Salamandastron: Dining Chamber
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This is the dining chamber for the mountain of Salamandastron.
It is a
veritable cavern, the necessity of feeding so many hares making the
room
so big. Dominating the room is a huge banquet table made of solid
oak.
Nobeast knows how such a venerable object came to be here, but its
presence is undeniable. Smaller tables skirt the outside of the
room,
each sitting near a large torch burning brightly in its sconce.
The chair
at the head of the table is different from the plain maple chairs that
occupy the rest of the room - it belongs to the Badger Lord.
The massive
object is graced with a carving of the very mountain it is in, with
the
sun setting over the sea.

Yet another semi cold day outside at least cold enough that one would need a cloak before stepping outside. But the mountain is comfortably warm. Only faint signs of life show throuhout the mountain, a few recurits up and about but most of the mountain still asleep. The faint smell of food emits from the dinning room. sitting at the table inside with scornes and some kind of oatmeal like food, wile it may look nasty it sure does smell good, sits the new resident healer partaking in some breakfast it seams. Dressed in a white dress with a gold colored rope around her waist, the dress rather clean. Her glasses fogged up and sitting at the edge of her nose, all alone for the time being.
One of those rare things within the mountain and that's Jarril who is showing off his white winter coat now, only colour being his uniform that he wears. Walking into the dining room, the older hare looks about and slowly makes his way over to where the table is, yawning a bit. Giving a nod to some other hare elsewhere in the room, he settles down at the table and rests his head in a paw, not eating at the moment. The late sunrise making the major a bit sleepy as of late.
Quinten is sat at a table near the door, the young buck has grown maybe an inch or so in the last few months and filled out considerable, well into his prime now and out of his teenage seasons. He stands up and moves around the table, "Major, good to see you." he grins softly, "I like the fur sir."
Tabitha keeps eating her meal as she looks over at the two her glasses still fogged up as she looks having to look over the top not seeing all that well but enough to know there is two bucks there, she smiles and goes about her eating having been up for the last hour or so having already cleaned the infirmary for today she is partaking in some much needed breakfast. Her dress matching her fur almost excatly her fur almost the same color of Jarril's if not a tint more grey. Finally she speaks, "Hullo thur."
Jarril gives a smile at Quinten. "Well, it helps to get about un-noticed where the snow has fallen, though I stand right out in these sandy areas." He looks back and gives a nod to Tabitha. "Hello." Moving his head back again. "And no getting ideas on making other hares white, the cook will kill you for wasting the flour, we need all the stocks we have until we can start to grow new lot come spring."
Quinten chuckles an salutes the Major, "I'd not do that, i'd need some form of powerul cleaning agent to turn a chaps fur white. Besides i quite like being sandy, makes me stick out less when trying to do manouvers on the sand."
Tabitha finishes up her breakfast before sitting back and stretching out some with a large yawn. She leans closer to the table and her warm steaming drink staring into it for a wile. After a wile her head just seams to stay put over the cup her eyes closed and breathing slowly making her rise and fall, her nose just right about the warm drink before she suddenly slides forward ad plop in goes her muzzle making her jump up and give a startled yell as she pats off her nose with a napkin blushing wildly.
Starting to walk towards a table, Jarril continues to speak. "Well, I wouldn't worry much about that at the moment, most are keeping indoors with the cold weather, some probably have gone into hibernation.." He pauses and begins to sit down. "Wasn't anything out there in my morning run, though that wind from the sea could cut through anything. Mind ya, glad I got this winter coat, even though sometimes I have ta go outside since it's ta warm in here." The hare reaches over and picks up some toast, before adding some preserved strawberry jam.
Quinten sits back down at the table watching Tabitha with a grin, "Wake up Tabitha, no sleeping on the job, we got all this breakfast to finish." he winks at her then glances at Jarril. "Too warm, in here? It is just right i'd sleep for weeks if it was allowed." he sits up and grins, "Though i got some news sah, i qualified as a field medic at last."
Jarril snerks slightly. "I see, so my cousin ran you through the courses then, did she?" The hare continues to eat into his toast as he smiles.
Quinten smiles softly and nods his head, "Yes, she kept cornering me in the infirmary and well she speaks good when she wants you to do something. So I afgreed and it is quite fun for the most part."
Leori stepping into the room with a heavy cloak on, brivicus would hit the roof if he new she went out this morning. She pokes her head into the dinning room and smiles. "Ahh Major." she says still cloaked heavy and for the most part looks like a hooded stranger. "Your one of the beasts i was looking for." she says as she walks over, shaking the cold from her fur. She has been outside for a few hours at least.
Jarril nods, waving a piece of toast about slightly. "Mark my words, she'll turn ya into a proper healah if she had the chance. Mind ya, I did try and get a few ta be runnahs, so..." The major goes back to munching on his slice of toast before giving a nod to another white furred hare as he smiles. "Anyways, us white furred hares need ta stick together so..."
