The homebrew cobwebb worked
very well! |
If we have spoken, it may have
been using this dipole! |

'shack' - June 08
My primary HF radio is a FlexRadio SDR-1000, for mobile or reference I use an Icom IC-7000. These are interesting high performance radios and you can read about the 'journey so far' and getting the story behind the picture shown above and where it has led, by following this link.
My VHF / UHF Antenna:
For VHF & UHF I use a 2M/70cms Homebrew vertical dipole and I have played with 70cms Moxon rectangles made out of coat hangers! The vertical dipole gives me as good results as W-30 co-linear but cost only a few pence to make. It is also amazingly stealthy - you can see some pictures of it by clicking here. For HF 'itchy' best describes my set-up. Have a read below..........
I have a very small back garden (measuring approx. 25ft X 30ft, although I have a run of 88ft from front driveway to back yard fence) and am limited with what type of antenna I can use. I started playing with longwires and an MJF tuner. I was not particularly happy with the consistency of the MFJ product and eventually bought an SGC Tuner. This is a good product providing coverage from 160m thru to 6m using the coupler. Late in 2004 I experimented with Moxon Rectangles. I am very impressed with this antenna - even with it only 15 feet high I have managed contacts as far afield as Argentina, South Africa and the Sudan. Here is a link to my Moxon page where I have noted construction details. Here is a very good link to the Moxon antenna project web site for those who would like to try building a Moxon rectangle. I sometimes use a homebrew Folded dipole style antenna resulting in many contacts (Sometimes referred to as a Cobwebb). You can follow this link to the page where I have detailed the Folded dipole construction notes. I use a High Sierra Sidekick for mobile use, you may read my review of this antenna and see installation pictures by following this link. In November 2006 I used a multiband dipole tuned with the SGC tuner and got great results or a 40ft random wire vertical matched using a Palstar AT1500DT, and even a 70ft length of wire that looped around the back garden sitting on top of the 5 ft high fence. This wire worked remarkably well for the LF bands and inter-UK stations. Right now (June 2008) I am using a Cobra UltraLight Senior multi-band dipole fed using ladder line.

My QSL card if we talk along with the likelihood of doing so.............

Don't you just love antennas! |

I always send QSL cards via the Bureau, please send me one back via the bureau or direct. I collect cards and it proves to my other half that I have actually been playing with the radio!! Hi Hi |
