The Fayre of the Nations was held on the Isle de Pommes off the coast of Estragales. The Algaians had prepared a wonderfully tree-lined clearing for everyone to relax in and try to put aside the stresses from so much continuous war. You could tell we were in the South as it was exceptionally warm, so hot that many warriors were forced to put their armour aside. Competitions ran throughout with mercs participating in most of them but with no noticeable successes..
The mercenary camp was busier than it had been for a while and there were representatives from the Lion Azure, Draken (with Grendel's children), Gnolls, Black Company, Merchant Militia, Helcaraxe, Advena, Acoatl, Erin Navy. Work was begun on agreeing a mercenary charter that mercenary companies would be expected to follow.
Early on the first evening the vampires were running a ritual which was disrupted by some form of wedge. Rumour had it that Suraklin, the Phoenix Guard liche, was also trying to use the ritual for his own aims. Afterwards there were many undead attacks, including ghouls, they just seemed to pop up from nowhere. Gradually the attacks faded out through the evening.
A priestess & trader, both wearing white, were wandering around the camp that night. The ‘priestess’ was offering the blessings of the goddess while the ‘trader’ was making deals with people.
That night Bron of
the Helcaraxe died while working as a bodyguard in the Fir Cruthen camp.
Early the following morning people started falling over, dying. Seems they'd caught
weakling's curse, a type of disease, from the ‘priestess’ & ‘trader’.
Most of the company's available healing was used on the victims. A large multi-faction collaboration, including a merc coven, worked throughout the day on designing and starting to produce
a cure.
Somewhere around midday there was a big gathering in the middle of the field involving Lady Scythe. Somehow Suraklin killed Lady Scythe and took her power making him the new principality of corporeal magic. The vampires were not happy about this and took a bit of a beating from him.
There were attacks by 'twiglets' throughout the day, these strange creatures appear to be part of the land, they certainly grow from it. They had the disconcerting habit of appearing in the middle of a group of people at the most inopportune time and attacking them. Although they caused a lot of chaos they were usually fairly easy to defeat, though the ones that appeared in the middle of combat tournaments weren't around long enough to be more than a distraction.
One of the strangest moments was when a whirlwind ran across field. Everything ground to a halt waiting to see what was going to happen, and who had summoned it, but it just left on its own.
Incarnations of the four elements and their 'bodyguard' were around all day. The 'bodyguard' caused a lot of trouble by attacking people wearing metal armour and smashing the armour into the ground when possible. Later that night they helped when a ritual was used to allow a group of people to travel through a portal.
Ghost fell while foraging with the Draken. She was killed by bandits, but the rest of the party made it back with her body. Doctor Isobel of the Black Company was later attacked by what seemed to be the same brown-clad bandits while in the trader area.
The Blood Queen retrieved her missing artifact (her crown?) that she had been attempting to get at Heart of Darkness by some serious subterfuge involving a cloned person. The evil clone spent a lot of time harassing the Gnolls, and attacking them when possible, whenever he could. There was a rather special moment involving a Gnoll running at full tilt and passing his beer on without breaking stride and without spilling the beer.
Broken Paw, an exceptionally skittish beast-person with a damaged paw, was brought to us by the Merchant Militia. We fixed her paw later that night with some surgery involving a mace and some healing miracles.
Lord Wall of the Wolves held a party that night, Wall's Ball, to find himself a bride - apparently he'd been somewhat lax in the matter of ensuring he had descendants. Ylva of the Advena was selected by Lord Wall as his bride to be.
The Jhereg held a moving memorial to all of those that had fallen during the war against the Greenskins, regardless of nation or affiliation.
Gun'youkan T'Sulako of the Draken was shot in the dark that night. The Gnolls held a ritual to find the assassin.
Smallclaw, one of the most popular of the Vipers, was attacked in the middle of the team tournament. The assassin used the chaos of the combat to kill him but was captured while trying to escape. A full scale search then ensued as people from many factions attempted to find who had hired the assassin. The investigation continues.
Somewhere during this chaos the Erin Navy was declared outlaw by the Fir Cruthen. Some were killed in the traders area while the rest escaped to their ship. Unfortunately the attackers also killed Piper Target of the Merchant Militia in the confusion.
Amazingly we do have photos this time as well as another attempt at a camp map.
