JULIAN McMAHON: CHARMED AND DANGEROUS
22 JUL 03. SOURCE: E! ONLINE

CHARMED fans who've been breathlessly awaiting Julian McMahon's return to the small screen are in luck - his new drama, NIP/TUCK, begins its run on F/X on Tuesday, and it's tighter than a Brazilian butt-lift (says E! ONLINE's Kristin). Produced by Ryan Murphy (POPULAR), McMahon promises this show is "off the wall. If you like Ryan Murphy's work, you'll absolutely adore this."

"And adore it I did," Kristin continues, "despite the stomach-churning surgery footage and gratuitous sex romps (where you could almost see the invisible bubble above their heads saying, 'Because we can!')."

"The operation stuff doesn't hold back," McMahon admits, "but it's shot so well and set to great music, so it creates a very imbalanced feel. You're like, 'Jesus, I shouldn't be looking at this,' and at the same time, you go, 'I'm actually having a good time.'" He says he was "200 percent squeamish" and spent hours in preparation "TiVo-ing any plastic surgery thing that existed on the planet."

One more victory for almighty TiVo.

And now, given the great prognosis for NIP/TUCK, does Julian miss playing Cole on CHARMED at all? "I loved playing Cole," he says. "I used the character to get where I am now. For many reasons, I cherish my time there, but I don't miss it...He takes his place where he was, and I'll leave it at that." BACK TO THE TOP

CHARMED ANGEL COPES WITH WITCHY WIFE
ADDED: 12.12.02. SOURCE: TV GUIDE

Note: Since this interview took place during season five, UK viewers in particular should be wary of spoilers.

Nothing against Charmed starlet Holly Marie Combs, but her Piper Halliwell has been less than charming lately. In fact, if we weren't so polite, we'd call this character something that only rhymes with witch. Is she still sad about Prue's demise? Or stressed out by the demons trying to kill her other sisters in sorcery week after week? Here, TV Guide Online asks Brian Krause - who plays Piper's saintly hubby, Leo - why his TV wife is such a damn shrew.

"Well, she's having a baby," he grins. Yeah, but this Wiccan witch was sportin' a snappish, abrasive 'tude well before she got preggers. "Before that?" Krause nervously replies. "I don't know. Boy, I don't know!"

We won't speak for the diplomatic Krause, but Leo sure seems whipped by his whiny bride. "Leo's the consummate nice guy," he says. "He's a pacifist, through and through, as a guardian angel. Not to say he can't get tough here and there, but he definitely puts up with somebody who's in a bad mood. He's an understanding guy."

The 33-year-old California native clearly wishes he weren't so sunny all the time. "Does Leo have a dark side?" he muses. "I don't think so. I'd love to have Leo taken over by evil for an episode! Or be more of a tough guy and lose his temper on the demons. But I like being the one on the show that gives the good, moral message out there to the audience."

Any hey, at least Leo has the benefit of great special effects. The heavenly husband's always "orbing" - that's vanishing and reappearing places Bewitched-style - wherever he goes. "It's funny," Krause says. "When I walk in through the door, people are like, 'Huh? You walked in the room!'" BACK TO THE TOP

TV TALKER'S CHARMED LIFE
ADDED: 02.05.02. SOURCE: TV GUIDE ONLINE

Since Charmed debuted in 1998, Dorian Gregory has played San Francisco copper Darryl Morris, a former non-believer who befriended the show's trio of witches. "I protect them," he tells TV Guide Online, "so the public doesn't find out their secret and keep them from doing good."

Natch, he occasionally gets caught in the crossfire between the sexy Wiccans and their infernal foes. "Have I ever gotten zapped?" he laughs. "There was one episode where a demon was trying to take my soul. So that's pretty magical and frightening." His shade-of-grey response to that script was very Hollywood. "You can't take my soul," he recalls telling Charmed producers. "Now, you can lease it or rent it - but ya can't take it!"

He's faced worse torments since joining The Other Half's panel of daytime talkers: Dick Clark, Mario Lopez and Danny Bonaduce. Their previous co-host - plastic surgeon Dr. Jan Adams - quit to host The Discovery Channel's Skin Deep and write books. Hence, newbie Gregory is going through some hazing.

