These are my specialised horses, each based on toy catalogue illustrations
or museum pieces. These horses would therefore suit a miniature enthusiast
looking
for something just a little more unique for their collection.
-
German bow rocker circa 1831. Originally this type of horse would
have been skin covered (which was favoured by the Europeans) but it is recreated here
in a faux skin paint finish. Leather bridle and saddle with silver stirrups. Approx
size in inches 6 x 4 ½.
- American swinging horse circa 1887. Based
on Crandall and Snyder's invention. Primitive style and paintwork. Shown here
in a distressed and 'well used' condition. It has leather ears, bridle and a dual coloured
leather saddle. The horse also has brass pinning and decorative brass studs on the saddle
and bridle. The stand has turned posts and a bevel edged base.
Approx. size
in inches - 5 x 4 ½.
- English board sided horse circa 1610.
Based on the remains of a horse reputed to have belonged to King Charles I as a boy. The
original piece had most of the head and legs missing, but here they are reinstated
('artistic licence') for a more complete model! However, the horse is finished in an extremely
aged and distressed condition.
Approx. size in inches - 3 ½ x 2 ¾.
- Board sided rocking horse dating from the 19th century.
Example shown is painted in a distressed finish with a leather seat, painted
bridle, wooden hand holds and foot rests. Approx size in inches - 4 ½ x 2 ¾.

This is at present my grandest design which is based on a horse once owned by
Lord Grantley. Probably of English origin dating from around 1650, but the
stand may be of a later date.
This was quite a difficult horse to make because of it's stance, heavy
muscle structure and carved mane and tail. The bridle, though simple, has
a very intricate bit and a brass medallion on it's brow band. The saddle
is finished with brass studs. This is also a fine example of a horse
featuring a turned head.
Because of it's proud and imposing stature, this horse would obviously
suit a collector of miniatures or the owner of a more 'stately' doll's house!
Approx size in inches 6½ x 4 ¾.

Carved board sided horse based on a model made by the Flemish sculptor Laurant de Vaux circa 1765. Padded leather saddle
detailing.
Approx size in inches 4½ x
