Anyone who has a
Ragdoll will know all there is to know, or nearly, but I have written
this page to give an insight to the Ragdoll for anybody who might be
thinking of having a Ragdoll as part of their family.
The Ragdoll cat
originated from California is the United States in the 1960's by a lady
called Ann Baker. There has been conflicting stories as to how these
cats were bred. But one thing is sure we are very lucky to have these
beautiful cats come into our lives.
They were introduced
to England in 1981 by two ladies who had seen the breed in American
magazines. Four Blossom Time Cats were imported into England to start a
breeding programme in this country.
The characteristics
of a Ragdoll are quite unique, they are renowned for their laid back
temperament, their blue eyes and they are such sociable animals. They
can grow to become quite a large cat and as they mature they become more
beautiful.
Their coat is of
semi-long hair, its texture is silky and dense. The fur is quite low
maintenance, not like a persian's coat. A Ragdoll's coat will not matt
and just needs a regular brush.
The Ragdoll cat is an
indoor cat and therefore this should be taken into account if you are
thinking of having one of these cats. They live quite happily indoors
but if you have got the facilities you can give them a safe outside run.
A Ragdoll kitten should not be left on their own for long periods of
time, as they do not cope well with this, therefore I will not sell
Ragdoll kittens to people that are out of the house all day.
