Salamandastron: Jarril's Dormitory(#212959RA)
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This is one of the dormitories of the mountain of Salamandastron.
The
room is sparsely furnished, the perilous hare that inhabits it no doubt
too busy to have time to collect many things. A small oak table
is on one
side of the room with four chairs made of cherry wood sitting around
it.
Against the opposite wall sits a mattress, barely more than a sturdy
rectangular sack of carefully stuffed with hay. Another oaken
door rather
near the bed leads off to a small closet.

Dotty rushes into Jarril's room, the door hitting the back wall she comes in with such a force, "Jarril! Jarril! We're in! We're going!!
Lying on the bed he jumps slightly with a start and looks at the direction of the fast approaching Dotty and blinks his eyes. "Going? Going where?" He slowly slips around and sits up, rubbing his eyes. "And oh, I think ya may have left a imprint of the door in my wall, wot." Grinning.
Dotty turns to the wall, and grumbles, "oh! never mind that, you git! Bludstripe is takin' us to the Abbey! We're gonna attack the vermin!
Dotty she grins happily, sitting down in a seat at the table, letting him take it in.
Jarril moves slowly and pulls out from underneath his mattress the broken dirk and holds each piece in both paws. "And here's me without a weapon as well. Don't think my mother's dirk will be used again for that purpose." He throws the pieces to the ground and looks up. "Sorry, I should've said before. Don't think there be time ta get this fixed."
Dotty looks up with a sorrowful look on her face. "Oh-Jarril..." she gets up and hugs him, and then holds him back at arms-length, "Why didn't you say...no. It's okay. You can use one of mine, alright?
Jarril looks at Dotty and shrugs. "No one asked and well. Someone would probably want me ta throw it away." He bends down and picks the pieces up again. "Something I also didn't want ta happen, wot." His face moves to a smile slowly as he lets his whiskers quiver. "But I do like the news though."
Dotty smiles, and sits down on the edge of his bed, "Good...I have a bunch of weapons that you could pick from; ok? And the news is...great!
Jarril turns to face Dotty. "You like war? Fought before then?" He looks away for a moment. "I have fought before and lost, hence the dirk being broken and well I kinda laid out the vermin that did it and ran. Didn't fancy fighting a armed foe unarmed, doncha know. Anyways. I haven't been in a real battle though. I suppose I get ta find out what it is like when the time comes." He grins. "So what food did ya bring me?"
Dotty nods a bit, "Aye. I don't necessarily *like* it, but I have been in it. While I was comin' ere I was ambushed by vermin , and got a good taste o' what battle is like. An' I also inherited all the weapons my mother and pater had...so that was a bunch. " she smiles, and stands up, stretching, "I'm sure I've got summat for ya...come on."
Dotty has left.

Jarril runs into the room as he keeps up with Dotty no problem and smiles. "Oh? So this is where all the stolen food from the kitchens lie, wot!" He smirks and leans against the door frame. "How much will you give me for not telling the cooks ta search this room." Winking.
Dotty rummages through her russack, and comes up with two:laughs, and then goes to her russack where she retrieves two tiny cheese filled tarts. She licks her lips, and hands one to Jarril, "Mmmm. I got these this mornin', wot." she takes a bite out of hers, and swallows, "An' I'll keep givin' you food if you won' tell!
Jarril looks at the cheese filled tart and sniffs it as in thinking. "Hmmm. Ta have food or not ta have food. That is the problem, wot. Mabbe I will, mabbe I won't, doncha know my answer? Well I have ta say it will be." He tosses the tart into the air and moves his head upwards, opening his mouth and moves about before it vanishes as it lands in his open maw and he closes it, chewing and swallowing. Moving his head back again, he smiles. "Okay, I won't tell, for now." Smiling.
Dotty grins, shoving the rest of the tart in her mouth, and chewing slowly. While chewing, she reaches underneath of her bed, and pulls out a wooden box about half the size of her legs. She pulls it open, and gestures for Jarril to come closer. Inside are more than half a dozen weapons ranging from dirks to daggers. "This is all of it...what do ya think? Take yer pick.
