Vanuatu is an 83 island archipelago country in the South-West Pacific Ocean, between New Zealand and the Fiji Islands. It has a tropical climate and active volcanoes. Its main productions are manganese ore, copra and tuna, but it also benefits from a steady tourist industry. An anglo-french colony was establish in 1906 and it became in independant state in 1980, when it adopted its current flag. It is a British Commonwealth member.

This is a remarkably detailed coin, the obverse showing a large sea shell. The reverse shows some kind of aborigine or native. Below his feet are the words "Long God Yumi Stanap", which I guess is in Bislamic, but I do not know the translation.
