Salamandastron: Infirmary
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This is the infirmary for the long patrol. This room is one of
the most
well lit rooms in the whole of Salamandastron, with several candles
placed
strategically along the shelves and cupboards. Many wooden beds
line the
walls of this room, each outfitted with impeccably clean white linen
sheets. This unfortunately limits the walking space in this room.
Where
there are not beds there are shelves and cabinets that hold a variety
of
different medical equipment, mostly needles and bandages. A single
stone
sink is firmly lodged into one of the counters. The sink is not
fancy, in
fact it is quite awkward. It is a necessity, nonetheless. An
open closet
is in the corner of the room, storing a surplus of compact cots, in
the
unusual case of mass injuries. The room usually has several nurse hares
in
it, roaming around tending to various injuries.

[Herb] Room
Coming in slowly into the infirmary, the major looks about at the various hares who had been sent into the room since the patrol and bites his lower lip. Moving over to one of the healers, he whispers to him for a few moments and points to where Zoe is. "How is she?" He enquires.
"Oh, -she's- fine...." Eyes rolling, the healer shakes her head a bit and smiles at Jarril. "You can go see her, if'n you'd like.." Zoe currently lies on her cot, her upper torso slightly propped up by pillows. Her right shoulder and upper chest are tightly bandaged, but other than that she looks her normal self, and every now and then she barks out an order to one of the healers, if she deems fit.
Jarril chuckles and nods his head. "Thanks." Padding over to where Zoe's cot is, he pulls up a small stool and sits down. "Morning, colonel. I see ya been keeping them busy?"
Stopping her orders for the time being, Zoe grins at Jarril mischieviously. "If'n they thought putting me in the -infirmary- of all places was going t' have me resting and relaxing..? They've another thing comin'." She chuckles, but only very softly as it hurts to even do that. "So, ah, how're -ye- feeling?"
Jarril looks about for a moment. "Our leader isn't exactly happy with us at the moment." He looks down. "Wasn't ya fault. I should've thought up another way ta get around that problem." Looking up again he smiles weakly. "Mind ya, it didn't help when ya go taking huge risks like that."
"Now, 'tis my body and if I feel like riskin' it to save anothah, well, I guess I will, doncha know?" She smirks slightly. "Anyway, the squirrel survived, didn't it? I'd say we did the bally ole job. And, well, there's only so much ye c'n do with vermin. I knew that anyone who stood up would be injured, so I jus' figured it ought t' be me 'stead of someone else."
Jarril frowns. "We had some of our own die yesterday, colonel." Pausing he sighs and relaxes. "Sorry, just a bit edgy after spending all last night informing the relatives and writing up multiple copies of the reports." Smiling slightly. "But ya right of course. I have been given new orders though. We're ta make sure that we don't lose anymore. So I am going ta double the numbers of a patrol to about 30 or so. We don't know if they're still in the area and if they are, we don't know where they are actually based."
Padding down the halls is Logain. Moving by a few hares here and there the large beast enters the infirmary slowly pressing the door open. He peers inside and steps in.
Frowning in return, Zoe regards Jarril quietly for a moment, but then
she speaks, softly. "Creatures die in battle. That's kind of the point,
lad. It certainly isn't enjoyable, but the only creatures at fault are
those vermin. They weren't usin' that squirrel to protect themselves. They
were using it so that they could -kill- us. I had an option of lettin'
it go on 'til they got bored and killed the squirrel or not. I chose."
She sighs a bit, and then nods in acknowledgement of the other things he's
said. "Good precautions, those. And I do hope we don't lose anymore, but
we likely will before this is over."
"...am I intruding?" Logain's voice echoes throughout the room despite trying to be quiet. The badger sits down on a cot, glancing around before his eyes fall on Jarril and Zoe once more. "You fought well."
Jarril turns his head to Logain and smiles. "Nah, ya not intruding my friend." Turning to face Zoe, he grins. "This badger here was the turning point. They weren't prepared ta fight once he turned up. Name's Logain. He and a sea otter, Iomega that helped us get the injured back are staying in the mountain as guests. My orders really." He goes quiet and hopes he's done right. "Did they say how long ya be out of action?"
"I hope with myself being here it will not gain you any disrespect or get you into any trouble my friend." Logain nods as he adjusts one of his bandages on his leg and watches the two hares, ears flattened against his large skull.
Glancing over towards Logain, Zoe offers a grin, "'Course they weren't. No one messes with a badger, doncha know?" And then, returning her attention to Jarril, she nods a bit. "I'm sure Bludstripe will welcome them. It isn't often he has the opportunity to share a few stories with anothah badger, wotwot. He's probably tired of havin' to look down at all of us." And then, pausing, she jerks her non-injured shoulder up in something resembling a shrug. "Not so long as the healers would like. I'll decide when I'm no longer 'out of action'."
Jarril hmms for a moment and whispers something to Zoe. "Blud didn't want to see the badger at the time, I think he was in a bad mood before my news, wot."
Jarril looking around he looks at Logain. "I take it ya been well looked after and well fed?"
"Yes. I have spent some time in the library reading. This may sound...strange my friend but.." Logain tilts his head. "I believed Salamandstron and the hares to be of myth...." He blinks.
Smirking slightly at what Jarril has whispered, she returns the whisper, softly. "I'll have a talk with 'im.." She's not so concerned about Logain hearing that, though. "Ahh, the library, eh? 'Tis one of my favorite places in the mountain. I'll recommend some good reads to ya, when I get outta here, if'n ye'd like. Give ya a chance t' read up on this 'myth'." She grins.
"I have never seen so many books in one place in all my life you see?" Logain tilts his head abit. "Two things I love most...reading and being within the wilderness, watching a small stream pass..listening to the sounds of nature." He nods. "It was good was it not I came when I did?"
