Salamandastron: Leaders' Office
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This room is obviously and strictly all business. The walls are bare,
except for the occasional military decoration of crossed swords or what
have you, as well as the occasional, dim candle. In the room, there is
an ornately carved, oak desk, behind which rests a comfortable arm chair.
In front of the desk two slightly less comfortable and straight-backed
chairs sit, most likely to keep the occupants on their toes. The desk is
often covered by stacks of papers, sometimes haphazard, and sometimes neatly
placed, depending upon the officer using the room at any given time.

[Out] to Hallway
With the sound of a fire crackling on one end of the room, Jarril is busy scribbling away behind the desk with a quill, dipping the sharp end into the dark ink pot before scratching out some other symbols on the parchment. Over on the wall, the candle light flickers from the breeze coming in from the open space in the wall of the mountain to the outside as the hare stops and turns to look out into the night sky, first time it's been clear with starlight pinpoints shimmering.
The sound of soft humming fills the hallway at least some of it one can only wonder who or what its coming from, the smell of what appears to smell like fresh scorns, and must be hot ones at that. Slowly the humming gets closer. Its tabitha and seams she has brought some snacks. She stops at the leaders office and knocks softly on the door before slowly opening it and poking her head inside.
Tabitha says, "Hello."
With a face full of concertration, Jarril is finishing the last detail of the letter that he's scribbling onto the parchment before he stops and carefully removes the quill from the paper. Taking a piece of cloth, he wipes the tip while looking to where the voice has come from and smiles. "Ah, hello again. I see that you're awake?" A slight smirk crosses his face before he coughs slightly. "Anyways, what can I do for ya this evening?"
Tabitha steps into the room with a tray full of scorns and two flasks as well as a small pot that smells of warm cordial, "thought you could use a little snack and some company. The infirmary is empty and boring." she chuckles softly holding the tray. Most cooks are in bed so she had to warm up everything herself and make the scorns. "That be if you don't mind some company." she says looking over the top of her glasses that are sitting on the edge of her nose.
Jarril gives a smile as he moves his neck about with a paw, wincing slightly. "Ah, no.. Not at all. Could do with a break anyways." His paw moves over the scroll, rolling it up carefully before slipping it into the drawer that he had opened and closed with a gentle clunk. Moving other things off the table, the hare gets up and shifts some more paper away onto shelves of bookcases as he continues to talk. "Well, ta be honest I'm glad the infimary is quiet. Means, no one else has got hurt today, less paperwork." Moving to a small bowl of water, the hare washes his paws before drying them off with a towel. "Though I suppose that probably makes your day a bit boring though, eh wot." Jarril smiles before making his way back to sitting down again.
Tabitha nods her head moving to the the desk and finds a clear space and sets down the tray. "Aye but it be a good thing all the same. Been quiet all day long so i guess you could say i got the day off." she says chuckling, the scorns on the tray smelling wonderful even a little steam coming off them, she looks into your eyes. She slowly sits down fluffing out her dress some, she choose the dark blue with gold rope today as she looks at you. "Though i supposed you never get a day off."
A smile forms on Jarril's face as a chuckle escapes him. "No, not really though sometimes I am ordah'd a few times by ya healah's. My cousin doesn't like ta see me work ta hard, y'know?" Reaching over, the hare lifts up the pot before picking up a flask, pouring the liquid into it gently. Handing it over he chuckles. "No doubt my cousin has already given ordahs about keeping an eye on me, what with me working hard all the time."
Tabitha nods chuckling, "There all hard workers." she says softly she sits back in her chair some getting comfy before she smells the air. "I hope they came out bally well. First time i ever cooked them." she says softly her paws in her lap she smiles warmly. "Taking a day off every now and then is kind of nice." she says softly looking around the room. "Gives ya time to yourself."
Jarril gives a small nod in return as he slowly pours his own portion into the flask. "Well, with the bad weather and all, I doubt much is going on anyways around here." Leaning back in his chair again, he slowly takes a sip of the warm drink and his body relaxes slightly, his ears drooping down a bit. "So, when did you last have a day off then?" His arm reaching out as he places the flask down gently onto the wooden desktop.
Tabitha smiles as she looks back down. "Why today." she says softly. "I didn't have anything else to do So made some scorns and helped out the cooks. Better than sitting around all day and getting fat." she chuckles, slowly she takes the flask and sips from, something about her seams off something that seams to have her a little nervous it seams.
Jarril grins. "Oh I don't know, should see some of the older hares around here. Mind ya, the cook is a bit fat for a otter but he likes it." Reaching over he takes a scorn and bites into it, chewing quietly for a moment or two before giving a nod of his head. "Don't tell him this though but these have turned out quite well for ya first time."
