As always, June Barker is spot on
with her review of last week's performance at the Chatsworth and I can
add nothing to her words.
What I would wish to do is set
some comparison against other shows I have seen in recent months.
In London, this includes that
National Garrick, Comedy and Lyceum; Nottingham Playhouse and Royal
Centre, Harrogate, Keswick, Cambridge, Torquay, Skegness and Mansfield.
The Riverside Drama Company and
the Duchess deliver a standard second to none of these places, but that
is just my own humble opinion, which also takes into account value for
money.
Judging from the comments around
me in the place, the packed house felt pretty much the same, and we are
going to need a bigger theatre in town. The builders have done a
marvelous job on the old place; although perhaps a dress circle and
restaurant should be added next time? Don't take my word for it;
get down there and see for yourself.
