Long Eaton Advertiser 03/04/08
A comic evening of two halves

RIVERSIDE Drama Company are back on stage with a comedy evening of two halves from April 10, to 12, in Long Eaton.

The shows start at 7.30pm at the Devonshire Studio, Chatsworth Centre, West Gate, Long Eaton.

This time Riverside are offering two one-act plays with Camp Confidence followed by Shakers.

Shakers, written by John Godber and Jane Thornton, offers a fascinating and often hilarious view of the reality which lurks behind the plastic palms and the pina colada of the cocktail bar.

We are given a funny glimpse of this world by the four long-suffering waitresses who work there.

Rushed off their feet, underpaid and over-worked, they try to smile and help the difficult customers while coping with their own personal problems.

Playing Adele will be Donna Chinn, Kay Davis is Carol, Charlotte Lloyd takes on the role of Mel, and Liz O'Hara plays Nicky.  Shakers is directed by Martin Holtom.

Preceding that in the first half of the night will be a performance of Camp Confidence.

Lacking in self esteem? Overwhelmed by the issues facing you? Then enrol in Camp Confidence.

That's what Maria (terrified of birds), Blanche (agoraphobic), Donna (single mum on probation) and Cherry (an obsessive cleaner) have done.

Led by the skilled but harassed Julia and her uncertain assistant Fiona, the four learn a great deal about each other and themselves and emerge happier and more secure in this gentle, warm-hearted comedy.

The part of Julia will be played by Sylvia Holmes with Rachael Taylor making her Riverside debut as Fiona.

Janet Lomas will play Donna, Liz O'Hara takes on the role of Maria, Blanche Hap is played by Moya Magee, Linda Ahern as Blanche Smellie and Maggie Millington completes the cast as Cherry.

Camp Confidence is written by Diana Raffle and directed by Liz Turner.

Tickets are now on sale priced £5 or £3.50 for concessions and are available on 0115 9170327 or 07793 765721, at the Saturday coffee mornings at Chatsworth Centre from 10am to noon, or visit www.riversidedrama.com.
