Shepshed Liberal Democrat and veteram of the World War II conflict in
South East Asia, Jim Nasmyth, has hailed the Lib Dem led Commons vote
on Gurkha rights as a blow for common sense.
Jim said, 'Thank goodness for common sense. The Vote in the Commons on
the Liberal Democrats motion to allow all Gurkas who have fought for our
Queen and Country to be allowed to have British Citizenship is a blow for
Democracy over Political dogma.
'The Prime Minister stated part of the reason for not allowing this was
monetary; surely if we can find all these millions to save bankers jobs we can
find the money to repay these brave men for fighting for us. Let us hope the
Government takes note of this defeat and also thanks to all the MPs who
supported this Liberal Democrat proposal.'
