07:59 PM
Slain sits on a random large rock, his now close to empty pack in from of him, his clothes are a bit torn and tattered from the long journey, reaching into the pack he pulls out what's left of the last loaf of bread, he mutters something in his native tongue before he begins on it.
Moving on his own this day, the major slowly makes his walk about the mountain carefully as he stops for a moment and gives a slight frown. "Hmm, bally scouts were right." Moving carefully now, Jarril slowly gets as close as he would like to and speaks out. "What's ya business here, lizard?"
Slain slips off the rock in surprise, nearly choking on the bread, after a brief moment of coughing it down the right tube he finally manages to get his bearings back, glancing about he finds the hare and replies "I'm simply resting is all."
Jarril nods his head slowly as he leans against the rockface, crossing his arms about his chest. "I see, though ya do know where ya are however, right?" Flicking an ear in the general direction of where the lizard was sitting.
Slain finally manages to stand up to face the hare "Um, I'm afraid I don't, I am an outlander and not very familiar with this place, tell me sir, where have I ended up?"
Jarril blinks a bit as he listens to what Slain has to say and slowly replies, still not moving from where he is resting against the rock. "Well, I should hope not. Vermin don't exactly just bally well stroll up ta the mountain, doncha know. This is Salamandastron I have ya know. So I ask this of ya. What is ya business here?" The major turning to look at Slain now directly, through his only eye, the other long since gone to only a black eye patch in it's place.
Slain blinks "This is Salamandastron, then are you by any chance a warrior of the Long Patrol?"
Jarril gives a sly grin as he responds. "Ah, so the tales of us are still doing the rounds then." He nods his head once more. "Aye, that I am. What of it?"
Slain replies "I bring word from the lands to the east of your majestic mountain sir. A number of vermin having been making assaults on the woodlanders there, mostly in the areas of Redwall and Camp Willow, I have heard rumors of a war going on here, and sought to see it for my self. I believe that the increased attacks are some how related."
Jarril ponders this one for a moment and remains silent. Feeling a breeeze blow over him from the sea, the hare speaks back, slight less friendliness if there was any to begin with as he directs his next set of questions to the lizard. "And what exactly is in it ta see this for y'self?" Getting up from the rock now, the hare stands up and turns to face Slain.
Slain replies with a strong shine of pride and determination "My home land is a place of war, both physical and spiritual, if the war here is connected to the harm that is befalling those around me then I will do what I must to help bring an end to it."
Jarril replies back with such venom in his voice now. "Does that mean any side then?" The major clearly having a frown on his facial features now. "Listen, lizard. I've known about ya kind from when I was back in Mossflower several seasons ago ta get ya lot out of Redwall. Now ya will tell me exactly what ya plans are here and ya tell them ta me now, got it?" A usual response from one side that feels threatened in someone else joining another side.
Slain replies back, voice holding strong despite the hare's anger "I will fight only for those who fight for the greater good, my blade is mine to pledge to whom I see fit!" He removes the sheathed blade from his back, and proceeds to kneel while facing the hare, the pride in his eyes now shining stronger then the sun, he says something in his native tongue before saying it again in more common speak "I have come to pledge my blade to the warriors of Salamandastron."
Jarril blinks and turns his head towards and upwards of the mountain, muttering something before turning his head back to where the lizard is again. Coughing slightly, the major nods his head. "I see, well I can't exactly give a definite answer on that one. Have ta speak ta my superiors. But I will tell them everything that has happened here."
Slain bows his head to ground before looking up to the hare "I thank you sir, there is more for me to tell though, the enemy you face, they are known as the Bloodthirsters correct."
Nodding his head back. "They are. What's ya point?" His voice going back to normal or at least normal for this particular hare.
Slain continues "I believe that there may be a pact between the Bloodthirsters and Ruingate. While making one of my usual spy missions to an area that Ruingate's higher ups frequent I over heard a conversation between a beast named Findle and Merdez's general Bane."