Quinten chuckles and picks up a cup of tea and sips from it, "Ohn she says she has plans to turn me into a healer as well sah, trying to poach me out from under you. But so far i've been resisting that, i enjoy the patrol too much."
Moving his attention away from his food, Jarril blinks at Leori. "Egad, what on bally earth are ya doing out in this bad weather?" Getting up from his chair. "And what would be so important ta brace that nasty weather out there?"
Leori looks over as she lowers her hood with a warm smile even though her face fur looks a little frosted, she draws the cloak closer keeping her lower half nice and cozy. "I say how have you all been?" she asks softly, still keeping her cloak around her. She looks to the major again and takes a seat at the table, something different about her it seams. "and its not so much important than it is i need a favor."
Jarril gives a ear twitch as he looks away from Leori. "Oh, and that being?" He reaches over for a scone and slices it open with a knife before looking at Quinten with a thoughtful look as though he talk to him in a moment before keeping his attention on Leori or at least his thick white furred ears do at least.
Quinten catches Jarril's look and sits up, "What is is sir? You have that look on your muzzle again as if i've done or said something wrong." the younger buck shifts and bobs his head in greetings to Leori, "Morning leori nice to see you again."
Leori flicks her ears and nods at Quinten, "Will see my problem is this Briv wants to get married, but a trip to the abbey is out of the question, at least now." she says softly. "I was wondering if you knew anyplaces or if it could be done here?" she asks. "Neither of us feel like going all the way to the abbey in this cold weather." she says pulling her ears back.
Pausing in his military task of killing the scone with his buck teeth, Jarril slowly lowers it down to the table again with a more thoughtful look on his face. "I don't know, usually a badger lord would sort that out but I don't know if we have a hare for that sort of reponsibility. We haven't had that many weddings here." Giving a frown. "I think only a colonel can marry though, so I can't do it." Turning his head to where Leori is, he nods. "I'd speak with a colonel about it."
Quinten nods his head in agreement with jarril, "Yes I am sure the colonel has the authority to do it."
Leori nods and smiles softly. "I will have to stay and speak with the Colonel then." she says with a chuckle. "Ohh and how be my sister fairing here?" she asks softly with a grin. "I know she is a little clumsy at times but is a great healer." She says with a smile.
Jarril replies. "I don't know, not really seen much of her lately. Been up and out on patrol's lately with the other northern hares up where the snow is." He looks to where Quinten is who may have more information before going back to his scone again.
Quinten smiles, "Tabitha you mean? She is a good healer but has a habit of falling asleep in the warm at times."
Leori nods and cuckles "Yeah we all do that though." she says softly. Leori blushes, "fell asleep in the warm springs at home myself." she says with a chuckle. "I kind of pushed her here for a reason," she looks at Jarril, "I know she is quite fond of a few in the mountain from the letters she has written." Leori says turning her head to look at Quinten. "But i know she is really shy."
Jarril blinks on that one. "Oh, and who are the lucky bucks then?" The major speaking in between mouthfuls of porridge now.
Quinten pulls over a plate of toast and starts to butter it slowly. "Well i am sure Tabitha will open right on up once she has been with us for some time. It is hard to be shy when your living day and night with the same hares."
Leori chuckles and leans over to whisper into Jarril's ear before nodding to Quinten. "Aye she will Just takes time." She grabs a piece of toast herself and munches on it.
Jarril blinks at the whisper and nods his head, though the hare says nothing at all. He turns his attention to where Quinten is and gives a slight frown. "So, again it seems that I am about to lose another of my patrol members to another patrol." The sound of the major's voice isn't a good one. "Well, I leave it up ta ya on who ya wish ta be with." Muttering under his breath, there's something about getting fed up with the situation.
Quinten sits up straigght, "Hey sah, i never said i was leaving your patrol. I swore to serve in your patrol and I will serve in it. I'm not moving unless you want rid of me." his ears have gone straight, all interest in who Tabitha might like forgotten for now as he stares at his commanding officer
Jarril gives a slight snort. "Well, then I like ya ta stop this thing with my cousin then with the healah business. I'm a tad bit fed up of training hares before they go off ta another patrol. Not had a stable patrah in seasons." Coming to a abrupt stop, the major smiles. "Anyways, that's my problem." He turns his head to Leori again and smiles. "At least sit down and have a mug of hot tea or something ta help warm yaself up, aye?"
Quinten sinks back down in his chair, "Yes sah." he mutters, "Was only doing it so you might have a field healah you know another one. Figure the more of us can help the better." he flicks his toast aside looking uninterested in it now.
