Beamers A v Sharp Shooters 2

Again due to us having only 5 players we had to call upon the services of Marie and Anne-Marie from the B team and Lorraine from Panthers. We had to change positions around again so Marie played WA, Anne-Marie played WD, Lorraine played GK, Marcia played GD and Raslin played C.

We were in position on Court when Clair shouted “is that Amy?” and low and behold it was our Amy running along tugging her suitcase behind her.  By the time she reached the Court and got changed into her kit the game had commenced and yet again, she had to disappointedly wait until the end of the first half.

We lost the toss and RCPO had the first centre.  They were not able to capitalise on it and it resulted in us scoring the first goal, and the next, and the next and so it went on.  After a while when the score reached about 7:0 to us, RCPO’s C, the GD and GK were in disbelief and had a defeated look about them but they still managed to laugh at the brilliant onslaught of goals raining down on them.

When the ball made it down to RCPO goal circle, the GS was hell bent on getting the ball at all cost, which resulted in Lorraine being knocked to the floor as the GS went charging into her.  We were all looking for the umpire to call for contact, but she didn’t.  After that Lorraine was a bit tentative when marking the GS for fear of being knocked out next time.

After half time, Amy was able to join the game (thanks to Anne-Marie for filling in for her) and again went all out to make up for lost time.  RCPO began to get some goals and a big cheer went up when they got the first one.

Everyone played really well and the game finished with a magnificent score of 43:10 to Beamers A.

A massive thanks goes out to Marie, Anne-Marie and Lorraine for filling in for us and congratulations to Marie for being rewarded Player of the Match.

Unfortunately due to situations beyond their control, both our GA and WD were unable to attend this match.  Luckily Abi, our resident WA was back from her Honeymoon thus freeing up Anne to play WD, Raslin stepped in to play GA and we borrowed Bev from Home Office to play GD.

The game started very scrappy with a lot of bad passes and dropped balls from both teams, which resulted in a lot of shouting and screaming from us to sort ourselves out.  A few centre passes came and went without any goals being scored but eventually Raslin managed to put one in.  It was a very unusual game for us as for some reason all centre court players were bunching all on the same side and seemed to have difficulty finding their spaces.  This left Raslin having to go deep into the centre third to help bring the ball down.  Our shooting had settled down by this time and we started to run away with the goals.  At half time the score was 10:1 to us.

We gathered together at half time and discussed slowing our game down, the sequence to bring the ball down and to basically play our game of netball.  Well, I don’t know what happened because we went back on court and done exactly the same foolishness we did in the first half and to a certain degree, played even worse.  Once again, bad passes led to the ball being thrown off court and balls were not being caught.  A couple of times, from a back line pass, Marcia was desperate to find someone to pass the ball to as everyone was running away, and not coming forward for the pass.  Bev played a brilliant GD but when doubled marked, everyone else seemed lost.  Well by this time Raslin was tearing out what little hair she has left, screaming to high heaven and once again having to play real deep to get the ball up.  We lost a lot of passes through Abi not catching the ball, but this was her first game since April so we had to be gentle with her J

Everyone played really well defensively with Anne/Marcia/Bev/Raslin and Lorraine making some brilliant interceptions but attacking wise we played, in my opinion, our worse game ever.  We weren’t able to score as many goals in the second half but the game finished 16:5 to Beamers A.  Thanks to Bev for helping out and congratulations to Marcia for being awarded Player of the Match.

Beamers A v All Sorts                                                    14 JUNE 2007

Where can I start with this game, All Sorts were about 10 minutes late. Amy was actually on time, I mean at least 10 minutes early (Well done Amy).  The game started off a bit scrappy. All the mid court players were all bunching and the passing was very loopy.  I was playing GS with Claire.

I enjoyed it, but did not do much (hahaha), my damn shots was not going in (silly ball). Abi was rotating with Claire to come out for centre passes, then I might come out and we would just rotate every so often.   As my keeper followed me everywhere (bless her) I would come out just to get into the game and then feed Claire that worked well down our end.

At half time the score was 23 – 2 to us, so the defence was working very well (Marcia (GK) and Amy (GD).  Amy had a team talk at half time to tell them to stop rushing and bunching, we have 3 secs with the ball use the time.  When we started, the second half it worked a lot better some of my fewer shots that I took went in but Claire scored majority (well done Claire), well that is why she is shooter, but I was actually just feeding her, and it worked nicely.

The overall score was 33 – 3 to Beamers A, but if all my shots went in we might have been able to hit the 40 mark.

When I asked the new umpire for best player she did originally chose me, but as I told her I could not be picked (boo hoo) she chose Claire.

Beamers A v MOD                                                                       21 June 2007 @ 19.30

Due to our Goal Shooter being on a sunny holiday, and our normal WD being away, we only had five players. We managed to borrow Lorraine McLeod from Panthers who played GD, and Sian Priest from Sharp Shooters to play WD.   We would normally ask our B team to help out but they were actually playing at the same time.  The game was being played quite well but rushed within the attacking half; I was feeding Claire the ball very hastily in the first half, where Lorraine M kept shouting to stop rushing the game. I forgot to mention that this week my shots were going in. Marcia was playing well defensively with Lorraine although sometimes her back was turn to the game.  Our players were very quiet vocally on court, which is not like them, or I was just making too much noise.  Lorraine W our centre was making some brilliant interceptions within mid-court with Sian and bringing the ball down nicely.  Ann H was playing WA but I am sure she wanted to play shooter, as she was standing at the top of the circle, going to feed me the ball, but instead she was shooting goals.   The first time it missed and it hit the back of the post, then the second time she actually scored a goal, but the umpire disallowed the goal and gave MOD the back line pass.  It was not long before we got it back, and the actual shooters scored the goal. Claire and I worked well in the circle as we were never in each other’s space. I occasionally took my GK out of the circle so that Clair just ran in and took the shots.

At half time the score was 23 – 5, Lorraine M, did a team talk where she told us to stop rushing the game and panicking with the ball.

When we went on the second half, the game was more controlled, everyone was finding their space.  Defence was working hard and made many interceptions within their half.  I was coming out for the second pass and feed Claire the third pass into the circle, which, worked well.

With the teams’ effort and our two fill-ins, Lorraine McLeod and Sian Priest, thank you for your help, we won the game 40 – 9. Claire was nominated with Player of the Match.
