Louis' first management appointment in this Oxford-based, start-up company.
Responsible for developing and delivering training material for PROLOG
programming and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques courses. Contributed to
pre/post sales support for PC and VAX PROLOG implementations and ESP-Advisor (a
PC based expert systems shell). Recruited and led a team of three trainers and
one admin / sales assistant. This training group contributed more revenues than
any other part of this 17-person start-up company, though ESI subsequently
folded in 1988.

Responsible for developing and delivering training material for DbaseIII
programming courses, and for training on a wide range of word processing,
spreadsheet and database applications. Wrote company’s own, in-house inventory
control system in DbaseIII. Won company recognition as “Most Productive
Trainer”. Studied PROLOG programming and artificial intelligence techniques.

Programmer/Analyst (BASIC) reporting to Deputy Headmaster (Feb 84 – Feb 85)
Responsible for developing educational software in BASIC for deaf children
ranging from pre-school to secondary school age. Wrote a computer based training
program to introduce pre school children to sign language. Technical support for
speech therapists. Some teaching support.

Programmer/Analyst (Dbase II) reporting to Technical Support Manager (Dec 82 –
Feb 84)
Responsible for pre / postsales
support for one of the first UK PC dealerships. Developed an inventory control
system for the Emperor Clock Company. Delivered much informal, ad hoc
“Introduction to PCs” IT training to clients getting started with computing.

Full time student on intensive, three month City and Guilds Programming Course
which taught BASIC and COBOL programming. Passed course and immediately found
employment in the computer industry.

Responsible for teaching Psychology, General Science, Biology and Physics at
O’level to 16-18 year old school leavers on vocational courses (eg nursing,
catering). Sat and passed Further Education Teacher’s Certificate exam.
