It's time. When the video appears on the Internet, and then the news reports, Talents don't try to explain it, not this time. They don't say it's a special effect, or a large eagle, or even an airship or a kite, they say it's a shape-shifting dragon. Then they prove it.

The world shifts. People have to learn that there is more than one kind of human in the world. There are Talents, and they are people too. Or are they? Does the fact that some Talents can shape-shift into mythical creatures make them human - or animal? Does the extra organ vampires possess that allows them to process the blood they need make them a different species? And merman - man or fish?

One agency of Talents comes out into the open to combat the new threats Talents must face.

STORM - the Society of Talented Officers Resisting Mistreatment was set up to fight for the rights of Talents. Its head is the formidable Ann Reynolds, a human. Her father was a Talent, but not all the children of Talents inherit their gifts. Ann did not, but she has always had a foot in both worlds, human and Talents. A tough, middle-aged woman, she's spent her life fighting with and for Talents and now her biggest trial is on her.

Old enemies remain. The IRDC - the International Research and Development Clinics has long taken an interest in Talents, capturing and dissecting them to try to find what makes them special and distill it. The profits could be enormous, but over the years, they have caused deep suffering and heartbreak to many Talents. Now STORM must find a way to deal with the IRDC, or they must destroy it. New enemies emerge, and old enemies in new guises. It's a new world, one that could tumble into turmoil any minute.