Jarril pads over and looks inside of the box and hmms slightly, making some movements with his paw to rub under his chin and bends down to pick one up and stops. "No I couldn't. I be too afraid I break one, wot."
Dotty squats down beside him, and nods, "Go ahead, Jar. i already 'ave mine, an' I would ne'er forgive myself if you couldn' go with us 'cause you didn't have a weapon...and I have lots.
Jarril turns his head sideways and faces you for a moment. "You hardly know me. Why all the interest?" He turns his head and begins to go through the various dirks and daggers.
Dotty shrugs, and thinks for a bit, "I'm really not sure...jus' I think that las' night somethin' clicked while we were talkin'. I think we were meant to be friends 'ere.
Jarril chuckles. "Heh, perhaps that one is correct. Besides we're both new, live pretty much near ta each other and all." He picks up a dirk and tests it out by balancing it in his paw. "Besides I have ya ta blame for giving me wierd dreams of ya and a rolling pin."
Dotty falls back on her rear, and laughs hard, "Really? Well, serve's y'right for thinkin' that I will *ever* be like that..." she laughs again, but sits up s little to look at the dirk in his hand, "Y'like that one?
Jarril doesn't reply right at first and slowly nods his head. "I think so. Yes, I think this will do me pretty well ta be honest. All I need ta do now is make a sling and get some pebbles." He turns his head to face you and smiles. "Always best ta have some sort of long range weapon when ya can't get near ya enemy, wot!"
Dotty grins, "Aye. yer right there...I think I'm gonna use my dirk and sling as well.
Jarril laughs as he gets up into a standing position. "Seems, we have a lot in common, doncha think?"
Dotty look sat him from down on the floor, "I s'pose so," she puts the lid back onto the box, and shoves it under her bed...all the way to the opposite wall.
Jarril pauses and looks down. "What's the matter? I thought that was a good thing?"
Dotty smiles and nods her head, standing up, "Oh, 'tis. never said it wasn't.
Jarril lets his ears twitch and nods with a smile. "Oh jolly good show then. We both show them how we can fight and kick them out of Redwall, wot!" He holds up the dirk and smiles broadly. "Thanks for the dirk and all. I take bally well good care of it. On my heart."
Dotty places her hand on her hips, and smiles, "I b'lieve ya." thinking for a bit, she wanders over to the window and looks out, "Mmm...full moon. That's pretty..." she shrugs, and turns back to Jarril, "Now what d'we do? Anythin' t'talk about?
Jarril hmms and pads about the dormitory. "Oh, I don't know. Could go ta the top of the mountain and look at the full moon if ya wish." He stops and puts the dirk into his belt and chuckles. "Beats staying indoors and the fresh air will help excited minds on sleeping soundly. Don't want ta feel all tired when we get marching. I heard we march long and hard."
Dotty nods her head and puts an arm towards the door, "Let's go, then!

This is the main intersection chamber on the third level of the mountain's
catacomb-like tunnels. Numerous passages lead off in all directions
from
the almost perfectly round clearing, hewn into the living rock.

Dotty smiles at Amby, and then turns to Jarril, "Jarril, this is one o' my friends, Amby...Amby, this is Jarril.
Amby smiles. "Always good to meet a Long Patrol Hare.
Jarril bows his head and smiles. "Same here." He comes up again slowly and smiles. "Slowly getting used ta the place, wot."
Dotty grumbles a bit, "Y'think those two could serioously et a *room* or something...or at least go to their dorms..." she sighs, and frowns, "I really wanted t'see that moon.
Amby looks as if he's going to say something, but then he decides not to ask.
Jarril smiles and shrugs his shoulders. "Well, like my pata used ta say ta me. There's never a problem that ya can't sort yaself, wot. We just go outside and all onto the beach and see it from there."
Dotty smiles, and nods to Amby, "Care t'join us?
Amby smiles. "Should I leave you two alone out there as well?"
Jarril blinks and stares at Dotty and then Amby, then gives one of his confused looks.
Jarril droops both of his ears and speaks softly. "Don't tell me that sort of rumour is going about the mountain is it?"
