To say that Charmed merchandise is a bit thin on the ground at the moment is something of an understatement, as Charmed merchandise is actually pretty much non-existent at the moment. In fact, apart from a handful of 10"x8" photos and a couple of relatively pricey plaques, there is virtually nothing else to spend your money on apart from this 16-month calendar. Even so, is it any good? First impressions are slightly more favourable than this year's Buffy calendar, with a more sturdy feeling product, although there is again only a single hole to hold the thing up. As with most 16 month calendars, September to December are featured on a single page, alongside a whole page pic of Alyssa Milano (Phoebe), Holly Marie Combs (Piper) and Shannen Doherty (Prue). After that, its a whole page to a month, again with a full page shot - three each of Alyssa, Holly and Shannen, two of all three and a solitary one of T.W. King (Trudeau) and Dorian Gregory (Morris). For anyone who's seen any of the photos currently available, the pictures used won't hold too many surprises. There's also a slight lack of variety in the shots used - Alyssa seems to be wearing the same two outfits in most of her appearances. Accompanying each month is a single line of explanatory text, although these do tend to lean towards the naff - September's reads: "Prue, Piper, and Phoebe learn more about their unique powers, slowly gaining confidence in each other and building the strength they need to protect each other." Aaaargh! Fortunately these are pretty unreadable from a distance and so prove little distraction, and there's also a welcome lack of garish colouring around the pictures, with only subtle halo effect around the photos. A host of international dates are highlighted, including all the UK ones so there's no need to start celebrating Thanksgiving just yet! It's nothing exceptional, but there are plenty of worse spin-offs around for other series. Charmed doesn't have too much else to offer its fans at the moment, so it's definitely worth a look, although male fans will probably find it of more interest than female ones. BACK TO THE TOP |