Jarril rubs his chin now thoughtfully. "And is there proof to what ya say?" The major coughs. "No offence but we've had problems in the past." The major wishing now that there was someone else with him so at least he could send off to fetch someone a bit more with authority on things. Snapping back from his thoughts. "No offence though, but what sort of pact?"
Slain shakes his head "I know not what their plans are exactly, from my post I heard Findel speak of doing Ruingate's work for them and keeping the Long Patrol busy. The only proof of this is my word, and it's value is for you to decide."
Jarril gives a slight frown. "I see. Well, unless ya have anything else ta say on the matter I have ta find out if ya can come in or not." Pausing for a moment, the major slowly opens his side pouch and throws over some vittles. "I take it that vittles is fine? You're not a meat eater are ya?"
Slain bows his head again "I thank you for your kindness sir. I have grown accustomed to a number of your land's foods, how ever I mostly prefer to eat fish."
The major nods his head. "Follow me, I will show ya a place where ya can wait outside the mountain while a decision is made about this."
Salamandastron: Northwestern Side

Farther north, on the northwestern side of the mountain is more coast
and the ever looming presence of the mountain. To the north is coast
and to the west is the ocean. The beaches between the mountain and the
ocean look like a prime battleground area..

Salamandastron: Niche

You are next to a niche in the side of the mountain, which blocks out
everything to the west with its immense rocky bulk. Just barely
visible
is a small fissure in the rock, through which it looks like you could
'enter' the mountain.

Coming to a stop, Jarril nods to the two hares at the entrance. "He's with me, but he be waiting here for the moment." Turning around to face Slain, the major coughs. "Ya will wait here and I will ask for the time being that ya sword be placed against that rock wall there." Pointing to it. "No one else will touch it, ya have my word on that." Turning around the major nods his head at one of the guards. "Go find me a colonel, tell them that it's very important that they come down here immediately. Explain to them who is with me and that at the moment he is a friend."
Slain removes the sheathed blade from his back again and places where he was instructed he then returns to his place behind the major.
Jarril waits there, wondering on why he gets into such things as he keeps at attention and awaiting the powers that be to head on down. Giving his brow a slight scratch, the major shuffles slightly. Glad at least that the lizard has followed orders so far to the letter.
Slain stands at attention in the same fashion as the hare in front of him.
Earblade turns the corner of the corridor into the entrance Niche, he mutters darkly at having been disturbed from his midday repast. He starts at the sight of the lizard and glances at the runner meekly following, obviously having doubted the frantic hare's spurted message. He sighs and rubs his temples quietly before wandering up to the major and nodding calmly before introducing himself to the visitor. "Good Afternoon, I'm Colonel Earblade." he says, not adding too much in the way of pleasantries before rounding on the major. "Major Jarril, can I have a quiet word please?" asks the colonel, gesturing for the major to step over to one side in order to report the goings on so far, "If you would excuse us for a moment" he asks of the lizard.
Slain bows his head to Earblade "It is a pleasure to meet you sir, I am called Slain."
Jarril sighs and nods his head to follow Earblade to where he leads him and speaks in a hushed tone. "Sah, I thought it was best ta bring him here since he wants ta help us win the war against the bloodthirsters and has valuable information about them. It was better ta lead him here, get him unarmed where we could control the situation than risk him vanishing if I had ta find someone else if I left him around the other side of the mountain." The major gives the lizard a look and then back at Earblade. "If I did wrong, then I accept any punishment, sah."
Earblade nods in agreement with the Major's report and glances back towards the lizard, "Alright then, provide our guest with an escort or two - You should be able to find a couple of 'escorts' with enough 'skill' to see to both his needs and ours. Understandably we can't let him wander about in our mountain but we don't want to offend if he's actually willing to help eh?" orders the Colonel before nodding and wandering back over to Slain. "Right then. we're a rather hospitable bunch and if you're here to help I'm sure you'll find us welcoming. We'll provide a few guides for you around the mountain and some temporary accomodation. Once you're cleaned up, we'll see what you've got in terms of information. Sound good?"
Slain replies obviously a bit over whelmed by the kindness "You really don't need to go out of your way on my account, I'm more then used to staying out doors and any information I have is yours to take when you please."