Amby decides to change the subject. "Well... How about that moon what?
Dotty rolls her eyes and puts her hands on her hips, fed up with other hares, "Are we *going*?"
Amby laughs. "If there were rumors going around the mountain, I'd be the last to know."
Dotty laughs, knowing how true it is
Kenai comes from the passage leading up to the Crater.
Kenai has arrived.
Kenai goes down the passage leading to the Infirmary.
Kenai has left.
Spritz comes from the passage leading up to the Crater.
Spritz has arrived.
Spritz goes down the passage leading to the Infirmary.
Spritz has left.
Dotty jerks up at the sight of the two hares, "Let's go up there!
Amby asks, "Shall we go up to the crater then?"
Salamandastron: Crater
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
You are on the very top of the mountain of Salamandastron: a large,
bowl-
shaped crater. The crater is not smooth, quite the contrary in
fact.
Numerous boulders and large chunks of rock are strewn around randomly,
making the crater top just as craggy as any of the mountainside.
The
crater provides an outstanding view of the surrounding country.
The sea
sprawls off to the west as far as the eye can see, and north and south
along the endlessly rolling sand dunes. In the distant east,
a tinge of
green is just visible from this height, marking the vegetation in the
foothills of the Western Mountains.

Dotty gazes syward at the looming full moon, and sits down on a large flat boulder. She manages to mutter one word, "Wow.
Amby just stares up at the cold orb that rules the night.
Jarril comes up from the top step and places his paw on one of the boulder and pulls himself up and takes a big deep breath in. "Ah, sea air does wonders ta yaself, doncha know." He pads about and stands near the edge, placing a paw on one of the boulders and leans down slightly, placing a elbow near to his knee.
Jarril looks about at the moon and stars and nods his head as he see's a shooting star flash across the sky. "Can't argue with that one."
Amby says, "Yes... It's amazing. I've never stopped to look at it before. I've never just noticed how beautiful it is..."
Dotty smiles happily, her knees tucked up, and her chin resting on them, "Aye...I didn't know if I would like it here...but I certainly do.
Jarril nods his head. "Aye and hopefully we get back ta here as well after going off ta Redwall." He goes back quiet again and looks out towards the sea and lets the cool night breeze blow across him and making his ears move about slightly.
Amby says, "There's something about this mountain... I don't know what it is... But it sure is something..."
Amby exclaims, "Oh good! I was wondering when we'd be off to Redwall. Any word on how soon?"
Dotty nods, knowing what Amby is talking about. She also thinks about what Jarril just said...he's right.
Dotty looks up, thinking deep about the march. "We may never come back," she murmurs to herself
Jarril pipes up now. "Well, we better make sure that we do, wot!" He turns around and smiles broadly. "Best not ta think on what will happen but live the day as it is now." He sits down on the boulder and looks about. "Nice night though for this time of the season."
Amby sighs. "I hope everyone comes back. So they can see the moon like this again. It's odd, when I think about death... It's the little things like this I think I'd miss the most."
Dotty nods, putting a smile on her face, though the idea still gnaws a bit at the back of her mind, "True....true.
Jarril looks at Dotty and begins to show a bit of concern on his features. Getting up slowly he pads over and sits down next to her and speaks softly. "I didn't meant ta give ya nasty thoughts in that pretty head of yours, wot. We be okay I think. Probably worrying about nothing, ya see."
Dotty smiles, truthfully this time, "Thanks, Jar. I'm not *too* worried...it's just that it brings back lotsa memories of my first battle...those vermin lmos' killed me.
Jarril grins. "Oh they had a good try at me as well, the rotten toads. Breaking my dirk on the way here. Nasty slimy things. Disgusting habits as well, wot." He looks up at the sky again. "Always say never try and teach a toad, table manners. Doesn't work."
Amby says, "Hmmmm... Never been in a real battle. A few skirmishes here and there, but never a real battle. Most of the time it was just me and some thieves."
Dotty laughs, "Yeah...can't wait for this one, though...really. it will be exciting; no matter how frightening.
