lead in no time from his blue roof status, it took a few laps for all the cars to settle. The man on the move up the pack was Carter he was having a great race with John Madden #115, Shaun Taylor then had a coming together with Pat Smith Jnr; Smith then received a black flag. Carter got himself up to second place but there was no way he could of pulled in Carl Waller Barrett as by this time he had himself a large lead.

1st #162 Waller Barrett, 2nd #500 Carter, 3rd #115 Madden.

Hope to see you all at Arlington Raceway on the 13th April for the much missed Adrian Tillman Trophy.

Jane Carter.

40 Stock Rods for the first meeting @ Ipswich with Pat Smith taking the final honours.

There where a few new drivers turn up for the first meeting at Ipswich on 21st March, with young lady driver out for her first time Louise Hodges #142 along with Thomas Hunter #416 Andrew Moore # 415. Scott Billman #38 and Nick Campbell #99 both returned to stock rods after a lay off and also making the return was young Mark Shinn Jnr #219 in his newly turned out car after having a huge crash last year at Yarmouth. This meeting was round 2 of the Polley/Yokohama Tyres series and also Co sponsored by Nick Ovenden Plant Hire. Around 40 cars turned up so we had split heats.

As heat one got under way young Galloway #72 was on it from the off, Stuart Bibby #8 seemed to be going well as was Pat Smith #418. Pat was down graded from red to blue so he found his way up the pack, Smyth #447 and #194 Tony Barnes had a coming  together from where I was, it looked like Barnes had a driveshaft  go. Carter #500 and O’Dell#171 were finding  it harder to get up the field , Young Galloway had a large lead and no one was  going  to take this win from  him 1st  Galloway 2nd Bibby and in 3rd Pat Smith .Best lap time in this  race was set by Dean O’Dell.

Heat two was out on track and in no time Gavin Pike #514 made his way to the front of the pack. #168 Andy Sturt’s car had a very bad misfire you could see flames out of the exhaust .But the man on the move was again #418 Pat  Smith he was on it from the off and was  giving chase to young Matt Ovenden #4.  Matt has not  long joined Spedeworth  and doing well. #101 John Bowring was coming through the field and seemed to be going well #168 Andy Sturt retired as did #14 Gary Lusher , #148 Wayne Shackleford. Top drivers again seemed to be finding it hard getting up and into the top ten. Pat Smith managed to find his way passed Ovenden to go on to take the win. 1st #418 Smith  2nd Ovenden and in 3rd #101 John Bowring. Best lap time in this race was #152 Shaun Taylor

Heat three got under way young Jimmy Galloway #72 was on it  from the front of white grade. This time we had #472 Stephen Phair, another driver that  came back to Spedeworth from Ringwood and RTS, so was nice  to see him back mixing it with the  Spedeworth drivers he was giving  chase  to  young Galloway  as was #4 Matt Ovenden,  #36 Simon Gade was going well  from his new blue roof  status as was #163 Jason Pickett. Jason has been having a good run of wins as of late and getting in top 5 the last few meetings so he is having some good results. Gade was giving him a great race. Carter found his way through the reds to find himself on the bumper of them both and made the move down the out side.  Smyth was making progress up the field, Sturt still had misfire so his night was not  getting any better .1st  Jimmy Galloway#72  2nd Stephen Phair  #472 and coming  home in 3rd Matt Ovenden #4.

Best lap time in this race was John Madden#115

For the final all cars were out on track as all eyes were on starter then when green flag went out Richard Pope #381 didn’t get going which brought the reds out straight away but Paul Frost #316 ran straight into back of Pope’s car (should have gone to specsavers) making a right mess of his and Pope’s car. Race got back under way and Pat Smith from lap one as he was soon on the bumper of Matt Ovenden and in no time and took the lead and pulled away. This time Andy Sturt’s misfire was sorted so we were back seeing the usual battle between Sturt and Smyth but they both were not going to be within a top finish as the lower grade drivers seemed to all be going very well. Back to front runners Pat Smith took what was basically a flag to flag victory, Matt Ovenden had to fight off Jason Pickett to keep second place. Jason Pickett finished third.

