Proteus Productions started life as a small woodland shrew in a Gulag, but it prefers not to talk about it…
Since then it has grown into an amorphous being which encapsulates everything that is exciting about live theatre: It's bold, it's brash, and it even occasionally makes statements that leave you pondering your existence.
The basic idea behind Proteus is that a group of theatre enthusiasts meet every two weeks, and split into groups of 3-10 people, with each group consisting of a writer, a director and a Mötley Crüe of actors. The groups then write, direct and rehearse a 5-10 minute piece that they perform to an ever-growing audience (in excess of 100 people some weeks) two weeks later. The whole process is then repeated ad infinitum (or at least until the end of term).
Previous sketches have included:
- 'Santa is Dead'
- 'Prince Charming's Complaint'
and of course the epic
- 'Madam Palm's Four Lovely Daughters, and her Twat of a Thumb'.
Proteus is continually looking for new members, so if you want to get involved then come along to one of our productions, or email Ben Alborough and come and help make the magic happen.
