Our History:  EDRC was founded on 14 February 1963 by two professionals and eight one-horse amateurs. Fed up and frustrated by snow which fell on New Year's Day and lay until mid-March, these ten got together to form a riding club. Each contributed half a crown (25p) to fund a postal invitation to 100 known local enthusiasts to attend an introductory meeting. This immediately produced 50 members, paying a thirty-shilling (£1.50) subscription.

Teaching and training was not the industry it is now and membership increased rapidly as the club offered lectures, demonstrations and coaching by celebrities of the day - Pat Manning, Julia Wynmalen, Dick Stilwell and Charles Harris among others - as well as competitions in all disciplines, a summer show and even, for light relief, an occasional members' gymkhana.

The pattern continued throughout the 1970's, when membership peaked at over 300. Following the election in 1983 of a new Chairman who was also a listed (later List 1) dressage judge, interest shifted more to dressage. By this time there were two other well established riding clubs in the area offering a varied programme. In 1993, EDRC was one of several clubs to discontinue its affiliation to the British Horse Society and, although the club is now independent, a large proportion of today's members are members of British Dressage.

Our Aims:  We aim to cater for riders who are keen to improve their dressage skills, both in training and competition, at all levels. We are one of the few clubs which give riders to opportunity to compete in unaffiliated competitions from Preliminary level to Prix St. Georges or higher and to represent the club in team competitions. The emphasis is on having fun and gaining top quality experience in a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere and our shows and training days are designed to reflect this.
