Louis
is a very experienced consultant and is able to deal with clients at all levels
of the organisation. Prior to joining Cranfield as a Senior Lecturer he worked
as an independent consultant on the following from Aug 1999-Mar 2001:
Virgin
Atlantic:
A lot of
his early work during this period involved training and supporting Crawley-based
revenue management analysts in the use of PROS (Passenger Revenue Optimisation
System – a PC-based passenger demand forecasting and fare mix optimisation
system which Louis was very familiar with following his six years at Cathay
Pacific). Louis initially taught a series of two-week, hands-on, end-user
training courses to small groups of analysts. As well as teaching them how to
use the system, he also made sure they learned enough about the principles of
probability and statistics necessary to enable them to understand what the
mathematical models in the PROS system were doing. His training material also
covered the business process aspects necessary to support effective system
implementation, since the practice of revenue management can be undermined by
inappropriate business processes. Following the period of formal classroom
training, Louis was available to Virgin analysts to help them get used to using
this system in their day to day work. The Virgin implementation was successful,
and Louis went on to do other ad hoc airline consultancy work.
IT
Consulting for other Airlines (Air India, Qatar Airways, Air Malta, Royal Air
Maroc):
Further series of Revenue Management Systems lectures followed in Mumbai,
India for Air India, and in Doha, Qatar for Qatar Airways. These lectures varied
in terms of both content and audience, with some presentations tailored to
senior/top management, some to end-user analysts, and some to personnel from
other parts of the organisation affected by revenue management process (eg
sales, airports, accounting, scheduling). Air Malta and Royal Air Maroc were
also clients during this period.
Regular
Training courses for Cranfield University, Stephen Shaw & Associates (SSA),
Airbus:
Cranfield, SSA and Airbus frequently ran courses on airline economics on
which Louis was a regular invited speaker, lecturing on the principles of
revenue management and on the use of revenue management systems. Louis was also
a regular speaker on Master of Science courses run by Cranfield, speaking mainly
on the subject of Airline Network Analysis (using Linear Programming techniques
to identify optimal loads / traffic flows for traffic across a network). He
continues now to lecture at Cranfield in a more expanded role. Louis’ Revenue
Management training has been a feature of Airbus Air Transport Seminars since
1999.
Organising
the annual Reservations and Yield Management Study Group (RYMSG) Conference for
AGIFORS:
Louis also has considerable experience of organising international
conferences. The RYMSG conference is held every spring and attracts about 120
delegates for a 4-day meeting. Serving as chairman of this study group over past
years has given Louis a high profile in the airline industry.
European
Union sponsored Training for Chinese Carriers:
Louis has also delivered two-day training courses on Revenue Management in
Toulouse on behalf of Euresas (European Centre for the Aerospace and Aviation
Industries). This was part of an EU programme aimed at promoting greater
economic cooperation between the EU and China. He has since been asked back to
repeat this course (now translated into Chinese) to other cohorts of Chinese
students.
