Carnivale was a great break from the non-stop fighting in Erin, though many felt we should have been finishing off the fight in Erin rather than playing games on the Isle de Pommes. To be honest simply being out of the rain for a while was a great break in itself so although it may have seemed wrong it probably did us good.
Mercenaries were not permitted to camp at the Carnivale without the sponsorship of a nation. The Lion Azure were considered Algaia for the time due to the word of the Eored.
The Algaia had put together a wonderful space for the games with an arena in the centre of the glade used by the visiting nations. The games were many and varied from subtlety to pure power. For once the Vipers got actively involved instead of treating them as an annoyance as they have in many previous years.
On the Saturday night, the night of the dead, everyone was prohibited from carrying weapons with no other use - this led to a mass searching through toolboxes and similar to find equipment that could be used as a weapon in a pinch.
The diplomatic spat in the Forest of Erin had led to the Wolves and the Hei Ravni (especially) being treated with suspicion by Lord Hart and placed as far as possible from the Algaia camp. He seems to have decided that the Hei Ravni are not good enough for him, possibly due to them not having full faction status agreed by the faction council. Throughout the event there were repeated slights to the Hei Ravni and it looked like the Jhereg were the only members of the Treaty of Thrones he was willing to take seriously.
Constructs were yet again a problem. The Lions did a raid on the Saturday evening and managed to capture a thaumaturgist, it remains to be seen if they can protect him from the beast that killed the last one.
The ancestor spirits the Algaia had warned us about were mercifully quiet.
The Fomori had followed us once more and were getting more creative and visible in their attempts to annoy everyone, even going as far as going into the arena and laying down a challenge. This is no longer a problem isolated to the lands of Erin so there must be a deeper problem to be dealt with.
The Draken Festival of Lanterns was held on the night of the dead and was a very special ceremony to remember the fallen of the previous year. It became especially memorable when Rurik the Glorious, the founder of the Narod nation, showed up in person to help guide them.
The Fir Cruthen had a bad moment when they accidentally stabbed the sacred grove while attempting to placate some upset spirits.
Boris, the Hei Ravni head of security, had an interesting time going from ambassador to diplomatic incident to convicted criminal to family of the Ael in the space of a day.
Flossie met a tragic end providing safe meat to everyone in the camp.
During the awards ceremony the Vipers gave the 20 man competition to the Jhereg for beating them in the combat despite them being the points winners. Lord Hart managed to upset many present by giving the gun running prize to the Jhereg despite the Hei Ravni having been the clear winners.
After the fun and games of Carnivale it's time to go back refreshed to the serious business of the fighting in Erin.