Jarril stands where he is and lets Earblade talk to the lizard for a moment to add something else to the colonel before he goes. Placing his paws behind his back, the major nods to one of the guards. "Go fetch two volunteers ta help show our guest around." Turning around, the major winks and points to his blade out of sight from the lizard. Seeing the officer nod and move out back into the mountain, the major turns his head back to Slain and Earblade once more.
Earblade barks a laugh, "Well the 'accomodation' isn't exactly the peak of hospitality, just a bare room with a pallet in to sleep on, but it'll keep the sea winds off y'back at least. We'll speak again" he says with a wry grin before turning back to Jarril, "Major, I take it you'll look after our guest while he gets settled?" asks the Colonel, although not making it a question with terribly much scope in the way of an answer as he offers a quick salute and starts to make his way back into the mountain.
Jarril nods his head as he speaks. "Well, that went okay." Turning to Slain. "Come on, follow me, leave ya sword there. I make sure it's taken ta the armoury where it will remain safe."
Slain nods "Yes sir."
Salamandastron: Dining Chamber
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This is the dining chamber for the mountain of Salamandastron.
It is a
veritable cavern, the necessity of feeding so many hares making the
room
so big. Dominating the room is a huge banquet table made of solid
oak.
Nobeast knows how such a venerable object came to be here, but its
presence is undeniable. Smaller tables skirt the outside of the
room,
each sitting near a large torch burning brightly in its sconce.
The chair
at the head of the table is different from the plain maple chairs that
occupy the rest of the room - it belongs to the Badger Lord.
The massive
object is graced with a carving of the very mountain it is in, with
the
sun setting over the sea.

Taye continues patting Miyrr on the shoulder, but at the sight of Terrance as he looks over Miyrr's shoulder, Taye just looks... well. Helpless. He sits up and holds Miyrr away from him so that he can look at her. "Miyrr... please don't cry anymore. Look," he gestures around, "yer safe 'n' sound..."
Miyrr nods and sits back upright in her chair still looking at him. "I am." she says reaching for her glass. She wipes away the last of her tears and takes a drink.
Terrance digs into a bit of salad that he piled on his plate, trying not to be obvious as he glances over towards Taye and Miyrr.
Padding in the main dining area, Jarril who has two very large, armed and well built fighters standing right next to Slain. "Right, here is where ya can get some food for ya travels. If ya don't mind heading over there ta eat." Moving ahead, the major moves to one of the empty tables and sits down, motioning his head for the lizard to do the same.
Miyrr room-pages, "Just so ya know, Miyrr is bandaged on her wrists ankles neck and over one eye from what you can see. re-posted for those just entered :)".
Slain enters in behind the major, bowing his head to the others "Greetings, to you all, I am known as Slain."
glad that she's calmed somewhat, Taye gives Miyrr a tentative smile. "Once yer feelin' bettah... I'll give ya /two/ tours t' make up fer how long it's been."
Skipai, the well known otter cook of the mountain comes in with some more food on a trolley, stopping in his tracks. "What in the." The otter leaving his trolley alone where it stand, pads over to where Jarril is and fumes. "What the blithering fishgates is that thing doing here?"
Jarril sighs and gets up. "I won't be a moment." Nodding to Slain and taking Skipai by the shoulder as he leads him to the other side of the room and speaks quietly. "He's here as a guest." He could see the otter about to say something else and puts up a finger. "Now, now. Look, he has information on what the Bloodthirsters are up ta. And he's offered ta fight on our side. We know if it's true soon enough but for the moment we're giving him the benefit of the doubt. Besides he has all the time two guards with him. Get him some fish if we have any. He likes that." Seeing the otter nod, muttering as he pads away, the major makes his way back to Slain. "Sorry about that but I think ya may have that sort of response for the first few days."
Terrance glances up as the new arrivals come in. The young buck raises his eyebrows as he spots the lizzard, but seems to relax a little when he spots the two burly fighting hare. Terr quirks his ears towards Jarril, listening for an answer to the cook's question.