Jarril smiles and ponders that one and nods his head. "Oh, no doubt ya be able ta read all about the strong long patrol and what happens when it awakens." He frowns slightly and mutters. "Which I fear that we're about ta be awoken if we haven't already." Changing the subject quickly. "How did ya find the old hare in the library? He's a bit angry sometimes, but he's mostly harmless though."
Zoe_Lang snorts derisively "Harmless my foot.. Before this battle, most o' the hares comin' in here were afflicted with boxed ears and smashed fingers from him slamming books on 'em. He's a hazard, 'e is." She smirks.
Jarril turns his head to Zoe and smirks. "They weren't fast enough ta get away, where they?"
"But wise. One would be smart to listen to the old. Not all they say is ramblings my friend." Logain waches Zoe and smirks. "I doubt the old hare would try and slam my paws within his books..course..would not have a book large enough to do so."
Jarril ponders that one. "Oh there are a few." The hare thinking of the manuscripts the badger lords of the past had written in them, one in particular that wrote several books during his stay at the mountain, preferring to write when not defending the mountain.
"Fast enough? He -sneaks-, I tell ye.. Why, in my early days he got -me- a few times... And no, I don't imagine he'd dare t' slam -your- paws in any books.." The colonel shifts her position slightly, and manages to refrain from wincing. "But Jarril's right. There're a few large 'nough.."
Jarril sits there and just listens to the colonel talking and nods his head a few times.
"I would not mind reading those books at that." Logain grins. "When your Lord and I shall meet, it will be interesting will it not?" He tilts his head. "Most would be wise to just walk away then to show violence upon me or my friends. If the vermin had not struck at me, I may have not entered the fray."
Jarril tightens his mouth slightly. "I would've fought ta the death if it meant that squirrel was freed from her slavery prison, wot!" His face looks stern for a moment and relaxes. "Sorry, my apologies. The hares I have come from have had problems with sea pirates and their raids from the seas."
A touch of a frown colors Zoe's expression at Logain's last admission, but it quickly subsides and she nods. "That is a decision only one's self c'n make, wot." But, noting Jarril's like reaction, she smiles slightly. He's definitely got Long Patrol blood in him. "My family has had troubles, as well. Vermin, corsairs or not, will always be a problem t' everyone."
Jarril smiles and nods at Zoe. "Aye, we give anyone blood 'n' vinegar if they mess with anyone that can't fight back."
"You have another paw in your battle with the Corsairs my friends. If they harm another or threaten the Long Patrol and Salamandstron, I will stand and fight by your sides. It would be a honor." Logain nods his head.
"And it would be an honor t' have ye, friend.. You are welcome t' stay here fer as long as ye like." She inclines her head to the badger politely, amused. "Though it will be interestin' having another male badger about the mountain. I'm sure the two of ye will get along jus' fine, though."
Jarril looks at Zoe for a moment and stares before turning his head back to the badger and nods his head. "Yes, I am sure ya two will get along."
"I am unsure...I have not seen another badger since I was about five seasons..." Logain rubs his left thigh lightly. "But if anything, it will be a interesting learning experiance."
Zoe_Lang grins wryly at Logain. "Well, if Blud doesn't play nicely, I'll just send him t' the corner like I do with his young son, Kulos. I'm sure we c'n persuade him to a... friendly manner." She looks to Jarril, her eyes bright with amusement.
Jarril rolls his eyes as to say, 'I am not getting into this plan of yours, Zoe.'
"You need not worry of me not playing nicely. I will show the Lord the proper respect. If he shows me little or none, I shall leave with no quarrel. You have my word." Logain nods.
'Hmphing', Zoe shakes her head. "You'll do no such thing. Bludstripe may be our Lord, but I c'n still dress him down nicely enough. He'll play nicely, or -I'll- box his ears. Besides, I'm certain he'll want t' thank ye for yer service to the Long Patrol."
Jarril gets up and moves to some table and pours a glass of water. "Oh I think he show the proper respect ta his guest, I am sure." Moving back, he hands the cup to Zoe and smiles, sitting down again with a chuckle.
Taking the offered cup, Zoe raises it slowly to her lips, still stiff, and takes a sip. "Thank ye, Jarril."
"I hope so." Logain nods abit. "To scuffle with the Lord of the Long Patrol does not sound..fun." He chuckles.
Jarril nods slowly. "I saw Preypacer earlier just after breakfast. I think she enjoyed herself yesterday. Spoke highly of ya as well, Colonel."
Arching a brow, Zoe glances at Jarril with slight interest. "Oh, she did, did she? Found me sufficient at 'standing up', eh?"
"Or rather falling down." Logain chuckles.
"Oh, tch, I thought the 'standing up' bit was my best part." She grins fondly at Logain, shrugging, "The falling down was just an added bonus, doncha know?"
Jarril grins at Zoe for a moment. "Aye, was mightily impressed. Was impressed ya chose a good major as well." The hare beaming slightly on that one but he coughs. "However, ya know how it goes, ya all lying here and resting while I had ta go and write up reports and more reports." His voice goes sullen. "Didn't like informing the loss ta some of the hares that were expecting their family or love ones ta come back though. Should've seen the anger in their eyes, was enough ta make any beast back away."
"I personally like the fleeing of vermin as I charged recklessly into battle part best, but you did very well my friend." Logain chuckles again.
Growing solemn, Zoe regards Jarril quietly for a moment. "The families will be all righ', Jarril. You know they all have our support. Anyway, anger is bettah used than anguish. The anger will protect 'em."
Jarril nods and gets up. "Well, I have ta get going, more stuff
ta get done and all." He looks to the both and smiles. "Nice
chatting with ya Logain, colonel." With that he heads back out.