Tabitha chuckles and nods her head reaching out to taste one. "Aye will he had to give me the recipe for it but I wouldn't let him have any." she laughs softly. "Such a quiet night tonight, and a bally cold one at that wot." she says, as she sits back. Sipping from her drink her ears twitching some. "but a lot warmer in here than outside in the grasslands and woods." she admits softly.
Turning his head around slightly, Jarril eye catches the starlight which reflects off his eye while replying. "I think anything will be warmer than out there at the moment, shame there's a patrah out there though at the moment." His voice trails off before he stays still in his thoughts and turns back again. "So how ya settling in here? Made any new friends?"
Tabitha smiles softly " I have made some friends Most of them other healers or the cooks." she says softly shifting and getting comfortable. "My sister was right when she said this place was great wot." she says looking around again. "but she has her own home now." she says sitting back.
Jarril nods, with a slight frown. "So I heard, did ya see her when she visited here a few days back? Travelling in this cold without much of clothing." He relaxes again, shaking his head as he takes up his flask once more and taking a sip. "I think she wanted ta see a colonel though, business and all. Anyways, must be nice having family nearby."
Tabitha nods her head, "and in her...." she chances the subject quickly not even finishing the statement. "Yeah i spoke with her, she is getting married." She says softly and adjusts some in her chair. "Nice to see she has gotten over husband ok." she says sipping from the drink. "I write to her every week so we keep in touch." she sits back after getting another scorn.
Jarril has a thoughtful look for a few moments before he speaks again, his paws holding onto the flask, which helps to keep his paw pads warm. "Well, it's not that far away. I have no doubt ya be seeing each other regularally as soon as the weather improves." He gives you another look and smiles. "But er, what were ya about ta say?" Taking another sip from his flask.
Tabitha blinks and trys to look innocent about the comment. "I didn't say anything." she says her practlly in cup. "Your right i think she will be coming by more often when the weather gets better." she says softly "but what do i know i am just her sister." she says softly sipping from her flask. "She said she would come back when Zoe was around, she went back home before brivicus found she came to the mountain." she chuckles softly.
Jarril nods slowly. "Yeah, I think I heard something that he wasn't happy about her staying with the patrah. Not that I blame him, only a few manage ta survive ta retirement here." The buck sitting up as he places the flask back down on the desk again. "I suppose I think I am happy that my son is at the Abbey now." Going quiet for a moment as he thinks thoughtfully while picking up another scorn he pulls it apart gently. "Just hope he keeps in contact with his mother, don't really talk ta her now that she's picked someone else now." He gives a gentle nibble on the scorn before looking directly at you. "So, think ya end up with someone?"
Tabitha blinks and shoves the rest of the scorn into her mouth as she sits there buying herself some time. She slowly chews up the scorn then looks up rather nervious. "I don't know." she says softly her ear tips a shade of red as she looks over. "Its not that Brivicus doesn't want her in the patrol he likes the patrol its just there are other things." she trails off what ever it is she can't seam to say it. She seams to blush even more. "There are a few that have caught my fancy." she says in a quiet voice.
"I see." Jarril says softly as he watches Tabitha for a moment before nodding his head. "Well, I can see that ya are interested in me." He gives a softer smile as he leans back in his chair. "There's not much that gets past a majah. Besides I've had a lot of practise since I've been training the youngsters here ta be new officahs in the patrah." He pauses for a moment. "I hope I haven't embarassed ya that much but thought someone had ta say something." His paws moving together as he crosses his fingers over each other. "So, who else?" The hare says softly. "May as well see what the competition is and all."
Tabitha blushes deep red and shakes her head softly. "there is only two you and.." she trails off blushing "Quinten" she admits her nose in her flask this time as she sits there rather shy. She shifts and gets comfortable again as she grabs another scorn and shoves it into her mouth as she looks down ear tips bright red.
Jarril grins. "I see." He coughs and shakes his head. "Sorry, I am embarassing ya. It wasn't my intention I assure ya."
Tabitha blushes still She mutters out softly. "Its ok." she says looking up after setting down her flask on the desk. "Being the younger sister i have always been really shy." she admits.
Jarril nods slowly. "Well, I am flattered and all but I am getting on in my seasons." The buck says softly. "Should be about erm." The buck's face looks thoughtful for a moment as he looks up and then continues on. "About twenty seasons now I think soon. Spent nearly thirteen seasons here at the mountain. Hmm, has it been that long...?" The thoughtful look comes back on the buck as he nods his head. "Looks like it has, three wars, countless battles, injuries... Hmmm, thought it was longer than that..." Blinking he smiles, coming out of his thoughts. "Sorry, kinda zoned out there."
Tabitha frowns some and looks to the floor. "I see." she says softly. "Age never really mattered to me." she says softly, scuffing her paw on the ground she isn't so young she is maybe 14-15 seasons old. "she smiles softly." She sits back in her chair. "I say after all that maybe it be time to settle down." she says softly.