Miyrr smiles at Taye, "I'd like that." She takes another small bite of food watching the others that have entered.
Slain nods to Jarril "I am very used to those kinds of reactions, the opinions of other beasts about me is their own, if my actions and attitude can change them then it is their business to think and feel that way."
Jarril nods as he settles back into his seat again opposite to where Slain is and facing the two guards either side of him. "Ya not under arrest or anything, it's mainly for ya protection. There are a few hares here that have had bad dealings with lizards seasons back. However, getting back to business again." He looks to see the otter padding back in with fish but having a huge frown on his face, webbed paws gripping the plate so hard that his webbed paws could've turned white. "Tell me all you know about this Bloodthirsters and Ruingate. Like who told you and what exactly?" He nodded to the otter putting the plate down and waited patiently for an answer.
Taye grins as he returns to nibbling at his lunch, glad to see her in better spirits. He gestures to her plate. "Eat, Miyrr. Ya need yer strength."
Terrance takes his plate and cup and moves to a seat across from Taye and Miyrr, "Will you look at that brute. My parents told me stories about Monitors but I've nevah seen one o' the blighters before" he says to the other recruits, keeping his voice down a little bit so hopefully Slain and those with him wont hear.
Slain takes on a more serious expression as he switches into business mode "What I know is only what I heard. I was about to begin my usual rounds inside the Black Gull when I heard to voice of Bane speaking with this Findel character, they seemed to know each other quite well, and it sounded as though Findel was on his way to collect something or other from Merdez. Most of what they spoke of was unimportant, how ever during their talk the subject of this mountain and it's noble warriors came up. I believe that the Bloodthirsters are being used as a distraction, and I doubt they know it, as of late Merdez has been extending Ruingate's influence into Mossflower, and now he is making plans to put a full garrison there."
Miyrr smiles and nods at the buck that sat across and silently goes back to nibbling on her food.
Jarril just nods his head. "How long ago was this?"
Slain replies, having actually picked up on the young one's comments but not acting on them "It was a few weeks ago."
Jarril gives a slight frown. "Would seem to when the trouble first happened here then. So we're a slight distraction then are we." Taking a few moments of silence, the major speaks again. "Not that I am doubting ya, well I am in a way but is there any proof of what ya have said? Ya be talking ta no doubt the biggest meeting evah with upper ranks and they don't mess about." The major frowns. "I don't either so if this is a ploy or anything? I don't like being made the fool of."
Slain shakes his head "As I said before, only word is what you have, I understand that Merdez is usually quite careful, but he and his group do not see me as a threat, they speak openly and quite a lot in my presence. As for Bane's meeting with Findel, at the time I had hidden my self in the shadows while the spoke, they did not know I present. The only proof I have is the fact that your trouble began around the time in question, frighteningly close to it."
Ralai wakes up from a nap in the chair he was in looking around to see who is here he yawns loudly
Taye looks to Terrance as he sits opposite them. He nods to the other buck, and then glances over at Slain as Terrance speaks of him. He frowns thoughtfully. "I wondah what Majah Jarril's talkin' t' him about..."
Jarril nods as he reaches for a apple and takes it. "Okay, but we're not the only lot that can take care of business. Ther'es the GUISOM, several otter and squirrels about the woods that would take up arms and as for the abbey. That place has survived many things well out of any sane creatures comprehension. So why keep us occupied." The major frowns while in thought. "Ya sure ya didn't hear on why they were doing this?"
Terrance hms and goes back to eating. "Wouldn't mind knowin' that myself either." He takes a bite out of a scone and washes it down with his drink, glancing every now and again toward the major and his 'guest' as he continues eating. Looking back towards Miyrr, the tawny buck says, "I'm Terrance by the way. Fightah recruit. Just arrived two weeks back."
Slain shakes his head with a sigh "No, they were at least smart enough not to speak out loudly about it." He looks up to the major with a slight grin "I've got an idea, Ruingate made the mistake of speaking out openly around me, maybe the Bloodthristers will do the same."
