Shinfield Rangers V Burghfield Blues

At the end of this game, both managers agreed that the score did not reflect the balance of play. The game started out very close but Burghfield better discipline in terms of positional play and marking made a big difference. First half 'keeper, Scott Harman, proved he is an all-rounder, pulling of many great saves and big clearances. Centre forward, Trey Mattingly and Anton Miller seemed to be everywhere, and occasionally where they should have been, but were the Shinfield's outstanding players in terms of determination. From the middle of the first half, Burghfield took control and seemed to score whenever they went forward. Shinfield's chances were few and far between, but there were some good moves when Liam Prowse and Lewis Dalimore managed to link up. The second half was much closer with defenders James Miller and Thomas Robinson keeping the marking much tighter, and super-sub Gurveer Nirwal also slotting in well in only his second game. Anton Miller took over goalkeeping duties allowing Scott Harman to get involved in midfield, creating a lot more opportunity for Lewis and Liam to get forward. Despite conceding a couple of goals, Lewis Dalimore managed to got on to one forward pass to score for Shinfield, ensuring they continue their run of scoring in every game. Shinfield's player of the match goes to Trey Mattingly, who will now play in midfield to allow him to go wherever he wants.

Team: Shinfield Rangers U7 Division: 1 Opponents: Westwood Wanderers A fantastic game, played in the best of spirits between two very closely matched teams. For Shinfield Rangers, playing his first full game of the season, Thomas Robinson played a key role in breaking up some of the Westwood attaches. Playing along side Thomas in defence was Anton Miller, who managed to cover a lot of ground and put in timely tackles to prevent scoring opportunities. Trey Mattingly did particularly well in linking between defence and attack and now looks to make the centre midfield his position for keeps. Westwood battled hard and put Shinfield under a lot of pressure during the first period. There were goals (but we are not allowed to talk about them - thanks FA). But in this game, Shinfield played as a complete team with plenty of running off the ball, plenty of passing and lots of pride and passion. Key in taking the team forward were Zack White, who has to be one of the best in the league, Scott Harman, who's attitude and ability continues to impress all who see him and Lewis Dallimore, proving he is a naturally forward player with lots of energy. Whilst it was difficult to pick, there were two players who stood out. Liam Prowse won his second award in two weeks for his effort and commitment in creating opportunity up front and helping his defence when necessary. Liam has demonstrated this on many occasions before, but in this game his effort was truly exceptional. The surprise player of the day was however, James Miller who, as the shortest player in the team, put in an incredible performance in his first ever game in goal. Having only 10 minutes during the warm up to learn the art of the position, James proved he could listen and learn from coaching and, had he not have done so Westwood would have scored many more goals. As such, James wins the "train to game", the award given to the player who in the game, shows the most learnt on the training field (even if it was in the warm up).

14/09/08 Thatcham Tornadoes 'A' 8 - 0 Shinfield Rangers FC

The scoreline doesn't do our first game for the Under 17's any justice at all. This very tough encounter with the champions of division one gave our boys a good game. We battled til the end with only 11 players (the first time they played together as a team)Man of the match Carl Spiller kept the scoreline down to single figures with Thatcham having at least another 20 shots on target. Other contenders for man of the match Ryan Hunt and captain Nathan Clark were outstanding in their defence and Kieran Knight provided pace down the right hand side but, Thatcham proved too strong and fast, which you would expect from a division one team. Well done to the whole team, you should hold your heads high and be proud of yourselves. Team players were as follows: Carl Spiller, Nathan Clark, Ryan Hunt, James Maven-Hazelton, Kane Coleman, Kieran Knight, Jamie Lewendon, Thomas Coxhead, Jordan Rowe, Oliver Denny and Aaron Mata.

