What You Need and What You Don't
You obviously can't do without a computer and monitor; a scanner
is necessary to get work into the computer.
You'll need something to send files on, and to make backups
with.
- Zip drives are very common these days, and reasonably priced;
sometimes you can get them bundled with your machine. The disks
become quite expensive if you're using them for storage, but
they're good as a stopgap until you can afford something with
more capacity.
- In the long term, the best option is a CD writer: these cost
more to start with, but the unit cost of CD-R's is under 50p
if you buy in bulk, and every computer has a CD or DVD drive
these days. You'll need LOTS of storage once you start working.
Surprisingly, you don't need a graphics tablet to start with;
they make life easier, but they're not a necessity for colouring.
Equally, it's nice to have a printer, but you can do without
at first.