Miyrr smiles once more at Terrance, "I'm Miyrr, um, it's been about a month since I arrived I think.' she says pushing her plate away from her after eating 4 maybe 5 bites of it.
Jarril shakes his head. "Not if they have spies themselves and coming ta the mountain in broad daylight wasn't the best of ideas. They would've known somehow ya entered here." Leaning back, the major rubs the top of his brow, thoughts of why him, on off duty status for a while and then this hits his lap while on a nice walk outside. "Then again, maybe we were lucky, I don't know. It's something for ya ta bring up with the colonels ta be honest. Anyways, eat ya fish before it gets cold."
Ralai give another loud yawn and blinks a few times to clear them
Taye's attention remains riveted on the pair of older beasts. Flicking a glance back to Terrance and Miyrr, he nods. "I'll... be righ' back." He stands and steps around his chair, then heads inconspicuously over to the serving table, which is a good deal closer to Jarril and Slain. He goes about preparing himself another plate of food while his ears stand perked, listening.
Slain smirks a bit "You'd be surprised, Ruingate may know my face but they don't know my loyalty is to the Abbey first. I doubt that a rabble like them would know of me either, I think I have a good chance of infiltrating them and finding out exactly what's going on." Blinking he finally notices the fish, a look of embarrassment comes over him "Oh, heh, I'm sorry." He looks to the cook "My apologies sir, I did not mean to ignore your dish."
Terrance returns the smile and nods, "Good ta meet ya Miyrr." He takes another bite and chews it a bit before nodding towards the bandages "Looks like you've seen some action recently."
Skipai just shrugs. "No need." The otter moves away with the thoughts of keeping an eye on that one.
Slain before the otter moves away too quickly he asks "Um, sir, I really don't want to bother you for too much, but, might you have any hot root for the fish?"
Jarril nods his head and frowns while taking a bite from an apple. Flicking an eye to the side glance he coughs as he swallows his mouthful. "Mistah Taye. Would ya like ta take a seat next ta me than moving slowly with ya food." Turning to face the young buck.
Ralai stands up out of the chair Which gives a rather loud creak
Stopping, the otter blinks and pulls out a small pouch from his belt.
Tossing it onto the table, he nods. "There ya go. I always
have a small pouch of it on paw if I need it." Nodding again, the
otter makes his way to deal with other species in the mountain, mostly
hares.
... Eep. Taye jerks around, half-full plate in paw. He salutes Jarril with his free paw and looks uncertainly between the major and the two recruits. But in the end, he nods. "Yes, sah." He walks hesitantly over to the major's table, giving him ample time to change his mind if he wasn't being serious.
Slain with a wide grin he bows his head to the otter before smothering the fish in it.
Jarril just watches Taye sit down and pulls some bread apart in his paws. "So, what exactly does a young recruit wish ta know, hmm?" The major says while making a sandwich.
Slain looks at the new addition to their seating arrangement and bows his head a bit to the young hare before picking up the now very spicy fish and dropping it in his open maw, with out a second thought he swallows it down with a happy grin.
Taye scoots his chair in and does his best not to drop his eyes, as he is inclined to do. "Sah, I was wonderin' who our new visitah was..." He sends a flickering glance in Slain's direction, his ears dipping with nervousness.
Terrance glances up as Taye gets called over and chuckles a little, "Uh-oh, looks like 'e got caught" he says, nodding in Taye's direction.
Ralai moves over to the table with jarril and slain with a plate of food saying "do you mind if i sit here sirs?"
Jarril nods slowly. "I know ya do Taye. But let me ask ya something. Do ya think it's rude ta eavesdrop on stuff that may well not be none of ya concern?" He gives Ralai a nod and then looks at Taye for a moment. "Ya been doing this a few times now and I've let it slip but this time I won't. He's a guest of the mountain, if he so wishes ta tell ya then he will, if not then he won't. However, this is the last time that ya do this. Am I understood, recruit."
Ralai sits down in one of the chairs Which of course gives a creak under the large badgers weight who then starts to eat
Slain smiles a bit "It's quite all right Major, he has good reason to want to know." He looks to the young hare still with the warm smile "I am called Slain, I am a dragon from lands a far and I have come here offering to help fight in your war here."
