Report on the International Games

On the 17 May 2007 a group of us attended the International Netball games, which were held in Earls Court.  The games that we watched were England A v New Zealand and England v Australia.

As we were watching the teams do their warm-ups, I was quite amazed on how they made it look so easy, on how to catch the ball in mid air, and passing the ball to their player.

When the first game began between England A and New Zealand, both teams looked very nervous for the first few minutes, then New Zealand started pulling away.  England A, was passing the ball well with about 80% pass completion, but they were not making any interceptions against New Zealand.  Even though each individual player had their own skill and talent, they did not use it in full force.    We were quite disappointed with England A game play as there was nothing going on the court, i.e. no interceptions, some passing was inaccurate and the defence was not stopping the shooters. England A started to catch up a little but left it too late.   The final score for this game was New Zealand 66 – England A 45.

Now the second game between England v Australia was guaranteed, a very good game. This game was neck and neck all the way. The passing completion was accurate, a lot of interceptions through both teams. You could not blink otherwise you would have missed something. The game play was so fast, through the whole time and at half time the scores were 22 – 22.  Both teams were determined to win.  England put up a good fight against Australia throughout the game.  The final score for this game was Australia 42 – England 47.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the games and it was a good experience for those who attended that have not seen a live netball match before to see the best teams in the world in action.
