Serving the District of Hravsta, Dubrovnik Animal Shelter on The hills of Bosanka outside Dubrovnik do a mammoth job of taking care of hundreds of homeless and abandoned animals. If you can help in anyway please contact us

Dubrovnik is a wonderful place, full of history, some very recent and very traumatic. One large feature of Dubrovnik is its population of cats and dogs. Unlike some of the places that have been visited over the years, most of these cats and dogs get fed and looked after. During my visit I encountered many recent neutering and heard of a campaign on Facebook aimed at, and succeeding in, stopping the government culling the stray dogs.

High on a mountain top about 3 miles out of town was a sanctuary run by one person, Sandra, and her sister. as we drove towards it, the scale of the place was mind-blowing. there were dogs in several compounds. This pair have 260 dogs in their care! Sandra also told me she has 69 cats living at her home. Her rescue centre is the only one in the region.

Homing is difficult because Croatia isn't a pet nation hence the numbers. The sanctuary gets donations of food and the vets near-by are very helpful to her but the task she faces is truly mammoth