Jarril nods slowly and thinks. "I have heard tales of them. Seems that there is a city on the other side facing the east sea that has thieves living there." He looks at the stars and continues to speak. "My pata had heard tales of a hare that was evil and stole from others. Even murdered, but then I couldn't believe that, wot. A evil hare acting verminist. It's just not possible."
Dotty shrugs, "S'pose anythings possible, though.
Amby raises an eyebrow. "An evil hare? Jolly strange..."
Dotty sits back, turning to look at Jarril, "How long ago?
Jarril nods slowly. "Don't know how true that tale is but before I left, we did hear that the hare actually is still alive and all. Was in their city dungeons facing a death sentence so the squirrel told us." He frowns. "If I could only think of the name of the hare and city." He taps a paw finger on his nose a few times in concertration.
Jarril replies to Dotty. "I think the hare is about 22 seasons old now. Maybe 24 seasons. Who can tell, it's about that long since we heard tales that he started when he was a dibbun after losing both parents and having vermin who fostered him." He remains quiet again as if thinking.
Dotty nods slowly, reamining quiet.
Amby says, "I have to say, that's the jolly strangest thing I've ever heard in m'life if I do say so."
Jarril ears perk up. "Oh that's right. Collinsel is the city name. Ya know? The one that has woodlanders and vermin living tagether. The hares name is Ryssa Swiftwood." Glad that he had remembered the details of the tale he had heard of many seasons ago as a leveret.
Dotty gasps, "Ryssa? I think I've...no...I couldn't have.
Jarril blinks at Dotty. "Couldn't have what?"
Dotty shakes her head, "Nevermind...just my over-active imagination.
Jarril shrugs somewhat and smiles. "Oh okay." He looks out towards the sea and blinks a few times. "Ever wondered what is out there?" His paw moving to point out towards the water.
Dotty shrugs, "I dunno....maybe another Salamandastron is out there somewhere...or summat.
Jarril laughs and waves his paw in the air. "Oh, then I suppose I am jolly well waving ta myself, wot." Smirking slightly.
Dotty smirks, "Why not?
Jarril stops waving and moves his head slightly at a angle. "You're not joking are ya?"
Dotty shakes her head, still smirking, "Nope.
Dotty looks to Amby, "Whatya think? Think it might be so?
Amby shrugs. "Like you said before. Anything's possible.
Dotty smiles, "I'm glad to see *someone* agrees with me!
Jarril rolls his eyes. "Oh come on. Ya can't be seriously thinking that there are two of us in the world?" He stops and shakes his head, blushing. "Okay, ya pulling my tail..."
Amby says, "Yeah. One of me is quite enough."
Dotty shakes her head, "Not two of us persay...but another Salamandastron...with different hares in it...but the same idea.
Jarril hmms and looks out. "Well, we may never know for sure what does lie out there. May be some hidden colonies or somethink but we are here anyways."
Amby says, "Hmmmmm... I heard a beast say he came from across the sea. Wonder what that place is like?""
Dotty thinks, "That would be interesting...
Jarril blinks. "Who came from across the sea?"
Amby says, "Some otter from somewhere..."
Dotty shrugs, and stands up to stretch her legs.
Jarril smiles. "Oh. Probably all different no doubt. Pity ya didn't write everything down he had ta say on the matter."
Amby crinkles his nose. "Why would I carry around writing materials?"
Dotty laughs, "it was jjust a suggestion..
Jarril grins and gets up himself now and pads back over to the edge of the mountain.
Dotty walks around, her paws rubbing her arms, "But nippy up here now, isnt it?
Jarril looks back and nods, giving off a slight yawn. "I suppose so. I think I better go head down and catch some good sleep. Don't want ta end up falling asleep during a march now, do I?" He smirks. "Wouldn't go down too well with the superiors."
Dotty smiles, and waves, "'Night, then.
Amby smiles. "Nighty Night."
Jarril nods and makes his way slowly towards the stairs and turns around.
"Don't get up to anything, will you?" Smirking and vanishing down
the stairs quickly before Dotty can respond to that one with a laugh coming
from the entrance below, Jarril making quickly down into the mountain it
seems.