Jarril gives a soft smile. "Aye, perhaps but it be a huge task for whoever wanted ta tame a warrior such as myself. It wouldn't be easy, I know that much." The buck reaches over to take another scorn as he smiles. "Ya should talk ta my cousin, Zoe about it sometime. I'm sure she be able ta let ya know just how stubborn I can be." He looks at the scorn for a moment and loses his smile. "I'm sorry, I do want ta settle down one day it's just..." He places the scorn back onto the desk and gets up from his seat as he moves over to where the window is, standing there with his paws behind his back as he looks out. "I'm not sure if I can do it anymore, that's all." A slight frown forms on his face as he looks out to the moon-lit beach laid out below. "I'm scared as I would risk my life and others if someone I cared for was in danger." With his ears resting at the back of his head he frowns still looking outwards. "Besides, my last attempts didn't work out with settling down. Both does left because of this pa
"Besides, my last attempts didn't work out with settling down. Both does left because of this patrah and duty..."
Tabitha sits back listening to everything having refilled her flask staring into it. She opens her mouth then closes it, only to open it again trying to say the right things. She frowns and just looks down lost in thought, she just remains silent. "i maybe shy but i am stubborn at times." she says softly, "I think love is more for someone to hold onto when your sad and to keep you warm on a cold night." she says softly "but something that can't be rushed." she trails off sitting there silently.
Jarril nods his head. "Exactly, so why not see on who ya choose in the long run." The buck smiles as he leans forwards now, his paws on the window ledge as he looks out. "I appreciate the company now though, even if it is ya day off." He snerks slightly, turning his head around. "Though saying that risks something happening." The major gives a fleeting look towards the door again. "I think it's the way the mountain gets us back sometimes, doncha know."
Tabitha nods her head, "things seam to go up and down here." she sits back in her chair. She looks deep in thought before she looks up. "glad its been slow, gave me a chance to talk with my sister. Find out whats been going on." she smiles softly "that and learn my way around."
Jarril nods his head slowly. "Oh just wait until another conflict comes about, ya be wishing for time off again." Moving around, he makes his way back to his chair and sits back down into it again. "But aye, it goes up and down. So, ya just a resident or are ya actually going ta join up one day?" *repose*
Tabitha smiles softly "Just a resident for now" she says softly "Maybe i might join but only time will tell wot." she drains her second flask of the cordial. "Maybe if i find someone i may just remain a resident but otherwise i may join." she says softly.
Jarril chuckles. "Well, this place has that kind of thing on ya." Resting in his chair more, the buck closes his only eye. "So, this eye patch thing doesn't bother ya then?" He smiles. "Well, actually I think it won't since my cousin has the same injury now as well." Opening his eye again he looks at you with a gentle stare. "Just be careful, even residents can be harmed here. Ya can look after y'self right?"
Tabitha chuckles and nods her head "I am a healer remember wot." she says "Not much will scare me." she chuckles "as for taking care of my self, will lets just say the last beast that tried to harm me....." she trails off looking out the window and to the ocean. She sits back in her chair sighing softly, "guess i should be happy for other things. Just gets cold at nights and ya want someone to be there with ya."
Jarril doesn't say anything for the moment, he keeps quiet and then slowly comes out of it. "Well, let's see how things go, ya did say ya wanted ta go slow and besides. I think it's up ta ya now on whom ya interested in." Dipping his head slightly, he continues on. "Anyways, if ya like, ya can sign up for some lessons on defensive fighting, take a few boxing lessons... That sort of thing. Most of the healah's do it anyways. Comes useful when ya out in the battlefield wot."
Tabitha nods her head "yeah you can't rush love." she says sitting back and stretching some. She looks deep in thought "Maybe i will sign up for some boxing lessions, never would hurt." she says softly her ear tips swaying in the air some. She looks up at you and smiles softly.
Jarril grins. "Well, I don't do those, although I am sure my cousin would love ta get me back into those lessons again." The buck moves a paw up to rub the side of his head slightly. "Although she does have a bally hard jab.."
Tabitha nods her head and frowns "If i can find her that is." she says softly "Haven't seen her in a wile." she says grabbing another scorn and eating it silently. "But i am sure she is busy."
Jarril nods as he looks outside of the window again and turns his head back once more. "Aye, though other hares do it. Hmmm, tell ya what. If ya can't find anyone else, then I'll come down and box with ya, what do ya say?" Getting up, he yawns slightly and smiles. "As for now though, I best head off, early start in the morning and it's getting late."
Tabitha nods her head gathering up the tray and and cups. "Aye sounds like am idea to me." she says softly as she picks up the tray and takes her leave. "see you around."
Jarril nods back gently. "Aye, that ya will." Turning around,
he slowly goes about to blowing out the candles in the room, before he
too leaves, closing the door behind him before making his way down the
corridor towards where the higher ranks sleep.
