DATE WITH DEATH

HOLLYWOOD REPORTER 100TH EPISODE SPECIAL

GARDEN OF EVIL

CHARMED AGAIN

SPIRIT OF THE WOLF

Last time out, I criticised The Legacy of Merlin for falling into that old Charmed trap of having one of the girls fall for the first guy they see.  Well, here we go again..

Well, almost.  This time around, Prue doesn't fall head over heels in lust with the subject of her latest photographic assignment.  Instead, she prefers his political rival, but before we get too carried away, Phoebe has the hots for P3's new bartender.

As has been the case with several of the recent Charmed novels, Prue's latest job provides our starting point, with the would-be politician also a collector of ancient artifacts.  And guess who helps release the spirit trapped within one of them?  Yep, step forward Prue Halliwell...

Still searching for a more active power, Phoebe wishes that she can help save more innocents.  Helped by the unleashed demon, this wish comes true, but not in the way she planned.

One of the most disappointing things about Charmed - particularly the novels - is that by targetting younger viewers it often fails to take full advantage of a potentially good idea.

Okay, so the idea of an overload of power isn't startling original - in the Buffyverse both Buffy and Cordy have suffered from it, but as usual, so much more could have been done with it here.

So, it's pretty much as you'd expect - an okay, lightweight read, but something that you'll quickly forget about. BACK TO THE TOP
