Ron, a prematurely retired head teacher, and his wife
Yvonne, a middle-aged would-be marathon runner, have bought
their first caravan and are trying it out on a downmarket
site near Scarborough. All is well until the peace is
shattered with the arrival of another caravan, a cross
between a chicken shed and beach hut. Ron and Yvonne listen
aghast to uninhibited shrieks of passion coming from the
rocking van, and rightly fear the worst - the neighbours
from hell have arrived! They meet fun girl Steph and amiable
slob, Grant (he breeds pit-bull terriers). The slightly
snobby Yvonne agrees to join Steph for a night out to watch
a male strip show and enters wholeheartedly into the spirit of things.
Gradually Ron and Yvonne are sucked into the other couple's lifestyle
and matters come to a head after a talent contest…John Godber is one of the best
observers of human behaviour around and he certainly knows
how to fool the audience into looking at themselves and then
laughing at their funny little ways. 'Perfect Pitch' is
about people coming together through the world of
caravanning, and it uses this world to explore other themes
including the class divide and disintegrating relationships.
