THE PLOT

An uncertain Brendan Rowe is talking to a priest, Father Austin, telling him that his family has generations of evil in its blood.  His brothers show up.

Outside the church, the Halliwell sisters are delivering food from Quake.  Phoebe is giving Piper some grief about her refusal to date Josh when she has a premonition of Brendan being attacked by a warlock.

Inside the church, this happens, only for Prue to use her powers against one of the warlocks.

Later, the pair discuss Brendan - he must be initiated as a warlock by tomorrow when he's due to be ordained as a priest.

Prue visits Father Austin, who tells her that Brendan always said that "they" would come.  Meanwhile, Phoebe is worried that Piper is turning into a nun with her avoidance of Josh, who shows up at Quake and asks her to the gym.  Phoebe talks her into going.

Prue visits Brendan, who's helping a little girl at a riding school.  He tells her that he won't tell about her being a witch, but that he won't talk about what happened.

Piper and Josh go climbing.  She falls off but he catches her, after which she freezes everything to call Phoebe, who's flooding the kitchen at Quake.  Once she's unfrozen everything, Piper cries off and returns to the restaurant, where she tells Phoebe she's trying to stop falling for the wrong guys.  Phoebe apologises for pushing her into it.

Prue arrives at the church to see Father Austin lying on the ground, with Brendan in warlock mode standing over him.  He runs off, but she uses her powers to stop him.  He tells her that he didn't attack the priest, but it was his anger that turned him into a warlock.

Morris and Trudeau investigate the attempted murder.  The case has a special meaning for Andy because Father Austin is his priest.

Brendan explains that Greg and Paul are his half-brothers and that they want him to complete the triangle of Evil Charmed Ones.  He wanted to make amends and to lose his power by becoming a priest.  He will have to kill them and then the girls must kill him.

Greg and Paul have kidnapped a girl and tied her up ready for Brendan to kill.  Greg throws him a knife, and Brendan aplogises that he has to kill Paul, but his evil side appears to take over and the sisters arrive to find him standing over the girl, knife in hand.  Prue uses her powers to untie the victim, but then they are fended off.

Morris and Trudeau arrive and she tells Andy that two guys kidnapped her, but neither was Brendan, although she heard the name, along with Prue's.  There was an occult symbol on her chest, and Andy determines to get to the bottom of this.

Brendan is staying at the Manor.  He's not convinced that he would have stopped in time, but Prue is.  She defends him to Piper and Phoebe, claiming he is the innocent they are charged to protect.  Her sisters aren't convinced.

Andy shows up and demands to know where Brendan is.  He's only interested in who tried to kill Father Austin.  Prue refuses to say anything, and Piper claims they're not hiding any criminals.

Greg and Paul cast a spell, and the sleeping Brendan awakes with a start.  Paul is convinced that Brendan's mother's blood is too strong, but he shows up anyway.  Greg tells him that they want proof he's taken a life, and that he must sacrifice a witch - Prue.

Prue goes into see Brendan alone, and he threatens her with the knife that Greg gave him.  She used her power against him and Piper and Phoebe enter to see him turning into a warlock.  Prue tries to reason with his good side, and he manages to revert back to normal.

As they prepare to leave, Greg and Paul emerge.  Piper freezes the church and Phoebe throws the knife.  Then Prue tries her powers, but the pair seem to be too strong.  Paul appeals to Brendan and then Greg throws the knife at Brendan, but he's pulled Paul into the way.  Paul then pulls the knife out of his chest and throws it at Greg.  Being warlocks the pair's bodies vanish when they die.

After the girls have watched Brendan's ordination, Andy shows up at Quake, apologising to Prue.  Father Austin told him that his attackers were Brendan's brothers and she replies that he'll be unlikely to find them.  Andy doesn't seem surprised.

Andrea E Taylor who plays the girl victim played the salesgirl in the Buffy episode The Prom.

THE POWER OF THREE

Prue uses her power against the warlocks who are attacking Brendan.  Later when Brendan's running off, she somersaults him over to stop him.  She also unties Greg's victim and throws Brendan when he threatens her with a knife.  Her attempt to use her powers against Greg and Paul is less than successful.

Piper freezes the scene after Josh catches her when they're climbing and tries to freeze the warlocks in the church.

Phoebe has a premonition of Brendan being attacked by a warlock.

COMMENTS

Many of the better episodes don't involve the Book of Shadows, and When Bad Warlocks Go Good is no exception.

Prue gets the main plot here as she tries to prevent Brendan completing the triangle of Evil Charmed Ones.  If this is what happens when she trusts her instincts then Piper and Phoebe should perhaps allow her to follow them a bit more in future.

It's nice to see a minor character returning, and this allows Piper some good moments in the secondary storyline, although Phoebe is pretty much reduced to a few comments here and there and a comedy scene where she floods the kitchen at Quake.

Good also to see Andy's suspicions about Prue mounting, although he'd have to be San Francisco's answer to Chief Wiggum not to have any after this long.