Leori smiles and listens to the two silently as she sits there, She nods her head as she watches Jarril silently and frowns as she nods rising slowly and making her way into the kitchen for the time being letting the two talk in private she will get the cook to make a warm drink for her.
Leori smiles and listens to the two silently as she sits there, She nods her head as she watches Jarril silently and frowns, she nods rising slowly and making her way into the kitchen for the time being letting the two talk in private she will get the cook to make a warm drink for her. (sorry typeing is a little slow and gramar is a little off.)
Jarril nods slowly at Quinten. "I know, but just worried that's all." He frowns. "Especially after ya saying she's trying ta poach ya from me and all. I've had that happen a lot here and quite flipping well fed up of it." Leaning back slightly, he looks about the hall. "If she's not careful, she find me gone from the mountain one day."
Quinten sits up and nods, "Well you got nothing to fear sah, I won't let her poach me, I'm your hare and i like your patrol we always get the interesting missions/"
Jarril snerks. "Don't ya mean, the dangerous and wreckless ones. Now that we've had any lately. not that all vermin have gone now."
*I think ICly that the peltreapers are gone now, etc. No one's interested in that plot anymore, etc*
Quinten nods his head andl eans back, "Aye things have been overly quiet of late sir, is good i guess for settling down and raising families peace." *Oh heck this muck is dying a death, slowly and sadly."
Jarril snorts again. "Well, I wouldn't know about raising families." He gives Leori a side glance as he he takes a sip of his tea. "Well, not if ya don't count Harper, not sure how he's getting along at the Abbey, that's if they made it there. Not had a message from them in a while."
Quinten nods his head, "I think they made it there, at least there was mention of our hares doing well when re received word of the new Abbot. They Made Brother Kieran Abbot."
Jarril grins. "Did they now, well at least they get things sorted out there. All we need now is a badger ta come here... Don't fancy risking being the one ta run this place if my cousin gets any older. Speaking of which, do we still have abbey beasts here?"
Quinten shakes his head, "No i believe the abbey beasts all headed back home for winter was was the plan apparently." he glances up at the older buck and grins, "I don't mind you in charge might not be too bad."
Leori doesn't see the glace as she is in the kitchen slowly she reappears from the kitchen with a warm mug of tea cloak still around her. She takes a seat at the table and sips from the mug.
Jarril shakes his head. "Nah, I think my cousin is made of stronger stuff than she let's on. Besides I can see either Majah Darklett or Rahier wanting the position. Not ta mention the other colonels, some of which have way more experience than I do." Pushing his bowl away, the major wipes his muzzle with a napkin.
Quinten smiles and nods his head, "Yes well i still like being in your patrol sir, regardless of your position."
Jarril nods slowly. "And what happens if I leave?" The hare asks. "I mean, if something or someone came along with a better offer for me that I couldn't resist, what then?" He takes a sip of the hot herbal tea and looks over the rim of the mug. "Well, not that I am, but ya know, if something did come about."
Quinten nods his head, "Well it is all about loyalty sah, your the hare who trained me the most, who believed in me when i was all but ready to quit. So i'mnot about to brush that all aside sir."
Jarril gives Quinten the look, but with a slight curl on the sides of his face. "Aye, ya've done some growing up these past two seasons, what after what happened and all. So, gives ya something ta tell ya young ones one day about ya adventures as a recruit."
Quinten chuckles, "I've already written them all down major. Will be godo stories to read out one day."
Jarril nods slowly. "So, what are your plans for today? Staying inside like the others?"
Leori falls forward her head on the table seaming to be asleep her mug half empty one can't blame her she has been walking through the cold air for a few hours. Her whiskers twitch softly as she rests quietly not even distrubed by the noise of anyone talking.
Quinten nods his head, "I was going to do some training up outside then some reading."
Jarril nods as he gets up. "Well, I make sure ya warm, there's still a nasty wind coming from the sea." The major pauses in thought. "Could be heading for a storm at some point, maybe more snow up in the mainland, not sure yet." Straightening out his uniform, he bobs his head. "Well, I have paperwork ta do, then sleep. Got another patrah again later on tanight."
Quinten salutes, "Am I on tha patrol sah?" he sits up and smiles, "I don't mind going out on a night patrol."
Jarril smiles, turning his head back to face Quinten. "Not sure,
we've been tracking a pair of travelling foxes in the area up by the copse.
I think they're just passing through the area but they haven't spotted
us yet. Snow's handy for hiding in and all. It's pretty much
sitting out in the cold all night and watching them. Don't worry,
if there's anything exciting I let ya in on it."
Quinten nods his head and stands up, pushing away the last of the breakfast
items. "Ok sir, well i'm going to head up and get to practicing"
Jarril nods and makes his way towards the exit of the room. "Well,
catch ya later." Without saying another word, he heads out, still
in thought on what Leori told him before, but he shrugs that off as work
enters his mind again for the time being.