"They waxed my chest," the 31-year-old says, "and they had me wearing a skirt, stockings and high heels. It's just to wlak in a woman's shoes - for us to really understand how much work goes into being a woman. It's amazing to see what they have to deal with!"

Gregory didn't mind replacing Dr. Jan as the show's resident African-American male; he's aware of Half's obvious effort to appeal to varied viewer demographics. It doesn't hurt that he's a young looker, either! "I don't know if the primary objective was sexiness," he blushes. "The main drive for the show is to bring in four totally different perspectives. It's a wonderful thing when they give diverse examples of what life's all about." BACK TO THE TOP

McMAHON CHARMED BY CHARMED

27.11.2001 - Julian McMahon told Sci-Fi Wire that he's pleased so far with season four of Charmed, the first without Shannen Doherty.

"The season's been good fun, particularly the last three or four episodes after we established Rose's character," he said in an interview.  "We've really gotten to mix it up with my character and play with things a lot.  The girls don't know if they trust him.  I've always liked the way the show has been written.  It's always been fun and ridiculous, but then it's also serious at some points and had emotional content.  It gives you a variety of things to do as an actor.  It's really been a joy for me."  As for anyone who fears that Cole is getting soft and mushy, McMahon said: "He gets bad."

McMahon, an Australian whose credits include a regular role as John Grant on Profiler, is currently dating Doherty and co-stars with her in the USA Network TVM Another Day.  The film, set to air on 4 December, stars Doherty as a young woman given the opportunity to relive the two days before the death of her husband, played by Max Martini (Harsh Realm and Level 9).  McMahon plays a close friend of Doherty's character.  BACK TO THE TOP

RETURN TO CABIN BY THE LAKE

16.06.2001 - Brian Krause has just finished filming Return to Cabin By The Lake with Judd Nelson.  The sequel to Cabin by the Lake, Brian stars as the overbearing director of a movie about the life story of the notorious murderer of young women, Stanley Caldwell, as played by Judd Nelson.  "It was a lot of fun playing this nasty director while working with a director as fantastic as Po-Chih Leong," remarked Brian.  BACK TO THE TOP

BRIAN KRAUSE'S CHARMED LIFE

04.01.2001 - It's not easy being Brian Krause.  In 1991, he was seen frolicking in Fiji with a very naked Milla Jovovich in Return to the Blue Lagoon.  A few years later, he played the fiancé of cleavage queen Pamela Anderson in Naked Souls, a film in which the V.I.P., star bared almost as much as she did during her infamous sex tape with former husband Tommy Lee.  These days, he stars as Leo, the resident guardian angel to Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs in the aptly titled WB series, Charmed.

"I have a pretty troublesome life," Krause jokingly told TV Guide Online.  "It's rough work."

Although he appeared in the aforementioned "skin flicks", Krause admits there was a time when he was ill-at-ease with the idea of taking it all off for the camera.  "In high school, I played water polo my freshman year, but didn't continue with it because I wasn't comfortable with the whole Speedo thing," says the Southern California native.  "I was pretty shy about it and didn't want to be naked in front of the whole school.  Then when I got the part in Blue Lagoon, they were like, 'Okay, get naked, let's go!'  I had to get over that uneasiness pretty quick.  By the end of the movie, I was totally used to it and sat around with my legs spread, not even realising what I was doing."

Naturally, all of this begs the question: How does Krause's wife, Beth, feel about her husband's on-screen love life, and in particular, his character's relationship with Holly Marie Combs' Piper?  "When I met my wife, I explained to her that this is what I do, and that it's going to be like this forever," he says.  "It can be tough here and there, but she's okay with it.

"Holly is a wonderful person and we both have separate lives away from the show," Krause adds.  "Besides, my wife knows her, so it's okay."

Krause's friends, however, are a different story.  "They're constantly asking 'Which girl is the hottest?' and 'When can I came to the set?'" he laughs.  "They're out of control."