We would like to thank Ovenden Plant Hire for sponsoring this meetings trophy.

Hope to see you all at Yarmouth on the 29th March.

Jane Carter.

NORTHAMPTON RACEWAY 8TH MARCH 2009

A great turn out of cars for the grand season opener at Northampton raceway with 40 Stock Rods; Spedeworth drivers were getting home points for this meeting so this made a large part of the field up. It was nice  to see one driver back out after a long lay off from racing after having a very bad crash a year ago all the way from Scotland #612 Leon Stewart and  also always nice to see #17 Robert McDonald. Weather seemed to be ok until the Stock Rods lined up for practice then the heavens opened up Smyth#447, Galloway #72 and Carter#500 seemed to leave the field, all looked to be going well but as the track was changing all the time we had split heats with this amount of cars as heat one  got underway and young #72 Galloway off white’s was going very well, he has just come up to Stock Rods from mini stocks so we would like to wish him the best of luck .It seemed to be that it was only the low grader’s that were to do anything only top men that did move forward was Incarace top man Mark Barber #755 and Stuart Smyth#447 from Spedeworth who seemed to be finding it hard to get up pack which is unlike him, he got hit in the back of  his car and then had a misfire, Carter was going ok until his off on switch was hit and killed all power after having a coming together. Back at the front runners saw #72 take the lead and keep it to take the win.1st #72 Galloway gives chase to him saw #838 Huckle taking 2nd and in 3rd #25 Martin.

Heat two got under way this time saw another  ex mini stock driver young Jowers #31 on a mission from his white grade as he was driving well and found himself a nice lead with the only man that I could see making progress through the field was  #755 Barber he was  going well #148 Wayne  Shackleford seemed to be coping well with the track conditions as did Simon Gade #36 Smyth found himself on the infield again with his misfire which was so bad just not his day sure we see him bad in his winning  ways by next meeting .1st  #31 Jowers 2nd #755 Baber and in the placing again 3rd #838 Huckle

Heat three all drivers got out on track when we had rain then sleet then driving snow it was so bad that we could not see the track were it was blowing so bad in every one faces but they finally did get underway and they all coped very well as the weather which was so bad #17McDonald was going well as was #60 Daniel Rea but yet again we saw the young Jowers #31 going very well #72 was on a mission but was black flagged for contact. but to be fair weather was so bad they all did well to keep there cars on track 1ST #31 Jowers  2nd #829 Harrison and 3rd #998 Greene.

Final #163 Pickett was take the lead in no time the man of the race for me was young Lusher #14 as he was all over the back of Pickett his driving was really good as he has only been in Stock Rods a year and he was giving Pickett a good race they had pulled a large gap on the rest of the field young Jower#31 had a coming together  with  #17 McDonald sending McDonald the wrong way to the wall so hope his was car ok but know one was  going to get to the two front runners  Picket  finally went on to take the  win. 1st #163 Jason Pickett 2nd #14 Garry Lusher and in 3rd #998 Greene. Spedeworth’s next meeting is Ipswich 21st of March so hope again we have a great turn out of cars for that one to see you all there for another great Stock Rod meeting