21/09/08 Thatcham Tornadoes 'B' 10 - 0 Shinfield Rangers

Starting with only 10 men was going to be a struggle for Shinfield. But for the first 10 minutes of the game Shinfield were all over Thatcham and we came very close to scoring the opener from a header from Ollie Denny. Thatchams first goal came by way of Ryan Hunt, our top 'own' goal scorer! Shinfields keeper Carl Spiller had to come off after 10 minutes due to having a 'dead leg' through a heavy challenge and played no further part in the game. Kieran Knight covered the goal keeping duties. Jamie Lewendon our midfielder rallied the team through enthusiasm and encouragement. Aaron Mata then moved into a defensive role leaving sole striker Liam Patrick who on occassions looked very close to scoring. In other years being down to 9 men would've disheartened the team. But they played with passion and pride with team captain and man of the match Nathan Clark leading the way by giving 110% as per usual. Jordan Rowe was happier in his natural position on the right wing, providing Liam with his opportunities as well as having his own chances. Kane Coleman played an important role in defense with his strong work alongside the other defenders. WE WILL GET THERE LADS!! First home game of the season next week.

Shinfield Rangers 2 - 6 Thatcham Town Harriers

A very evenly matched game which saw Shinfield having all the play 1st half. Thatcham scored their first goal on the 30 minute mark against play. Shinfields defence were quite lack lustre and Thatcham scored another 2 before the half time whistle. The 2nd half saw a rejuvenated Shinfield. Thatcham again score against play. Shinfields midfield improved in leaps and bounds with Liam Matthews return. Then came Nathan Clarks goal; Jamie Lewendon laid the ball off to Nathan who hammered it home towards the top corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.. Shinfield had a few more shots on target that were saved by the keeper. Man of the match Jordan Rowe sent a lovely ball into the area which was headed home by Carl Spiller.

Player line up as follows : Ryan Hunt, Jordan Rowe, Kane Coleman, Jamie Lewendon, Carl Spiller, Liam Patrick, Nathan Clark (C), Shaun Thomas, Liam Matthews, Scott Davies, James Maven-Hazelton

Westwood Wanderers 5 - 4 Shinfield Rangers

What a fabulous start to the game, we couldn't have asked for anything better. After 2 minutes of play Liam Patrick found the back of the net from a pass from Kieran Knight. Another 3 minutes passed and man of the match Kieran scored after a pass across goal from Liam P for him to tap home at close range. The game was then end to end before Westwood clawed one back. After a lapse of concentration from us they scored a 2nd to draw even. Another 10 minutes passed and Westwood scored again! Shinfield the replied with another well played goal from Kieran. Liam M also powered a shot from outside the box which was saved by the keeper. The opposition played hard and pulled another back to give Westwood the lead before the break. 2nd half started as the 1st half did with end to end football, the defence played a blinder with all the boys marking well and clearing their lines. More shots from Shinfield were on goal including one from Jamie L that unluckily came off the bar, then the breakthrough came with another Liam P goal. We were heading towards a draw when the referee gave Westwood a penalty for a very dubious handball in the area. Westwood drove the ball into the right of the net. Man of the match honours went to Kieran Knight for his prowess along the wing. What a great game boys, you should all be proud of yourselves.

Player line up as follows: Kieran Knight, Ryan Hunt, Liam Matthews, Jordan Rowe, Kane Coleman, Jamie Lewendon, Carl Spiller, Liam Partrick, Nathan Clark (captain), Oliver Denny, Aaron Mata.

Shinfield Rangers 2-6 Caversham AFC Colts

This game was played in absolutely appalling weather conditions with an understrength team. Through injuries and no shows Shinfield were already down to 10 men, when Callum Grover stepped into assist the team to make it full strengh. Shinfield played a very strong attacking game in the first half but left gaps in the midfield. Caversham exploited this along with the wind in their favour and by half time they were 2-0 up. 2nd half started brighter with Shinfield moving the ball around and becoming more aggressive. But Caversham were more positive and had more confidence. They went on to score another 4 goals. Shinfield scored 2 goals through Kieran Knight and a thunderous shot from Liam Matthews. Man of the match went to two people this week. Callum Grover for his outstanding defense work and to Liam Matthews for his more positive attitude and strength in the midfield.
