Standing near to the wall where all the notices are, Jarril looks about and begins to unroll a scroll on the orders for his own patrol and looks for something to stick it into the wall. Minding his business, the major manages to get the scroll hung up and steps back for a moment before looking at any other notices on the wall, scratching his chin slowly.
Entering the dining chamber with something of a tired sigh, Zoe rubs characteristically at the back of her neck as she steps across to the main table, at which she sits. Ugh. Sotired. The doe picks a biscuit from a plate, and nibbles at it absently.
The dining chamber is popular this evening. Two more hares walk in, Maria and Rahier, close at hand. Well two and a half. Maria moves towards the tables, a small bundle in her arms, her attention is paid much closer attention to the little bundle, then her previously most favored activity, reading.
Jarril blinks and looks at Zoe as she comes in before turning back to a particular notice and nodding his head slightly at it, then leaves it alone. Padding over to the table, he smiles. "'vening colonel. Up late, aren't we?"
"Can't much sleep, I s'pose.." Zoe gives an absent shrug and sets the nibbled-on biscuit aside as Jarril is given a glance. "What's yer excuse?"
Jarril grins and looks around, pulling at one of his ears with a paw. "Er, working actually. Making sure my lot are ready for the big move, wot. So left orders finally. I suppose ya be sending out scouts before the main party leaves?" Sitting down on a chair and grabbing a biscuit. With a big bite, the major smiles. "Can't wait ta get home though. Smell that fresh sea air, nothing like making a hare grow a appetite."
Heehee. Rahier has his arm around the doe's middle as they enter, grinning as widely as ever. :D He turns his head to give her kiss a cheek, before looking over to the rest of the dining chamber. Oo. Officers! "H'lo, y'two," he calls, waving slowly, with his other arm. "How's it?" Grin grin.
Zoe_Lang looks questioningly at Jarril and his seeming happiness. "... Weren't ya informed o' the reason fer our leavin', cousin?" Thoughtful frown. "I was undah the impression that all officahs had been informed." The look on her face would suggest that this /not/ being the case would make her very unhappy. Psht.
Jarril nods his head. "Aye I was told." Looking around. "But I thought I show the troops that it doesn't really bother me, I mean, badgers sometimes go off on their own little adventures and I don't think anything would've happened ta ours, so ta speak, wot." Looking down. "Just trying to keep optimistic about things than go about moping and making the troops worry as well." He shakes his head. "Silly though, but I am still homesick, I'd go back now if I was ordered ta. Run all the way back, even sidetrack a bit and see if I can find word from him even. At least that be something ta know that he's about somewhere."
The Colonel reaches into a pocket, and out comes a folded bit of parchment, which she holds out to Jarril. "'Fraid it's not as simple as tha'. He's been gone for near a fortnigh', 'n' the remnants o' a battle were found a bit south o' Sala, but no bodies. Now, 'm not sayin' he's..." Well, she's not saying it at all, actually, and so she skips past that part. "I'm just sayin' I'd like t' get back there on the double. Won't be dilly-dallyin' on the way home, fer sure." Only /then/ does she looks across to Rahier - and Maria. Hopefully, her voice was dropped enough. Hee. "Ah - 'llo, you two. Care t' sit with us?"
Jarril looks at the parchment and nods his head, reading it. "Hmmmm, I wasn't informed on the exact circumstances but then I've been out and about patrolling mossflower so no ones ta blame really." Handing the parchment back, he nods his head and looks to the other two and nods. "Yes, please sit down and join us."
Maria nods slowly to the offerings, and smiles to Zoe, "Good evening Zoe." she says quietly moving towards the colonel's table, "I want you too meet somebeast." she appears to have not been paying any attention if she was close enough to hear.
Rahier alters course. ;p Ears lolling backward, the buck tuuurns with Maria, over toward Zoe's table. "Sure, sure," he answers, withdrawing his arm from the doe beside him, as he looks between the two other officers, whiskers a-twitching. Yes, you were speaking. "That business, is it?" Ho hum.
Zoe_Lang musters up the best smile she can, though her general lack of sleep shows through. /Finally/, she notices the little bundle, and her eyes widen a bit, and she looks significantly from Rahier to Maria. "Are ye quite aware that there's a lev'ret clinging t' yer arm, there, Maria, m'gel?" Cough. Little grin.