OPEN PRACTICE NIGHT AT FOXHALL STADIUM

Only had a few Stock Rods  turned out for the open practice night, Kim carter #500 was out in his revamped Stock Rod done by FG RACE FABS but due to the engine letting go in lap  eight ended his night. A young Matt Oventen #4 going really well Matt who has just joined us  from RTS so like to wish  him all the luck in joining Spedeworth and I’m sure he is going to be a driver for top boys to have some good racing with. Also we had a  young lady driver out in a new Stock  Rod in shape of Louise Hodges #142 which was Louise first time out  and she seem very happy with how her car was feeling. #152 Shaun Taylor was out he seem to be going well as was #280 Luke Stonehouse he seemed to be the fastest of them looking on my laps so sure Shaun was happy with his car #99 Nick Campbell only done one run as he had problem with the header water tank there were a lot of people there watching so much like a race night as the bar and food out lets were open. we are at Northampton this Sunday this  meeting is a points meeting  for  all spedeworth drivers and see the booking  list  we have 40 cars so going to be a great meeting  for Stock  Rod  fans so do all come along wish all 40  drivers the best of luck

Wimbledon 1st February ….Snow Joke

A great turn out of 33 stock rods made there way to the Wimbledon stadium and  had a few new drivers which is always good for any formula. Jowers #31 Galloway #72 with two new drivers who came over from RTS were Phair #472 and young Matt Ovenden #4 I  have also been told that we  have a lady driver  making her debut at the first  meeting at Ipswich on the 21st march #142 Louise Hodges I would like to wish her all the best of luck.

One other driver which was nice to see back was #316 Paul Frost after his spell off for being a bad boy so sure we will see him on the  pace  car in  2009 .#28 Alan Thorndyke was out in a very nice new corsa, #514 Gavin {one  eye} Pike back out racing with us after his break from racing. Race one got under way and which saw newcomer #31 taking his first spin in stock rods Galloway #72 seem to be holding his line well. Jason Pickett#163 was also going well in his new  turned out nova and making the most of his blue grade grabbing front row before the new comers new it #163 Pickett was on them further down the field Carter #500 Smyth #447 and Sturt #168 these men very rarely miss a meeting and  always put a good  show on for us. Carter #500 was  on the  bumper of Tony Pickett #264 when they had a coming  together on the  pit bend  sending Pickett round, by this time fast flying Smyth and Sturt were on Carters bumper Smyth then found his way past as  did Sturt they then came to #148 Wayne Shackleford, Sturt was trying to find his way pass when they had a coming  together ending Sturt’s  race. Back up at the front no one was going to take this one away from Jason Pickett #163 he took the first win for  2009  in the stock rods  2nd #162 Carl Waller Barrett 3rd  # 418 Pat Smith

The snow started to fall while stock rods were in pits  when it was time for them  to  come out on track it was  just a white blizzard race got under way in no time  the weather took its first victim Tony Pickett #264 found himself in the Wimbledon fence the yellows came out then went red there was some confusion of the placings for the restart but by the time they have sorted  this the snow came down and you could not see across the track race got under way many cars  pulled off as they could not see and  track conditions were atrocious. The race went into slow motion I am sure that we could have walked faster. but you cant  take it away from the boys that stayed out to try and entertain us with #213 Moreton taking the win 2nd #144 Matthew Woodcock 3rd #447 Smyth

Out in the pits many drivers were worried there cars would get damage as the track was not good with the falling of the snow. After all many drivers have spent time and money getting there cars ready for the 2009 season

Only 12 cars braved it out for final as many drivers were worried about getting home as snow just did not let up. The track was like a ice rink as the cars were going round very slowly you could say walking place but Sturt, Smyth, Gade and O’Dell went into the fence bringing the reds out #447 #171 both got black flag  for moving on a red flag and the rest of the  cars were still going  around at walking  pace #213 Graham Moreton who has many years as a stock rod driver and coped the best in this ice  taking himself to another win 2nd #60 Daniel Rea and  new the comer #31 Jowers in 3rd  he must of been happy with that for his  first meeting getting in top 3 finish. It was great to see so many stock turn up for the first meeting. Let’s keep this up all year and have some great racing. Don’t forget that we have a practice night at Foxhall Stadium on the 28th Feb. All drivers will need to book in for this. If we don’t see you there hope to see you all on the 8th March at Northampton as this is a points meeting for all Spedeworth drivers.