Miyrr giggles quietly and nods, "Aye, he did at that." she says shifting her her weight on the chair. "I was in Halyard."
Terrance smirks a bit as he guesses the general area of the current conversation from the major's expression. Looking back towards Miyrr he ohs, "I see." Duh Terr, crying + bandages + Halyard = not a good subject to talk about. He takes a last bite out of his salad to cover hopefully.
Ralai continues to eat mostly staying silent
Miyrr smiles noticing Terrance's uneasiness, "So, anything interesting happen while I was...vacationing?" she asks hoping to change the subject. She watches Tayes reaction the conversation she wishes she could hear. Seeing the look on Jarril's face though she doesn't think he's having a 'pleasant' conversation.
Terrance shrugs and looks back up, "Nothing that I'm aware of anyway, unless you count the other fightah recruits getting a new punching toy" he replies, paw going towards the same spot on his arm that he was rubbing when he came in earlier.
Taye's ears dip even further, and finally he does lower his gaze - but not before a small amount of hurt reproach catches in his gaze. Finally he responds. "... Yes, sah." He doesn't look up as Slain speaks, but only nods before moving to stand. "Sah, may I be excused?"
Jarril nods his head. "You're excused Taye."
Ralai just eats silently chair creaking every so often as he shifts in it
Slain looks to the major "If it's alright with you..." he glances back at the two guards "And them, I'd like to spend a bit of time out side training, if you'd prefer I'll leave my blade here."
Miyrr nods still smiling, "I'll be glad to get back ta some good runnin' that's for sure."
Taye stands the rest of the way and straightens up with a sharp salute given to the major before he turns away. He walks stiffly back over to the two recruits and drops back into his seat without looking at either Miyrr or Terrance.
Jarril sighs a bit as he looks at Slain. "Don't worry, I have a word with him later on. I suggest though that for the time being nothing should be said now on the matter until the colonel and majoh's are ready ta discuss this matter further with ya."
Terrance chuckles and nods, "So you're a runnah then eh? Well now that's two I've met. Like I told Taye last night, I haven't run into many of your types in my classes, no pun intended."
Terrance glances towards Taye as he returns, "So how'd it go?" he asks with a smirk.
Miyrr gives Terrance a look of 'I can't believe you actually said that' and she chuckles a bit at it anyways, "Well, I'm more of a hobbler at the moment." she says. She puts her paw on Tayes knee and rubs it offering a little comfort before placing her paw back up on the table.
Ralai finishes his plate and leans back contentedly
Slain guesses that he's supposed to stay put for the time being, ignoring his 'traveling companions' he looks to the badger and gives him a friendly nod.
Zeraph moves into the dining chamber, arm locked with Taeura's and looking about in awe at all those present. A grin spreads across the buck's features and he looks at the vixen beside him, ears lowering against his skull. "I'm home, Tae." Miyrr catches his attention for a moment and he goes to lead the fox towards her.
Ralai returns the nod saying "hello sir"
Taye's ears flick, but he doesn't glance up at Terrance's ribbing. He does, however, cast a brief glance to the side at Miyrr at her attempt to comfort him. "... Thanks."
Taeura is all smiles, "That ya are Zer. The food smells wonderful." she exclaims still holding onto Zeraphs arm.
Terrance grins a little bit at the response, or rather lack of one, and leans back, taking a quick drink and pushing his empty plate away from him a little. "Well the tuck 'ere is defidently better then my mater's cooking."
Slain smiles a bit "I am called Slain, who might you be sir?"
Jarril gets up. "Ya can talk ta whoever ya want on other matters,
ya free ta roam about the mountain but not ta enter the armoury or infirmaries.
Ya also need ta be with ya two guards at all times. I or someone
else will send for ya when they're ready ta ask ya more questions on that
matter. Now if ya excuse me, I have ta get going and get this all
written down." Picking up another apple, he looks at Taye and shakes
his head. Ah well, young. He get over it or end up seeing him
about what happened at any rate. The major makes his way to the door.
