Welcome!
Hello and welcome to my site! If you collect circulation coins, or just want to know more about circulation coins then you've come to the right place. This is a very new site and nowhere near complete, but it is coming along fast so I hope it is of some use now, and you'll come back soon!
What is this site all about then?
I collect coins, and this is my collection, or rather it will be when finished. This site aims to be a resource for people interested in knowing a little more about the coins they may have collected, be they some coins your grandma brought back from holiday once, some old coins grandad found in the attic, or even a precious gold coin bought only yesterday. Most coins have a story behind them and they don't have to be valuable or rare to be interesting.
Where are the proof coins then?
There not here. I consider proof coins relatively boring. That's not to say anyone is wrong to collect them, they are by far the more valuable, but in my mind they are somewhat fake. The thing is proof coins are produced purely for collectors to collect. Only a few are made simply to inflate their value, in much the same way as the shiney football stickers were when you were a kid (or rare cigerette cards for the older readers :-) ). Having said that there are one or two proof coins around on this site, as I would be a fool to turn a proof down if given a good offer. However, they tend not to stay part of my collection indefinately.
Surely bullion coins aren't circulation?
Well, yes and no. Modern gold and silver coins don't get circulated like ordinary change, they do have a function though. Proof coins and off metal strikes (ordinary coins done in gold/silver) are collectors items only. On my bullion pages you will find coins such as sovereigns, krugerrands, britannia's and american eagles. These are all coins used by commodities investors to buy precious metals.
So what sort of collectors is this site for?
The sort of collectors that everyone has a fad for. The people who save the coins when they go abroad, or the people who have kept those old coins from before decimalisation. Particularly the people who collect coins not to make money, but just for interest sake.
I started collecting coins when I was little, when on holiday abroad I would try save one of each coin, as I got older I forgot about these coins I save, until one day I returned to them. Since then I've been hooked collecting small change from around the world. Every coin is different and every coin has a story behind it. As I find more about each coin I'll put it on here.
Where can I buy coins?
There are many coin shops around the country, but expect to pay over the odds at most of them. Personally I recommend auctions, to look for some bargains right away try eBid. eBid is a FREE online auction, like eBay but with much better customer service, and its free so you get much better deals for sellers and buyers. Some of the coins on this site are up for auction at eBid:
