How we Train

Before becoming a Community First Responder, there are a number of stages an applicant must go through.

These include...

All members of each group undergo intensive training and assessment with a qualified paramedic under the supervision of LIVES Clinical Lead, Dr Yvonne Owen. This ensure they can deliver the correct care with the appropriate equipment.

All the Training course are verified by the Institute of Healthcare and Development (IHCD) as well as having HSE accreditation.

There are two different types of responder 'First' and 'Intermediate', to become an Intermediate Responder is voluntary however a years service as a First Responder is required as well as attending a minimum of 3 callouts.

First Responders also undergo retraining and testing every year to ensure that all team members can give the best possible care to our community.

Regular team meetings and training exercises also take place at a local level.

Intermediate Responder Training
This is an optional extension to the basic course available to all First Responders and Lone Responders with one year's operational experience and evidence of at least 3 callouts.  The course syllabus is covered over two consecutive days training at LIVES HQ in Horncastle. The course includes written and practical assessments.  As with the basic training is accredited by the IHCD and successful candidates will receive a certificate both from LIVES and from the IHCD.
