Councillor Cynthia Popley defends Shepshed Volunteer Centre

Fri 24th April 2009

Town and Borough Councillor, Cynthia Popley, has been taking up the defence of Shepshed Volunteer Centre on Radio Leicester.

Cynthia has told our web news editor, 'Shepshed is currently facing a huge reorganisation of its volunteer centre. This is the result of a Leicestershire County Council initiative.

I have been on Radio Leicester speaking to Ben Jackson in defence of our volunteer services and challenging the ridiculous ideas which will significantly deplete the service provided by volunteer centre and the extensive team of dedicated volunteers. The changes facing the volunteer centre were not announced until it was virtually too late to fight. However, I felt justified that our case should be promoted on the radio.

It is a tragedy that our Volunteer Centre’s history of providing vital needs in Shepshed is now virtually a thing of the past with just a bare 10 hour a week instead of 40 hours a week. Again Shepshed has lost out in keeping a valuable asset.
