THE Bramcote-based Riverside Drama Company is returning to the stage with an acidic look at the world of amateur dramatics.
They will be at St John's Church Hall in Long Eaton this weekend to perform a comedy with the exhausting title Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society's Murder Mystery.
One of a series of Farndale comedies written by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr, this offering brings together a cast of just five performers who will be wringing out the laughs as the Guild's ladies produce a seamless evening of disaster when they present their cunning whodunnit Murder at Checkmate Manor.
Every drama group knows the horrors of what can go wrong on the night and the ladies of the townswomen's guild are no exception, as scenery collapses, cues are missed and lines forgotten as their excruciating production unfolds.
Liz Turner, Pat Clarke, John Lomas, Janet Bradbery and Liz O'Hara, make up a small yet accomplished cast of Riverside members who will be caught up in the mayhem.
Pat Tuffin directs proceedings and even he doesn't know what to expect as the Farndale ladies throw caution to the wind in a play that has its share of surprises.
Led by their indomitable chairman Mrs Reece, the guild's stars will be hoping to maintain the suspense right to the end, much to the audience's delight.
Just to make the price of admission extra specially worth it, they have even arranged not only a fashion show for the discerning audience, but a who-dunnit quiz for all to enjoy while helping the intrepid Inspector O'Reilly bring the murderer to book.
The play Will be staged from May 13 to May 15 at 7.30pm each night.