Jarril chuckles softly and goes back to taking another biscuit and nibbling on it slowly, keeping quiet as his ears twitch about.
"Aye," Zoe nods to Rahier, gesturing to an empty seat opposite. The parchment is passed across to /him/, as well, because apparently bad news is better when spread as thinly as possible.
Jarril gets up and looks around. "Anyone care for some cider while I am up?" The major looks about. "Could do with a drink, myself wot."
Rahier mms, dropping down heavily into the seat. The buck scans the parchment, briefly, drawing one leg up onto his lap. "Yeh, 'tis a damn dreadful thing. Can only hope 'e's alrigh', y'know... don't think he's really one t'let a buncha ne'er-do-wells get 'im down, 'battle evidence', o' not." Snuffle. The buck looks up to Jarril, waving a paw. "No thanks."
Jarril nods and makes his way to the other side of the room to where one of the barrels is and sorts out a drink for himself.
Zoe_Lang can't quite manage to shake her bad feelings, but then, she's Zoe. Hee. She plucks up the biscuit she'd set aside before, and nibblenibblenibbles. Then, after a few seconds: "Yer patrol ready fer departure, Rah? The infirmary on its way t' packed up?"
Jarril pads back with a beaker and sits back down again. Giving a sip he sighs and places it onto the wooden table, paws resting on the side of the beaker, listening to the conversation.
Rahier watches Zoe's nervous nibbling with a glance. "Ah heh. He always was th'reclusive sort, eh? Maybe he's jus' gone f'a walk an' met some baddies along th'way. Y'know how they are." Heh. ;p He hands the parchment back to her, nodding. "Yeh, I got everyone on it. Soleil's more'n capable of kickin' everyone's tails into motion when I'm not around." Grin. He glances at Jarril. "Whadda you think?"
"Aye. Good, good..." Zoe keeps her replies short, and the parchment is tucked away into a pocket as she turns to regard Jarril in expectation of his reply to Rah's question.
Jarril sips his cider. "Well, badger lords have always been weird in the way of going off without a word. Maybe he had something to go do? Doesn't mean not finding him where there had been a battle has anything to say he's..." The major stops, takes another sip and licks his lips. "What I mean, he's probably chasing some that ran away. You know what some bad beasts are like. Bullies that can't take it, wot."
Rahier grins. "That's it, o' course." >.> Hope. XD "..Y'seen 'im figh'. I'm inclined t'feel pity on th'half o' whoever crossed his path, I am." Eh heh. Ahem. Rahier folds his paws on the table, looking to Zoe. "..Is everyone else gonna find out? 'Bout Blud."
"Eventually. Just figured we'd give 'em some time t' adjust t' the fact that we're leavin' all o' a sudden." Especially as it's just when they're finally doing some meaningful work.
Jarril nods his head. "Most are happy ta get back anyways. Some left family when they came out here and all." The major nods slowly while taking a bigger gulp of his ale.
Rahier sniffs. Grunt. "Better keep m'trap shut, then." The buck gives a grin and a wink. ;p "Else it'll be out like wildfire. So." He stands, from the bench, taking a step back. "I better go'n see t'things. See little o' y'two if y'ain't in th'infirmary, if I don't miss m'guess." He snickers, before giving a casual salute, and walks toward the door.
Zoe_Lang nods to Rahier as he stands, "Likely'll be keepin' m'self busy at Redwall, so I s'pose I'll see ya once we're 'bout ready t' head out, next." The doe offers a slight grin, saluting. "Evenin', Rah."
Jarril nods and smiles. "Me, I am set anyways. Probably set out early with my lot." He nods his head at Rahier and stays where he is sitting at the table.
"G'eve, Colonel, Major," Rahier says, glancing briefly back over his shoulder at the pair, and tosses a parting wave with his paw, before he steps out into the intersection.
Zoe_Lang, too, stands, nodding to Jarril. "S'pose I ought t' go make sure Miette's not escaped from the dormitory, again. She's a bit o' a tendency t' come lookin' fer me if'n I'm not abou'." She takes a step back from the table.
Jarril nods. "Night, Colonel." Smiling. "If I don't
see ya around, I probably see ya back at the mountain. I put my patrol
down for leaving early and all."
