CHARMED MORE OF A TEMPTATION YET AGAIN

08.02.02 - NBC held on tightly to the title of No. 1 on Thursday night in the overnight metered market ratings, snagging a 16.3/25 share for the night, followed by CBS' 11.5/18.  ABC was third with a 5.8/9, followed by wrestling on UPN, 5.3/8.  The WB pulled ahead to come in fifth, 3.3/5, while Fox came in last for the night with a 3.1/5.

CHARMED NICKS FIFTH PLACE

25.01.02 - Despite yet another disappointing lead-in audience, Charmed managed to hold onto fifth place in yesterday's overnight metered market ratings.

CBS won the 9pm hour, with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation pulling a 13.8 rating/20 share.  NBC was second with an average of 8.8/13 for the hour, thanks to Will & Grace (9.5/14) and Just Shoot Me (8.0/12).

ABC took third, with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, 6.6/10, ahead of UPN, whose WWF Smackdown! averaged a 5.7/8 from 8-10pm.

With the Thursday repeats of Angel pulled because of low ratings, The WB aired a rerun of Wednesday's Glory Days to a disappointing 2.0/3 at 8pm.  Charmed picked things up at 9pm, with a 4.3/6, just ahead of Fox's Temptation Island 2, 4.2/6.  Back to the top

CHARMED MORE OF A TEMPTATION

19.01.02 - Charmed's first new episode of the year just edged out Temptation Island 2 for fifth place in Thursday's overnight metered market ratings.

CBS won the hour, thanks to CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and a 14.6 rating/21 share (last week: Survivor: Africa, 14.9/21 from 8-10pm).

NBC was second, starting with Will & Grace at 9pm, 12.4/18 (13.0/18), followed by Just Shoot Me at 9.30pm, 10.5/15 (11.7/16).

The decline of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is shown by the fact that its 6.0 rating/8 share (Figure Skating, 6.4/9) is over 50% down from the same week last year.

UPN was fourth with WWF Smackdown pulling a 5.0 rating/7 share, the same figures as last week.

Following a repeat of Angel, 2.4/3, Charmed scraped into fifth place with a 4.1/6 (3.0/4), ahead of Fox's Temptation Island 2, 3.4/5.  Back to the top

NEW CHARMED, OLD POSITION

14.12.01 - Muse to My Ears the first new Charmed episode for nearly a month finished in sixth place for the 9pm hour.

THE WB LAST YET AGAIN

17.11.01 - The 8pm hour is still letting down The WB's Thursday night line-up, although Charmed itself was 17% down from last year (although this was still up 37% from Popstars 2).

Although NBC won the night, CBS won the 9pm hour thanks to CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and a 16.6 rating/24 share (last week, 15.6/23).

NBC had the top two programmes for the night in ER and Friends, but had to be content with fifth place for Will & Grace, 11.8/17 (last week: 13.4/19) and seventh for Just Shoot Me, 10.2/14 (11.1/10).

Third place for the night ABC was well behind both the leading two networks for the hour, but its Victoria's Secret Fashion Show special still managed a 9.0/12 (last week: Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, 7.3/10) to comfortably take third place.

UPN was fourth for the hour, with WWF Smackdown! averaging a 4.5/6 (4.7/7) from 8-10pm.  Charmed was fifth, with a 4.4 rating/6 share (4.5/6), just ahead of Fox's Temptation Island 2, 4.2/6 (5.4/8).  Back to the top

THE WB'S THURSDAY STUMBLES INTO SWEEPS

10.11.01 - The WB's Thursday night line-up continues to struggle with its lineup of Popstars 2 and Charmed finishing bottom of the pile in Thursday's overnight metered market ratings.

With the World Series over, CBS won the timeslot with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and a 15.0 rating/22 share, making it the 3rd most popular show of the night behind NBC's ER and Friends.

NBC was a strong second for the hour, thanks to Will & Grace (12.5/19) and Just Shoot Me (10.06/16), followed by ABC with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? (7.4/11).

UPN's WWF Smackdown! averaged a 4.7/7 from 8-10pm, while the downturn in ratings for reality shows meant that Fox's Temptation Island could only pull a 4.5/7.

On The WB, Popstars 2 got the night off to a bad start with a 3.0 rating/5 share on its way to last place for the night.  At 9pm Charmed improved things, but only to a 4.3/6.  Back to the top

WB THURSDAY NIGHT CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE

02.11.01 - The WB's Thursday night line-up struggled once again in last night's overnight metered market ratings.

NBC won the night, with an average 16.2 rating/23 share, closely followed by Fox, whose coverage of the World Series pulled a 14.5/21.

Fox's coverage of game 5 between the Yankees and Diamondbacks averaged a 14.5/21 during primetime, and a whopping 16.8/26 from 8.30pm to 12.45am.

CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation improved on its lead-in, Survivor, with a 14.5 rating/19 share.  ABC opened with a two-hour special, United We Stand, from 8-10pm, and finished in fourth place with a 4.8/7.

UPN's WWF Smackdown! averaged a 4.5/6 from 8-10pm, finishing 20% ahead of The WB's offerings.  The 8pm hour continues to perform badly with Popstars 2 (2.9/4) and Reba (2.7/4), leading into Charmed, which pulled a 4.2/6.  Back to the top

RATINGS DOWN, BUT THE SHARE REMAINS THE SAME

28.10.01 - Charmed's ratings were down slightly last Thursday, but the show was again watched by the same percentage of the audience.

CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation again won the hour, with a 15.7 rating/23 share, well ahead of the NBC duo of Will & Grace (10.8/16) and Just Shoot Me (9.3/14).

ABC was third with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and a 7.7 rating/11 share, followed by UPN with WWF Smackdown! and Charmed: Size Matters (4.3/6).  Fox, which is still to debut its permanent Thursday night line-up aired the movie Varsity Blues to an average of just 3.4/5.  Back to the top

CHARMED RATINGS HOLD STEADY

19.10.01 - Charmed's ratings held steady in last night's overnight metered market figures.

CHARMED IN THE BASEMENT

12.10.01 - Despite being The WB's second most popular show, Charmed often finds itself placing sixth out of six in its timeslot, and that was the case last night.

In a night disrupted by the Presidential address, The WB averaged a 3.7 rating/5 share from 8-10pm, well down from last week's 5.6/8 when it aired the two-hour season four premiere.

NBC won the 9-10pm slot, with Friends and Will and Grace pulling a 14.5 rating/20 share from 9-9.30pm, followed by a 14.8/21 for Will and Grace and Just Shoot Me from 9.30-10pm.

CBS was close behind, with a 14.5/20 for Survivor: Africa from 9-9.30pm, followed by a 14.8/20 for Survivor: Africa and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation from 9.30-10pm.

ABC aired the scheduled Who Wants To Be A Millionaire from 9-10pm, getting an 8.1 rating/13 share (last week: 7.5/11), while Fox aired the MLB Play-offs, averaging a 6.9/11 until 12.15am.

UPN narrowly edged out The WB for the 9pm hour, with WWF Smackdown! pulling it 5.0/7 (4.9/7) for the hour, and an average 4.7/7 (4.7/7) overall.

The WB got off to a poor start with the first two episodes of its new reality dating show Eliminate Deluxe pulling in just 2.3/3 and 2.8/4 from 8pm.  At 9pm, Charmed scored a 4.9 rating/7 share, but couldn't help the network out of the basement for the night as a whole.  Back to the top

CHARMED WORKS A SPELL FOR THE WB

07.10.01 - Following on from the story below, here's a look at the overnight metered market ratings for Thursday night's season 4 premiere.

The WB was fourth for the night, behind the big three of NBC, CBS and ABC, but ahead of UPN and Fox.

NBC kicked off the night with Friends, and a 2.1/4 rating/32 share (last week:21.7/33).  At 8.30pm, Inside Schwartz lost a lot of its lead-in, but still managed a 13.2/19 (14.8/22).  Things improved at 9pm with Will and Grace, 13.5/19 (14.6/21), followed by Scrubs at 9.30pm, 11.2/16 (Just Shoot Me, 13.1/19).

CBS opened with Survivor: Countdown to Africa and a pretty lacklustre 6.7 rating/10 share (last week, CSI, 9.5/14).  CSI pulled things round at 9pm, with a 13.9 rating/20 share (last week: 15.1/22).

WB PRESS RELEASE FOR CHARMED AGAIN

07.10.01 - Rose McGowan helps bring the teens back to Charmed as magical premiere scores #1 finish for the night in female teens.

Charmed is #2 in women 12-34 & tops ABC, CBS & Fox in persons 12-34 & defeats ABC & Fox in adults 18-34, women 18-34; adults 18-49 & women 18-49.

Despite stiffer competition than during its 2000 debut, Charmed scores year-to-year gains for Thursday night in key demos.

Burbank, CA (October 5, 20001) - Despite going up against a giant episode of Friends and stiffer competition than last season, when it was up against Presidential Debates and baseball playoffs, the two-hour season premiere of Charmed scored for The WB, both against its competition and in year-to-year comparisons.

With the addition of Rose McGowan (Scream) to round out the bewitching trio of sisters along with Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs, Charmed raced out of the starting gate to a #1 finish on television in female teens (6.9/23), topping even the vaunted NBC Thursday night line-up.  The WB also finished ahead of ABC, CBS and Fox in total teens (4.1/13), being edged out by only two-tenths of a ratings point by NBC.

Charmed, which attracted 6 million total viewers, also defeated ABC, CBS and Fox in The WB's target demographic of persons 12-34 (3.3/9) and finished #2 among all networks in women 12-34 (4.5/12).  The show defeated ABC and Fox in adults 18-34 (3.0/8), women 18-34 (3.7/9), adults 18-49 (2.6/7), and women 18-49 (3.4/8).  The show built during the night, scoring its greatest ratings in the 9pm hour, where it will air throughout this season, including a 3.7/10 in persons 12-34, a 5.0/13 in women 12-34, a 3.4/9 in adults 18-34, a 4.1/10 in women 18-34, a 4.4/14 in teens and a 7.3/24 in female teens.

Last year Charmed benefited by going up against political debates and baseball, yet it still scored year-to-year gains for The WB over last year's Thursday night premiere in persons 12-34 (3.3/9), women 12-34 (4.5/12), teens (4.1/13) and female teens (6.9/23).  If you go back to its 1999-2000 premiere, when the series launched against regular competition, Charmed was up in virtually every demo, including all 12-34 demos, adults 18-34, all 18-49 demos and female teens.
